What a great band Garbage is!

I love most of their songs but a few of my favorites are:
Dog new tricks
Sex is not the enemy

what are your favorites?

I like Garbage a hell of a lot too. They broke up though.

Garbage was like my 2nd and 3rd concerts ever....stopped listening to them after Shirley Manson talked shit about Kid A...but really I didn't like anything after Version 2.0

01-15-2008, 04:37 PM
She talked shit about Kid A? How dare she?

01-15-2008, 04:38 PM
She talked shit about Kid A? How dare she?

she said it was crap compared to the Bends and I completely lost it for her after that....

She seems impetuous--I bet she regrets that remark.

I hate to correct you,but they are NOT broken up.From Wiki:

The band cut short a 2005 world tour, and announced an indefinite hiatus, but emphasized the stoppage was not a break-up. Garbage reunited in early 2007 to record new tracks for the greatest hits album, Absolute Garbage, that was released in July 2007.
They sort of have to work around Butch Vig's producing schedule...

In a recent interview with Billboard.com, Butch Vig has stated that Garbage is considering mid-2008 to begin making a fifth album, saying, "We're thinking about it...I think we're more interested in making something that's much more primal and stripped down. Absolute Garbage is the postscript to chapter one. Whatever we do next will definitely be chapter two."

Thanks, breakjaw. I was hoping someone wold correct me. I hadn't heard any news. I really liked their last album.

I only saw them live once at Reading Festival, and they lived up to their name.

01-16-2008, 07:40 AM
I've never seen them live, but I really like some of their covers, particularly The Butterfly Collector.Plus she's sexy as hell...

01-16-2008, 07:55 AM
back in 98 i think it was, they were maybe my fav band too ... saw them half a dozen times, and every show was good to great .... i missed them when they did that short tour a while ago though ... i think i'm paranoid .. canx**

I thought this was just another speculation thread about the lineup...

01-16-2008, 08:21 AM
Eric Avery played bass on their last album.

01-16-2008, 08:23 AM
i saw them open for no doubt about 5 yrs ago. both performances were really good but the crowd was just obnoxious.

I went to that tour because I love Garbage. I left after a few songs by No Doubt because I hate them. Garbage was great, as always. I've seen Garbage open for Smashing Pumpkins (also left early) and Alanis Morissette (I used to like her). I think my first real date with Jacob was at the Garbage/Alanis concert.

01-16-2008, 09:11 AM
man this takes me back. I saw them 3 times in 98. (three of my first six concerts...). every show was fantastic. I haven't seen them since. beautiful garbage was just horrific, so I avoided that tour entirely. the subsequent one was far better, but I felt they were charging too much for tickets.

it's been 9 years now. next time...

my sister went to that show. she wasn't going to until i told her she'd be a freakin idiot for not going. i was "too young" to go so i am still jelous she went.

beautiful garbage was just horrific, so I avoided that tour entirely.

i really don't blame you here. version 2.0 was ok, i still prefer their debut, but beautiful garbage just wasn't the garbage i knew. i pretend it doesn't exist.

I also like their cover of The Ramones "I Just Wanna Have Something To Do"...

01-16-2008, 09:50 AM
Kick My Ass

01-16-2008, 09:53 AM
Is that an Artie Fufkin Polymer Records reference?

01-16-2008, 09:55 AM
Sorry,I just saw it's another Garbage cover..

"kiss My Ass" is a song written and originally performed by folk musician Vic Chesnutt.

Where are those covers from? Movie soundtracks? I haven't heard them.

01-16-2008, 10:08 AM
I saw them when they played Street Scene, I believe it was 2005. Guess that was one of their last shows. I was only vaguely familiar with their work but I really enjoyed their set. They put on a good show.

The Ramones cover is from this (http://www.last.fm/music/Green+Day/We%27re+A+Happy+Family+-+A+Tribute+To+Ramones)iN9mN1FLX6U
The Jam cover (Butterfly Collector) I think was a B-Side.

01-16-2008, 07:09 PM
yeah most of the covers were b-sides I think. I've got them stashed away somewhere. I remember back in '98 they were repeatedly covering some song by Big Star. what was it called? thirteen I think.

oh look what I just found:

Thirteen originally by Big Star
Butterfly Collector originally by The Jam
Candy Says originally by The Velvet Underground
Supernatural originally by Vic Chesnutt
Kick My Ass originally by Vic Chesnutt
I Just Wanna Have Something To Do originally by Ramones
Can't Seem to Make You Mine originally by The Seeds

click the link and they have info on which singles/compilations/etc. the covers and the original versions were on. the ramones cover was included on We're a Happy Family: A Tribute to the Ramones, for example.

01-16-2008, 07:26 PM
oh fine i'm compulsive... here are some of the places they are available:

Thirteen/Push It single.
Butterfly Collector/Queer single. also Fire & Skill: A Tribute to the Jam.
Candy Says/Breaking Up The Girl single.
Kick My Ass/Sweet Relief II: Gravity of the Situation (Vic Chestnutt tribute record)
I Just Wanna Have Something To Do/Bleed Like Me (japanese release). and Why Do You Love Me single. also We're a Happy Family: A Tribute to the Ramones.
Can't Seem to Make You Mine/the Trick Is To Keep Breathing single. and When I Grow Up single.

apparently Candy Says was also covered by Goodby Mr Mackenzie. interesting.

info from the covers project (http://www.coversproject.com/artist/garbage) and the garbage discography (http://www.garbage-discography.co.uk/).

that consumed my train ride nicely. :-)

Amy, you saw Garbage with Alanis? Man, I would've killed to go to that show. When was it? I saw Garbage in '98 or '99 (whenever they did the theme song for the James Bond movie The World is Not Enough) and Alanis with Tori Amos in Phoenix in '99.
I didn't like beautifulgarbage at first because of how different it was from their first 2 albums, but it started growing on me and has some of my favorite Garbage tracks, namely "Cup of Coffee." Their last CD was also hard to get into and I'm still not a big fan of it, but I think it just pales in comparison to their previous work and isn't actually a bad rock n' roll album. (Kind of like how people will downgrade Hail to the Thief due to how it stands in Radiohead's canon.) I'm interested in picking up Absolute Garbage primarily for the remixes but I'm not about to spend $20 on a greatest hits package. I'd love it if they did Coachella, though.

01-16-2008, 10:04 PM
coachella would be the perfect way for me to see garbage again. I'd be so happy.

agreed, i fucking loved that band during 98/99...

we will see now won't we :)

01-17-2008, 01:55 PM
I don't know...BELIEVE ME, I would love it....but I don' think it will happen this year....

01-17-2008, 07:17 PM
oh it won't. but if it happened one year, whichever year, that'd be awesome.

better be soon though. those guys ain't getting any younger.
