The 23rd is going to be the day after month end at my job, so I'll be very eager to have some drinks. 115 hours last pay period, 120 this one, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to do something stupid like 48 hours between tomorrow and Thursday. Insobriety will be in order.

Micah: did it cost you anything or was that a free upgrade? Jen tells me I can upgrade my 2-year-old phone and I'm considering finally doing so.

Ivy: sorry to hear you're still blue. Will you be available next Sunday? Maybe acting in a short scene of my movie and hanging out with me, Marc, and an affable, attractive British actor will be therapeutic?

I get off work at 330 and work pretty close to downtown/tempe area. I can meet anywhere and probably will get their earlier than most. I have trouble drinking beer these days, the carbonation doesn't mix well with my meds. So somewhere that does a good mixed drink would be preferable for me.

A lot of people don't know this, but the gall bladder naturally secretes Ritalin, making it easier to pay attention. Thanks for making fun of my handicap. I am reporting this to Dani.

I do have six weeks so I bet I'll find something else but, yeah, that is always an (horrible) option. I don't mind living here when they're gone but would not want anything extended beyond that. Thankfully they won't be getting back until just before I have to be out of the other house.

Also, just to clarify, I do not own the house what is being foreclosed and am not involved in it other than being a renter. And I was thinking of moving anyway and likely would've if not for it being so so close to work. Oh well.

FilmBar is coming to downtown Phoenix!
Written by Kelly Aubey
Thursday, 15 July 2010 22:06

FilmBar is an independent movie theater and beer/wine bar featuring Independent, foreign, art house, cult, and classic film -- and more!

Planned opening is November 2010!

We're furiously working to get all of the moving parts, um, moving so that FilmBar can be up and running as soon as possible.

Follow us on Twitter to be kept up-to-date on our progress (Facebook coming soon).

awesome. camelview really sucks for that sort of thing since it's so old, so small and so close to one of the busiest malls ever.

I wouldn't count on it being competition for Camelview. We had an independent theatre in Flagstaff for a while, and they couldn't get a lot of what they wanted to get because Harkins would somehow tie up the rights even if they weren't showing it. For example, say there's a new Wes Anderson movie. Harkins would get the rights to show it in Flagstaff, but they might not ACTUALLY show it for 4-8 weeks while they wait to see how popular it is. Meanwhile, the independent theatre can't get anything but obscure foreign and documentaries. Which is cool, but they couldn't support themselves in a small town showing The Parakeets Of Telegraph Hill for weeks on end.

It might be different here because there might be more zones. Distributors only release X number of copies of any film into each zone. I'm not sure if "zone" is the word they use, but you get the idea.

I'm just going to hope they program a good selection of cult/retro/foreign stuff and assume I'm still going to have to go to Camelview now and then.

faxman75
07-20-2010, 02:34 PM
If it's anything like the one in Chitown they would feature a director and show 3 movies back to back to back with the last movie always starting at midnight. The cost was always $5 no matter when you arrived so you can see 1 or 3 movies for that price depending on when you arrived. The difference is the Vic also held concerts and during the week they would show reality shows, sports championships and things like that.

Mostly they would show 2nd run movies. They basically would show really awful movies to laugh and talk through, or classic movies. It was very casual and many people would say the dialog along with the film while watching. This wasn't a stfu and watch type place. They would always have $3 draft specials as well. I'm hoping this fills that void in my life.

Alligator Bogaloo

Last show I went to at Mesa Amp was for Death Cab, and we met up at RT O' Sullivan's on Southern. Ivysaur was going to meet us there, but she had car issues ( I think it was locking her keys in her car, or something like that). I'm sure there are better places, though.

Dave's Electric Brewpub is annoying and it's on-campus, which generally makes for a shitty crowd. Plus, it's small.

Robbie Fox's, on the other hand, is pretty damn great. I went there a few weeks ago with Sheree. The bar inside is an old bar from Ireland from the early 1900's and it has bullet holes and junk in it from a shootout or something. It also has a huge outdoor patio with misters and stuff. Food is really good too. Not typical bar/Irish food. Robbie's gets my vote. It's way better. Plus, it's 1/2 off all apps. Last time I was there I got an irish bacon, guyere, and leek tart with a salad for $4.

I boycotted The Library because I got so damn tired of people asking me, when I told them that I worked at the library, "oh, you mean the bar on Mill?" (or, a couple of times from creepy guys, "so, you have one of those sexy schoolgirl uniforms?"). Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

So, my vote still goes for Dave's Electric. If there's no really strong opposition I'll make a reservation there - I don't think the college crowd thing will be a huge deal, since we'll be doing it relatively early in the evening.

OK young kegger people, if you're interested I have a keg shell on my porch that I will never have any use for. I think it's bud light if I remember right. I hear they are good to have if you are into throwing keg parties (which I am not). Then you don't have to pay a deposit when you go to get a keg filled. Anyone interested in taking it off my hands?

westcoastpirate
07-21-2010, 11:59 AM
Whatever was in the keg before does not determine what they will fill the keg with. When you go to the liquor store, you give them the old empty shell and they give you a new one with whatever beer you want inside. They don't actually fill the old shell with beer. You are correct, in that they will not charge you a deposit for the shell, but will probably charge you a deposit for the tap.

Now let's get this keg down at Micah's then head over to Yucca Tap Room after it's dry!

...it's not like I'll be able to make the party anyways.

07-21-2010, 12:01 PM

I went to Wild Horse Pass Casino on Saturday night around midnight. I give it a 4 star review. Easily the best AZ Casino I have been too. It helps that it's only 15 minutes up the road but I really like the layout. I played slots for a few minutes and blew $20 super fast. Then I won it back at blackjack. I decided to check out the poker room and sat down with $50. I played for about 2 hours and won $100. They had a pocket face card bonus, first person to crack JJ, QQ, KK, or AA's and lose the hand gets $200. I was at a simple $3-$6 limit table when I got pocket AA's. We raise to the max limit after every card and at the end my pocket AA's beat pocket KK's and pocket QQ's. The flop, turn and river didn't help any of us. I won the fat pot, the KK's were already cracked so the QQ's won the $200 bonus. That was the first time I stayed up all night in a while. I went to bed after 6am. I can't wait to go back.

Well I'm Not Yo' Average Cat, it was alright, crowd seemed fine. There was actually a lot of topless women getting painted which was a nice surprise. It was a glow party so there was a lot of black lights and neon. I also knew the bartender which meant it only took a few drinks. That all said, I probably stayed less than two hours, but it wasn't bad. Would go back.

The SoundStrike thing seems so unlike Zack. He's always taken the fight to ground zero in the past. This time he tried to throw rocks from Hollywood in front of an intimate crowd. Weird.

WTF happened to the dry heat. I walked outside to get something out of my car and it's so muggy that my eyeglasses fogged over. I would never survive in the midwest or back east. This shit is narsty.

last night was crazy. we left this pool hall in tempe by where i work to go to a club in scottsdale. it was kinda sprinkling at the pool hall. the second i head north on the ten at elliot to head to the 143, it was fucking pouring like cats and dogs! i had to go super slow. by the time we got on the 143 though, the rain completely stopped. fucking crazy.

The high is only suppose to be 97 on Saturday, that doesn't sound bad but when you throw in 60% humidity it makes me not want to leave my apartment.

I just want to be in the middle of a good storm. I have only gotten a few sprinkles of rain here and there. Enough to fuck up my windshield and that's it.

I live off 48th St and Elliot and we barely got anything about 8:30pm. It looked ominous outside though.

We got a good storm on Tuesday night. My family took a walk after the rain and saw a toad. Last night I only heard one crack of thunder and no rain, and if it rained during the night, it didn't wake me up.

between the exploding damn up the street, the college co-ed car-wreck mix-up, soaring humidity, SB1070, and undercover narc crybabies, I have to say that at least Phoenix's Public Health STD clinic is always open and cheap.

Of course, as soon as I say, in an exaggeratedly whiny voice, "We haven't gotten any rain," it rains all night at our house and apparently pours all day while I'm at work.

Dig that intersection; Trader Joe's, Hoodlums, good Italian place, Pei Wei.

PS-You can get tickets for shows promoted by Stateside at Hoodlums with only $1 fee, cash only. Way better than paying the online fees for shows.
