i really should go see Shpongle tonight. I have no good reason not to.

Anyone seeing Horace Andy at The Dub Club in Echo Park this Wednesday? $12 after fees to see a true legend. I can't wait.

I really wanted to go to this, but found out it was 21+. I am not very familiar with Horace Andy but an older lady I work with from Jamaica was urging me to go and check him out especially since it was only $12, and saying he was a legend etc. Have fun!

how hard is it to edit your own blog and say the winner is blah blah blah? Or just do a quick grouping of all the entries and do a reply all email blast, you could even put a direct link to you next contest in the blast. Just a thought.

I just did this today after we finally drew a winner for Rage Against The Machine (It took a LONG time to qualify all the entries) and did an e-mail blast. What a waste of time! Lots of whiny babies and angry responses. Remind me to never do this again for any contest. If you won, we'll let you know. If you didn't hear anything, you didn't win. Unless you're Guedita or CutterButter, don't wait for your hand written response in the mail or carrier pigeon. Ok, thanks, bai!

from Jason Hill's Facebook(I don't even know who this guy is, but it's a pretty cool Supergroup he has going on):

Hi All,

I’ll be playing my new material for the first time on July 15 in Silverlake, CA at Satellite (formally Spaceland). I’ve been working on an album for two years with some friends of mine and we are almost done. The band playing on July 15 is Alex Carapetis(Nine Inch Nails), Dominic Howard(from Muse), Mark Stoermer (from Killers), Ray Suen (Flaming Lips), Sam Gendel on Sax and myself. The show will probably sell quick so I wanted to tell all my friends first before it goes public. Hope you can make the fun. Stay tuned for bits of music to be released coming soon. The album is the best thing I’ve ever done. The band will be playing on July 15 under the name EXPENSIVE LOVE. Tickets can be purchased at http://www.thesatellitela.com/.

Is the lineup shit or are they just bands you don't know? i don't recognize most of the bands.

Last year I discovered a ton of bands I didn't know and ended up liking a lot! The fest was incredibly well-organized and well-run, we saw a ton of bands, got free booze, and got to eat from a bunch of awesome food trucks. Headliners got full sets as well.

Oh yeah! I forgot this was the same thing. Your stories about it at Mogwai made me really wanna go this year.

I just checked, and the Sleep show at the Wiltern this Sunday is MASSIVELY undersold...as in, plenty of floor tickets still available and practically the entire balcony as well. They really should move it to the Fonda.

For Culture Collide, i'll concede that this year there is nothing like the Amusement Parks On Fire-Suuns-Besnard Lakes-Land Of Talk show that somehow got squeezed into the middle of it and became the easy highlight, but this will still be worth way more than $20. I'd expect a lot of adds, unless they're scaling down. They were adding bands until mid-festival last year.

Try to win tickets between now and then, last year they were literally giving away tickets for the Dirty Projectors show at the Wiltern, and this is even more undersold than that was.

Afterwards, Pat said thanks to everyone who put on the event and to all of us for watching and goes to start packing up, and I had to walk up and whisper to him to mention their freaking residency at the Echo in August. Such a prime moment for promotion and he totally failed. It was funny. A few minutes later this chick who works at the Echo came up and said "Thank you SO much for reminding him! So what's the deal with the Madlib / Peanut Butter Wolf show?

Saw this on the website:

Beats, Ryhmes, & Life film release party featuring Madlib, Peanut Butter Wolf, and Prince Paul. Hosted by Phife and Michael Rapaport.

Is this a private party, can you buy tickets, or is it RSVP...?

You'll be able to buy tickets beforehand, its not private. The event is part of a new bi-monthly club a friend is throwing called Paper Ships.

I'm guessing Madlib is going to be DJing. I caught him at the Masonic Lodge gig last December with Flying Lotus, and he was just doing a DJ set (funky as hell though).

Okkervil and Titus were very great tonight at The Wiltern. It was kinda disappointing to see a lot of people leave after Titus though especially since Okkervil were stellar. Got a set that i can't decipher at all and a Kevin Tong poster. Great show considering the tickets were close to 17$.

It's also the same night as Yellow Magic Orchestra and Cibo Matto at the Hollywood Bowl. Considering how Sleep was just in LA last year and they haven't been here in 32 and 10 years, respectively, no wonder.

Well, then again, dunno how much crossover there is. Probably not much.

How many do you think they put out for this? Capacity is about 300 so I'm guessing between 75 and 100. It would be tight if we could get a smoke session in with Cypress during the sound check but that probably won't happen.

You'll probably get floor tickets.

This is the floor section
http://www.bizbash.com/content/resource/ResourceImage/big/r812009Wiltern-Open-Floor.jpg
The first(closest to stage) tier is first come and you get a wristband to come & go all night. Chris is probably right on that 150 number but I've seen it more packed before. I think you can also buy a wristband for $20 to be guaranteed. Besides the front, the rest of the section are all GA and open to everyone. I like being in the back against the wall of section 1 to come and go, or against the front wall of section 2 which is on level with the stage and has no one standing in front of you blocking your view.

Hope that helps! And bring earplugs. Sleep + The Wiltern is going to destroy everything.

O yeah, its not the first 150 in line to get the pit, its the first 150 to go and get a wristband from the ushers. So don't dillydaddle (done that before and missed out).

Music Schedule

Thursday, August 4 4:30-6:30pm The Sounds featured with Walk The Walk

Friday, August 5 4:30-6:30pm Jimmy Eat World preceded by Dead Country

!!!

Doors are at 7 for the Sleep show tonight, and FYF announced the VERY special guest: Premonition 13, the new band from Wino (singer/guitarist for St. Vitus)!!!!!!

Everybody show up early, Wino is fuckin' awesome.

Adam Ant can definitely go into the car crash category as far as live performances go. Nothing like seeing the first album I ever bought slaughtered.

Sleep was fucking astounding tonight, as expected. Got up nice and close in the pit, cool hanging out with NMH and bmack throughout. There was some tall skinny white kid fucking riverdancing the whole time...one of the weirdest things I've seen at a show in awhile, and a fitting end to what has been one of the stranger weekends I've had in recent memory.

Looks like I'll see Com Truise four times in August.

Oh and Harvey Milk was fantastic, too. Their lead singer brought a very Michael Gira-esque intensity to the band. I was pretty wowed by all of their set.

Sleep was fucking amazing. Everything about that show was the best thing I've ever seen.

Pretty sure I saw bmack, as I recognized him from his profile pictures, getting his will call tickets. They claimed they didn't have the list of contest winners, but then you persuaded them to give you yours so I was able to get mine to instead of waiting. So thanks. :D

So did Sleep say "this is our last show in LA forever" as suggested?

San Francisco appears to be the only major city not on the Com Truise tour. Why?

Edit: oh, he was here in march and I didn't know about it

They did not. They didn't really say anything, but I heard alot of people talking about it, so I think that's sort of what's going on.

he's supposedly opening for Active Child at Bottom of the Hill, but they haven't announced it for some reason.

edit: looks like they announced a full supporting tour with Active Child then canceled most of the dates. Salt Lake City and a couple others still have the full bill, so it'll probably happen once they work out whatever it is that they need to.

I think one of the guys MAYBE kind of uttered "thank you" under his breath at one point. That was the extent of any speaking to the audience hahaha
