These guys have consistently released some of the best American music around for entirely too long. I'm not familiar with all the bands of the collective (I wonder if they even are) but Neutral Milk, OTC, Circulatory System, Apples in Stereo and Of Montreal are some of my faves.

Let us begin a discussion of these fantastic musicians.

And, if you haven't heard any Elephant Six music, go to www.elephant6.com and get some of the free live shows they've posted up there. Olivia Tremor Control and Neutral Milk Hotel both have fantastic recordings up.

After listening to this whole Neutral Milk Hotel show from 1998, I think it's safe to say that we need them to play again. Such an intense recording.

Also, rumor around the Elephant 6 town hall site is that Will Cullen Hart and Bill Doss are writing together again, which could mean another Olivia Tremor Control album. Hip hip hooray.

Beulah was quite good too. I've heard good stuff from the High Water Marks, the Essex Green and the Sunshine Fix (Bill Doss) too.

I am trying to remember how much I heard from the Gerbils (Scott Spillane) and the Ladybug Transistor but I'm not sure.

That NMH show is from the Independent or something in San Francsico, right? And there's video of "Song Against Sex" up there too, right? I mean I got it from somewhere.

I love the first Apples in Stereo record.

E6 West
Based in Denver, Colorado, where The Apples In Stereo reside. Bands include Marbles, Von Hemmling, Secret Square, and Dressy Bessy. The Minders also were based in Denver for a time, but are currently located in Portland, Oregon.

Yeah, Beulah is really good, or were.
Pipes You See, Pipes you Don't did some interesting stuff, and Great Lakes was entertaining.

John, that is the Independent show. It's astounding, despite a few moments of clipping. I'm listening to an Olivia Tremor Control Bootleg from the Emmaboda Festival right now, waiting to hear the 10 minute version of Sylvan Screen.

can anyone tell me which artist recorded most of their album by burying a tape recorder under the ground? all i have to go on is that it was release under elephant six...

not much of a clue. Do you mean that Robert Schneider released the recordings on the Elephant 6 label, or that they were part of the collective? Two different things, those.

FUCK! I So would have gone to that. I've seen the Olivias, the Apples and Elf Power, and they were all fantastic. OTC was one of the best sets I've ever seen.

Good job with the mix. That's the kinda spirit we're looking for.

Sometimes I listen to ITAOTS and have to not listen to it for awhile because it is so intense.
