View Full Version : NEW MUSIC TUESDAY (5/13) Whatcha gettin?

05-13-2008, 07:48 AM

I'm most excited about the Presets record.

Word on the street is the Filter record is garbage, I haven't heard it, prolly won't anytime soon either, although I'm seeing them live this Saturday. Also on the street, the Delays record is great, I imported that for later this week. Question: when in the hell did Dokken get back together? Good lord. Finally, anyone else think of the movie Vacation when you say the title of the new Frank Sinatra collection? (Think Cousin Eddie and "real" tomato ketchup)

Death Cab For Cutie - Narrow Stairs
Dokken - Lightning Strikes Again
Old 97's - Blame It On Gravity
Frank Sinatra - Nothing But the Best
Jason Mraz - We Sing, We Dance, We Steal things
T Bone Burnett - Tooth of Crime
The Cure - The Only One (single)
The Black Angels - Directions to See a Ghost
Local H - 12 Angry Months
The Delays - Everything's the Rush (import)
Ween - The Friends EP
Teitor - The Singer
The Pixies - Doolittle (SACD version)
Martina Topley-Bird - Blue God (import)
The Submarines - Honeysuckle Weeks
We Are Scientists - Brain Thrust Mastery
Safety Suit - Life Left to Go
Pendulum - In Silico
The Presets - Apocolypso
Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan - Sunday at Devil Dirt

Picking up The Presets - Apocolypso

I'll be waiting for Martina Topley-Bird - Blue God to be released domestically. Hopefully they don't screw up the domestic release like they did with Quixotic.

There was once a time when I would have cared about a Local H concept album.

In music news from a couple weeks ago, Portishead's Third debuted at number 7 on the Billboard chart. I was ecstatic when I found that out.

05-13-2008, 08:22 AM
Old 97s (I think I've seen them live more than any other band...)

05-13-2008, 08:28 AM

I'm stoked.

Goin after school.

its all streaming on their myspace. and yeah. it sucks.

Both the new Presets and DCFC are alright, nothing special.

I was really excited for the new Presets but got it on iTunes last week and so far (after about 5 listens) am not loving it. I like a few songs (esp. "My People") but the rest sounds like straight rehashed 80s without the edginess and crazy catchy hooks of the best Beams tracks. :(

Even though I've already "purchased" In Silico and found it to be less than stellar, I like it enough to warrant an actual purchase. Probably not today, but I'll grab it eventually.

t-bone burnett has a new cd out??

05-13-2008, 10:53 AM
I am ignoring all of you regarding Presets as I already ordered it unheard.

After checking out most of the new Martina Topley-Bird (sounds fantastic), I may in fact order it. The Danger Mouse production seems to be a perfect match for her.

05-13-2008, 10:56 AM
I didn't know the Black Angels had another album out. Will definitely be grabbing it.

If I still bought music I would be buying the new black angels disc. It's really good.

05-13-2008, 11:23 AM
Bought the new dcfc album last night but haven't really listened to it yet. How is the new We Are Scientists album?

05-13-2008, 11:43 AM
Might have to get the Martina Topley-Bird disc.

The Presets record is good, I suggest you get it, and I was seriously considering spending money to get Narrow Stairs but... After listening to the leak rip... It's not worth shelling cash out for.

05-13-2008, 11:50 AM
What cd cover is that to the right of narrow stairs?

No Worries - I really like that cover art, I'm sure the music is good as always with T Bone.

05-13-2008, 01:31 PM
Im probably getting the Pendulum cd today.

05-13-2008, 03:06 PM
I might buy the DCFC one. They're coming to town on my daughter's birthday, so maybe I can get her into them before then and take her to the show.

05-13-2008, 03:31 PM
Pendulum, DCFC, Presets...a lot of listening to do tonight.

05-13-2008, 04:58 PM
Autechre is releasing their new album (alternate Quaristice tracks) through Bleep.com starting 5/19 so that counts as this week.

05-13-2008, 05:01 PM
If anything, maaybe DCFC. I'm really just waiting for Dan le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip to hit shelves.
