[The Village Voice is] downright ebullient to announce the official details on this year's Siren Festival, which will, as always be free, all ages, and rain or shine. It'll take place on Saturday, July 18 at Coney Island and likely involve a crowd-surfing drummer. Without further adieu:

New York, NY (May 7, 2008) The Village Voice, the nation’s largest alternative weekly newspaper, is excited to announce the initial line-up for the 8th Annual Village Voice SIREN MUSIC FESTIVAL™ at Coney Island on Saturday, July 19, 2008 from 12:00 noon - 9:00 p.m. Scheduled performers include STEPHEN MALKMUS AND THE JICKS, BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE, THE HELIO SEQUENCE, BEACH HOUSE, TIMES NEW VIKING, JAGUAR LOVE, THE DODOS, ANNUALS, FILM SCHOOL, PARTS & LABOR, DRAGONS OF ZYNTH, THESE ARE POWERS, DJs and more to be announced.

This free, all day, all ages music festival will feature international, national and local bands and DJs performing on two outdoor stages in historic Coney Island. Now in its 8th year, the Village Voice SIREN MUSIC FESTIVAL™ has solidified its status as a leading New York City outdoor music festival, drawing over 100,000 music fans by showcasing indie rock veterans and emerging artists.

I am looking forward to this, and with two stages, I'll be able to miss the artists I don't care for. I haven't made it up for a Siren festival yet. Should be interesting.

you're better off picking a stage and sticking to it if you want to get close for anything.

Because Siren is a free show, all the shitty gutter punks around the Brooklyn area come to Coney Island for the festival. It smells like bad pot, awful body odor and hot dogs. It's a terrible blend.

I'll pick whatever stage Helio Sequence is playing at and hope that Dragons of Zynth get the other stage.

the fact that it'll take me 5 minutes to get there overrides all of those. Unless you're going...
