New Kids On The Block announce reunion

New Kids On The Block officially announced today (April 4) that they will reunite for the first time since the early 1990s.

Appearing on US morning news programme The Today Show, the hugely successful boy band confirmed reports that they will embark on a tour later this year.

The band said that their first performance will be on The Today Show on May 16. They have not yet announced the tour dates.

Surrounded by hordes of screaming women at their Today Show appearance at Rockefeller Plaza in New York, band member Donnie Wahlberg explained their decision to reveal the news today.

"We weren't going to announce it yet but People (Magazine) leaked it so we thought we should make the announcement official," he said.

The band also revealed that they began recording a new album in August.

The band's website now contains a current band photo and news announcements.

New Kids On The Block sold more than 70 million albums worldwide during their 10 years together from 1984 to 1994.

Original members include brothers Jordan and Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Danny Wood and Wahlberg, who has had a successful acting and producing career.

If these guys made a surprise appearance at Coachella, do you think they'd get bottled by an angry crowd, or would people accept the cheese factor and enjoy themselves?

ahhhhhh hey-sus-christo! You know they would! I'd even put money on it that they would not receive a warm welcome! It's sad to say as a 27 year old, and self defined "musically cultured" female, one of my first concerts I ever attended was indeed NKOTB, and yes I had the pillowcases, action figure and poster at the times to prove it (shudder) but If anything...It's a gimmick, half of who have attempted failed solo efforts (Jordan Knight, Donny Walberg-in acting, and Joe McEntyre spelling?) and maybe if they jump on a reunion they might find that their 15 minutes has turned to a ashen 45.....

but I digress...

Ex-NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK star JORDAN KNIGHT hopes gay members of future boy bands will be able to reveal their sexuality from the outset. Knight is pleased former 'N SYNC singer LANCE BASS recently announced he is a homosexual, but wishes Bass didn't have to suppress his sexuality during his boy band days. Knight tells the New York Daily News, "I think it's pretty cool. I'm looking forward to a boy band that comes out, and right off the box they say one of them is gay. I think that would be the best thing. "They'll get all the girls and all the gay guys, know what I mean? It'll be perfect!"
