View Full Version : Portishead

I'm not sure what to post. I hope Portishead is in the lineup this year.

I just discovered this new band Peter, Bjorn and John. They are pretty mellow and have a Beatlesque, 60s pub kinda sound. They would be so perfect on the Outdoor early on Sunday.

Portishead would be so great at dusk.

I would like to see Peter Bjorn and John at Coachella! They would probably play very early despite the buzz. Though who knows, by Coachella time they may be drawing more interest.

11-25-2006, 11:38 PM
i can dig it

11-26-2006, 12:07 AM
I could dig the shins too. I'm trying to get to 30 posts so I'm not a lurker anymore.

As long as Portishead isn't scheduled the same time as David Bowie or the Pink Floyd reunion (Waters, Gilmour, Mason, Wright), I'm all for them playing. Oh yeah, and put Tom Waits on the main stage at sunset one day and Air on the main stage at sunset another day.

11-27-2006, 11:52 AM
I don't think Tom Waits should perform onstage, but instead in a dirty, back-alley like location. Perhaps near the row of portapotties by the Sahara tent...between those and the tent selling stuff. He must be accompanied by one-eyed dwarves and other misfits, as well as be swilling whiskey from a bottle and doing lines off said dwarves. As a matter of fact, his band should be composed of various salty characters.

He should have a banana peel on his head.

Mmm...Portishead. They've gotta be strapped for cash by now, so I'm sure if they were offered a big enough pay check, they'd take a break from not recording their next album. I mean, "Glory Box" was whored to a Nike commercial, for crying out loud.

Portishead on the main stage at dusk, a la Massive Attack, would be perfect, especially if they also get that 70 minute timelot :D

Playing with this bow and arrow.

not that anyone cares, but this was a light-hearted jab at how incredibly unfunny billy crystal was during that Comic Relief thing.

He was neither funny nor fun.

Valarie wants Magnolia Electric Co. I want Portishead.

11-30-2006, 04:43 PM
Someone get Andrew Portishead for Christmas.

11-30-2006, 05:08 PM
maybe his secret santa will.

11-30-2006, 07:02 PM
Valarie is such a bummer on Radiohead and Portishead. Is there another 'head you hate? All 'heads?

11-30-2006, 07:17 PM
I don't care much for Radiohead either. I have a lot of good memories associated with Pablo Honey though and if they planned on playing any of the songs off PH I would check em out at Coachella. Unless REM is playing opposite.

11-30-2006, 09:03 PM
I changed the channel during Billy Crystal's set. He's just not funny.

I thought George Lopez and D.L. Hughley were pretty funny. Seemed like everyone had a problem with the "live" environment of the show.

11-30-2006, 09:29 PM
...what does that have to do with portishead?

12-04-2006, 01:18 AM

12-04-2006, 01:17 PM
When was the Comic Relief thing on? And why Billy Crystal is still on TV, I'll never know.

Hi Bryce, I'm Nikki.

12-05-2006, 10:56 PM
nice to meet you nikki!

12-06-2006, 12:37 PM
Nice to meet you too!

12-18-2006, 03:31 PM
I want Talking Heads.

and Port-o-Potties.

01-09-2007, 05:34 PM
I always thought Billy Crystal was funny at the Academy Awards, but I don't know what happened.

01-15-2007, 11:59 PM
I want Fujiya and Miyagi.
And the Talking Heads would rule my world

01-16-2007, 02:08 PM
I'll be honest, and say that I haven't heard like any Portishead. What are some good songs that I could listen to? let me know your fav's.

Every song they've produced is quality. I suggest you just go ahead and buy both of their albums ("Dummy" and the self titled album "Portishead"), you wont be disappointed.

But if you really want me to suggest just some tracks, some of my favorites are ( i got alot):

from "Dummy"
-Sour Times
-Wandering Star
-Glory Box

from "Portishead" (self titled album, and my personal favorite out of the two)
-All Mine
-Mourning Air
-Seven Months
-Only You
-Western Eyes

well, i just about named all the tracks on both of the ablums, so i highly recommend you just buy both.

PS. Where in Chicago? Naperville here :(

All That I Am

I'd say check out Glorybox, Roads, and only you.
oh yeah and Undenied.

01-17-2007, 07:57 PM
Don't forget Sour Times. That is probably their biggest song, relatively speaking.

01-17-2007, 08:24 PM
Just get Roseland NYC, which is their only live album. Even better if you get the DVD. Amazing. Simply Amazing. Oh, and bmack86, I hate to disappoint you, but Fujiya and Miyagi are playing in Scotland on the 28th and 29th. So while it's possible they could play on Friday then fly to Scotland, it doesn't seem likely.

01-17-2007, 11:54 PM
does anyone have by any chance the ALL MINE instrumental by P.?

01-18-2007, 07:36 PM
Talking heads would be sick!!! But hell i'd even settle for David Byrne solo.
He puts on a great show, and throws in a couple TalkingHead songs for the faithful. Saw him in seattle @ the showbox. He introd a song by mentioning a friend from Waco TX had helpd him write it. I drunkinly yelled "NEVER FORGET WACO!!!" and Byrne laughed into the mike. I can die now!

Talking Heads > Portishead

01-19-2007, 10:35 AM
Thank you Valarie.
And, I'll be seeing Fujiya and Miyagi at Spaceland, so i can't be too bummed.
It's weird to see people type bmack...

01-19-2007, 10:56 AM
Talking Heads > Portishead

That's kind of a ridiculous statement, seeing as Valarie doesn't even LIKE Portishead, so she can't really objectively argue that. And also, Portishead only put out 2 albums, so the volume isn't there. In any case, I'd much prefer Portishead.

01-22-2007, 03:55 PM
i'd love to see portishead. if only the pixies weren't gone. that would be my top pic

01-22-2007, 04:02 PM
I agree. They could play at noon and I'd still watch them. D'uh.
I also think Coachella should add someone like Justin Timberlake to draw the crowds away during Portisheads set. :)

01-22-2007, 05:38 PM
I don't understand and i'm freaking out because of this lineup(i love it but i would've loved it regardless of who played, i think it's all the buildup and waiting and guessing...) but who does this thread say no portishead or why or something other than who thinks billy crystal is funny???

btw i'm freaking out and its not like me. okay maybe a little like me.

01-22-2007, 05:39 PM
the next additions:
gwen stefani and portishead.

01-22-2007, 05:44 PM
please get portishead to play. please please please. please.

01-22-2007, 05:47 PM
...yeah...the Portishead/Tom Waits - PJ Harvey/Mars Volta - Saturday and Sunday seemed like the last set of originals for Coachella to book. I suppose its a tough bunch of talent to schedule.

oh well...anyhow, I recently rediscovered just how ferocious the track 'Cowboys' was on that second album.

feed them to lions

Let it go, kids. Let it go.
