I'm debating as well... i got tickets for both Yuck and QOTSA tomorrow night, but I rather see YUCK... btw, i got a pair of tix to Yuck show at the Satellite on Thurs night for face value... I really have to get ready for Coachella and planning to leave that night.

Hit me up!

Have you ever seen them before? They are always great, but the material from this record are all fucking monsters live

Couldn't agree more. Regular John, Avon and Mexicola are freaking outstanding live. PLus theyve been doing a 7 song or so encore of mixed tracks from other records. I'll be at the show tomorrow and so stoked.

$25 to see Prince in this day and age is a freakin' steal. When I first saw Prince in concert (January 1998, when he was just known as "The Artist") my ticket was $35.

One of my friends who saw him earlier this year at MSG is pissed that I got my tickets at $25 a pop. (although I'm sure she won't be as mad after she comes out for one of the remaining 18 dates)

Best upside to the $25 tickets though, if they keep this up for the rest of the dates I'll be able to hit many more than I would have thought possible.

Going to go see Wire with The Prids opening in a few minutes. The venue streams shows here (http://www.ustream.tv/channel/dante-s-stage-cam#utm_campaigne=synclickback&source=http://danteslive.com/&medium=5616066), if anybody wants to see what the tour's looking like before Coachella. But yea, ticket buying once word gets around (sure it has already) is gonna be a bitch. That said, I got Explosions in the Sky tickets a@HF late the night of the same day as on sale. Not saying FL and EitS are on the same popularity level but hoping beyond all hope it's low key enough to have a shot at tickets.

Not only was this so so awesome (after the first few songs, anyway - they either took a couple to hit their stride or the sound guy took a few to get everything to sound right), I had been expecting to hear only things I didn't recognize - I only really know the super early stuff and was under the impression they don't really play that anymore - and that wasn't the case. It was a good crowd, too, and a surprisingly good fit for the venue (considering their decorative iron chains and skank platform motif). Great show.

There's a lunar eclipse (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/June_2011_lunar_eclipse) on June 15. It won't be visible from LA, though.

Either way, it's a full moon, so should be a great night for a show in the cemetery, even if we won't actually be looking at the dark side of the moon.

Really? I though they were exceedingly mediocre (except for five songs near the end, none of which were prior favorites). I wrote a full review but it hasn't been posted yet.

The first few songs were weak as previously stated, and the slower songs didn't do a whole lot for me, but I really enjoyed the rest. We did attend two different shows in two pretty different venues (if the Metro pictures I'm looking at are adequately representative). Maybe it worked better in the scuzzy little Hell-themed PDX bar.

This is from the Ticketmaster page so probably:

Onsale Dates & Times
Price Range
Please Note...
Access to the pit is limited in number. Wristbands will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis. Once all wristbands are distributed no more will be allocated for that show

Show starts at 9! Why do doors open so early? I'll probably show up around 8.

I should have set times soon for Yuck. Please ask Psychic Friend if they have merch. Thanks!

Three of Clubs is just a bar with a back area for performances. Pretty small but not our best venue. They have had some pretty big names though. Usually shows are free.

posted this in the shpongle thread, but i'll repost here...

I'm glad you guys liked the show. I had a great time with Shpongle at the Key Club of all places. At Coachella with a big set up must have been great.

pre sale is already on sale for the show at the wiltern, and you get 3 random rab albums for free as well.

Shpongle and EOTO (who were amazing at Lightning In A Bottle last year) for $30 is a great deal

notice the time says till 4am as well...

Mrs.Hill was extremely fucking good at Coachella like she was timeless aged and her hits were fresh. But $70 is way too much for a single artist unless promise a 30 plus setlist or a great set of artist are playing together.

Also Anyone know what the set time is for Prince tomorrow?

moviebruin

Ended up at the El Rey last night. Major sound issues at the start of the set. She mixed in like half a dozen Bob Marley songs throughout her set. There was plenty of room to move around (prob thanks to the high ticket price). About half way through she really found her groove and really killed it. Got a good amount of video from the front that I'll post soon.

$70 is way too much to drop last minute. The most I've ever spent on a ticket was McCartney at the Bowl last march, and those were $80, knowing I'd be getting a huge bang for my buck.

I got hooked up for the concert. But, I would prob agree the concert wasn't worth the $77 face value or whatever it was. Although, I can see hardcore fans paying that given the circumstances (small venue, rare chance to see her perform a lot of Marley songs, and it was 4/20!) Her voice is not the same and the band and background singers overpowered her at times. But, she was in good spirits and still brought it. Per the set times she was suppose to come on at 10 but her DJ came on at that time, she came on at 11 and went to around 12:45.

So I just looked up John Maus on MySpace and his Information window is a collection of probably the most savage reviews of his work. That alone is enough to make me want to see this show at the Echo.

REVIEWS OF 'SONGS' (2006)
It took this Ariel Pink cohort five years to write and record his debut album, and only five minutes to become more annoying than Ariel Pink. - CMJ
For me, this is just too weird. The first couple of tracks make this the most skip-able album of 2006. -Subba Cultcha
Apparently, Maus spent five years working on this album, which is a shame because, frankly, its awful. -Vice
There isn't one song you could call 'good' on the whole album. -Music Zine
Overall, I can't recommend this album even as a novelty listen. Maybe I just don't get it. It seems as if Maus sabotages practically any hint of an interesting melody, lyric, or instrumental part with a blatantly grating one at almost every turn. -Indie Workshp
Maus's baroquely deadpan voice - and thats being polite - effectively spoils many a song. Some will hear a little Nick Cave in it; others will hear a man crapping out of his mouth. -Drowned in Sound
If it is supposed to be funny, it is not. If it is meant seriousy, then Maus needs some SERIOUS help. -Another Zine

REVIEWS OF 'LOVE IS REAL' (2007)
His music now lacks the surreal, jarring juxtapositions that made his earlier work such a rewardingly confounding experience. Maus seems content to sing his heart out instead of rattling cages, which is rather a shame. -The Wire

Am I the only one who thought that Lauryn lost a lot of her voice and he band was REALLY good and not her. Back up singers were finishing her notes.

You're not the only one. She wasn't very good at all, and only performed songs that she didn't have to hit any hard notes. Not to mention, the first 10 minutes were her playing hype man for her own band (after being, what, 20 minutes late already?).

The show was whack. People just have this weird fascination with her and think she is amazing.

Yes, to be honest i thought her energy and set was dope at the fest... then I just watched my footage last night and her voice was waaaack... couldn't carry a note... Ms. Badu on the other hand killed it with her singing, but the set wasn't as tight.

If nobody has anything to do tonight, my bandmate and I are doing our first show since like last year. Funny thing, it's at the same place we did our first show, on the day before the exact date of our first show. (April 23, 2010)

We're organizing the night ourselves and our best friends are playing in each of their respective bands. Seriously, Moon Man are fucking great. You will be blown away by them, I guarantee it.

It's free, you just gotta show up and have some fun. We go on around 10PM. Here's the flyer:

Either way, it's going to be really fun seeing a full set of kyuss songs finally.
