Friday night - FUN! (for the most part)

Saturday night - FUN!

Sunday night - arriving home to a house full of gnats from a window being left open = not so fun. The fucking cat couldn't be arsed to eat them all. Looks like I'm taking a sick day tomorrow to stay home and get an exterminator to come over and make sure the rest of the fuckers are gone. And get a landscaper to finally come out and make our backyard presentable. (Maybe we can actually invite people to come over for once.)

I'm reasonably certain that Pomona is the meth capital of the west coast.

However, we did see Paul T eating BBQ at Joey's across from the Glasshouse. Hey, Paul! You're supposed to take your hat of whilst eating at a restaurant. Especially when you're with a lady. Kthx.

G&D is fun, but it is ALWAYS packed. If you go, get there early.

I'm debating on whether or not to just stay home. I may go to Churchill's in Chandler. Depends on how I feel...will be a last minute decision. I may also be going to Flag this weekend, so if I do that, I'll be watching at my friend's house.

I watched some games at the G&D off 48th St and Baseline during the last World Cup and it was packed but not too packed. It was during the week though. Definitely not as rowdy or packed as the G&D near Central and Indian School, went there for 1 game and it was intense.

Never been but the googles has all kinds of positive reviews and that's really rare.

Here's just one of them.

Very interesting place...we stopped by last night after we heard it had its grand opening the week prior. They weren't officially open (decided that was the soft open and would hold the grand opening on 5/23 instead), but they invited us in to have a beer. All of the beers were throwbacks - PBR, Schlitz, Hamm's etc. The menu looks unique and the whole concept is very interesting. They told us the target clientele are families, but I see it more as young hipsters - will be interesting to see how it pans out.

I'm still surprised every time I walk into the Rhythm Room and see they have $1.50 PBR's. I should have purchased and drank 6 of those bad boys during Mumford & Sons last night.

What a fantastic crowd and awesome show, so much energy in that place and the banter with the crowd was hilarious, the lead singer forgot which college was near so he asked how many people went to UofA. After all the boos he laughed and said 'yep that was the response I was going for, i'll tell you what, I don't really give a damn where you go to university'. They will never be back at a venue that size again, that's for sure, sold out and on fire they were. The Rhythm Room is one of the few venues in Phoenix I will actually say I love.

i love when people talk about the "illegals" in their neighborhood without ever knowing if they are actually illegal or not; they just see brown and assume.

I think my neighbors are citizens, but I think they had a bunch of "illegals" staying with them. They always used to have 5 or 6 cars there, and no one would acknowledge me if I said hello. But now, there are only 2 cars, and the father came and introduced himself the other day and invited me to a party. So, That Law may have actually worked in my favor.

went to get x-rays at my awesome primary care doc who has an x-ray machine in his office, only to find out it was broken lol. went to another place, waiting to hear back. they gave me vicodin though at least. but those fucking stairs at my place are BRUTAL. and i'm on the 2nd floor of my work and there's only 1 elevator in a useless part of my office, so i'm dreading going back to work tomorrow. kinda sucks too cause my flexible spending account was pretty much empty. but thankfully i didn't have any insanely important meetings today or anything. and i'm REALLY glad i iced it last night because it wasn't nearly as disgusting this morning.

and yes, all are welcome saturday. i'm ok with anytime dusk or later. PM me for my address if you don't have it already. today left me kinda broke though, so i won't be able to provide much in the way of drinks, but i do have a TON of ice & non-alcoholic margarita mix if someone wants to bring tequila or something. i know y'all usually bring your own thing, but just a fair warning :)

These metaphors is getting ridiculous. I am introverted and always have been introverted, and also not very self-sufficient or social. My daughter is the same way to such a degree that I think she's 2 or 3 years (4?) behind socially, so I don't see her turning to pot all that soon unless someone with a very strong personality seeks to dominate her, which, I admit, very well could happen. Being anti-social does have its perks in that I don't use any social drugs.

That is seriously a lot of words to type. I guess I should feel fortunate i'm getting a community college education and writing a lot less words for my essays. Good luck to you though, hope the words start flowing easy for you. I never would have thought you would have to write a 30 page essay to get a yoga certification.

I.F.A.
06-10-2010, 07:23 PM
^Thanks. :)

It's not a continuous essay - the exam is 17 questions (some of them with several subparts) which each need to be answered in an essay format. So, 1.5-3 pages for each question = about 30 pages. Plus I have to design a series of classes. So, still bad enough, lol.

I'm glad that I did this, but I'm also really glad I'm almost done. The course required 200 hours of in-class training at the ashram (so, 8 hour days, Saturday and Sunday, every other weekend - though it was every weekend for the first month and a half or so) plus at least 20 hours of taking yoga classes outside of the training, a day long meditation session, a 3 day silent retreat (which was awesome), 40 continuous days of doing the same yoga set and meditation (which I have not completed...), and sundry other requirements, since January.

It will be nice to have my weekends back.

Okay, break's over...

Its sounds like you're becoming a monk. I was thinking about a chivinandra class because of the incorporated meditation. What are your thoughts on that particular style, IFA?

Ha, a bit. The style of yoga which I'm training in (Kundalini) is a lot more spiritually oriented than hatha or others (it's associated with American Sikhism, and I'm training at a Sikh ashram - which, the religious aspects really turned me off at first, but after having gained some familiarity with them, the Sikh scriptures really resonate with me - and even then, the religious part isn't really prevalent unless you get into it hardcore - I've been exposed to so much of it because I'm training to teach). There's a lot of meditation, mantra, and breath work which wouldn't be found in a "typical" yoga class. Some of the background philosophy, and lifestyle for those who are fully into it, can be a bit... well, cultish (it's built on Raj yoga, so some of it is philosophically in line with the sutras, but some of it is way out there - which, it started being taught in the U.S. in the 60s, so there are a lot of old hippies still practicing it - and there's also been a lot of controversy surrounding the founder), but the style of yoga is more effective for me than other yogas that I've practiced (mostly hatha and Bikram, though I've studied a bit about Iyengar), so I just do the yoga and take everything else that's said with a grain of salt. I actually find it fascinating because I studied religion in college, and planned to focus in cult studies... Not that I'm knocking it, or even definitively saying that it's a cult... it's just cultish, considering the wackier elements and unquestioning devotion of the lifestylers. And I firmly believe that the yoga itself is effectual, and I'd certainly recommend it to others, wherever it came from and whatever else is associated with it. I guess my relationship to it is slightly complicated.

Aaaaaanyway... I'm not at all familiar with chivinandra - I don't think I've even heard of it. What style of meditation is used?

Dale Graham Took A Liking To A Neighbor’s Vacuum Hose

Payson, Arizona (The Weekly Vice) Dale Graham, a 94-year-old Arizona man, was arrested Thursday after he was allegedly found in another person's garage - masturbating with a vacuum cleaner hose.

According to the Payton Police Department, an investigation began when neighbors complained that Graham was sitting in a garage that did not belong to him, pleasuring himself with a running vacuum cleaner.

Investigators say the arrest followed a three-week investigation into the incident, along with claims he had molested two young children. Graham had contact with young children and inappropriately touched at least two of them. The potential victims' ages range from 8 to 17.

He was arrested without incident on June 3.

I wasn't smart enough to realize what was up. I was in TinyChat and Hannah and Marc were there and kept saying I should take it seriously, pointing me to talk of symptoms, etc. Then when I started to have those symptoms and my face and throat and tongue were getting numb I called my friend.

And I really only did that because his wife responded to my first joking Facebook status saying how serious it was and that I should call them if I needed anything.

And I am thrilled that the World Cup is on right now; I am weak as shit and having something good to watch on TV is great. The pace and sudden explosions of soccer is very fitting for how I feel right now, too.

Poor Hannah. After you got picked up, she said "That was fucking terrifying!" I wasn't that worried until you said your throat was tingling, but by then your friend was already on the way.

My biggest fear is getting bit by one of those suckers. Glad you are relatively ok John.

Marc, have a great birthday tomorrow!

I didn't use an exclamation point. Don't misrepresent my demeanor. That was fucking terrifying. I stated it. I didn't shriek it.

I take it John got stung by a scorpion and then had some sort of reaction so he went to the ER where they probably pumped him full of (something) and kept him in observation then sent him home?

They gave me a couple percocets is all. It was hilarious trying to swallow them because I could only feel dull, indistinctly in my mouth. I was there maybe 45 minutes then I went and stayed at my friend's house so there'd be people around that might notice if I had further reactions.

the time I got stung, on the toe next to my big toe, my leg got tingly but the toe was dead numb for a full week. but the sting itself was one of the most painful things I've ever experienced.

tingly throat is scary, where'd you get stung? Glad you're ok John.

Right foot by the little toe.

I was a little intoxicated (not drunk, though) so I was amused by how weird it felt to drink. After I finished the water they gave me I started on the ice; that was awesome because you bite it and it there'd be a lot of spots all over my mouth that stung but it wasn't a full mouth thing like with liquid water.

Then feeling the percocet try to take over against the venom... quite odd.

I was stung in my left buttcheek in bed in the middle of the night while sleeping. The tips of my fingers and toes tingled, as well as my lips and the end of my tongue. And I couldn't sit down for about 24 hours cause it really hurt when anything would touch the sting area on my cheek.

I was kind of freaked out but my wife had been stung the week before so I knew I'd be ok since she was ok. It was definitely hard going back to sleep since it was like 3am by the time we found the scorpion and went back to bed. I definitely feel your pain, John. Very freaky but glad you are ok.

it's ok, i'm actually in a lot of pain today and should just cancel. sorry marc, i'm lame :( if amy can drive me tomorrow though i will hopefully be in better spirits for your MOTHER FUCKING BIRTHDAY!!!!!!! hope the business meeting went well.

john, i hope you're doing ok. scorpions are scary!!! it's getting to be that season. i hope you're ok. how bad was it?

I should be able to pick you up when I'm out of yoga. :) Assuming that I'm coherent enough to drive - I have to be back at the ashram at 4:00 for the morning service, and then drive out to Scottsdale at 9:00 for another full day of class, so I might be slightly delirious by the end of the day. At least they have comfy couches to sleep on. I'll text you at lunch and let you know for sure. :)

And... yikes about the scorpion bite. I hope you heal quickly!

ah crap, that sux john...i've seen (and killed) about 5 scorpions here at my house. haven't seen any in a little bit though. i really don't wanna get stung...but if i did, i would prefer it be in the toe while walking around rather than in the buttocks in bed while sleeping.

i hope your sting feels better soon!

Your non-self-righteousness in your vegetarianism is very refreshing. Most resent the existence of pork sandwiches, while you fantasize about them.

I will slay you all at Rock Band.

BRING IT! do you sing or play an instrument?

I want to make it over some time for Rock Band but the warning must go out that I am terrible.

we would love to have you. thankfully micah & marc have an extra guitar so we can get both the guitar and bass action going when they come. what would you want to play? or do you want to siiiiiiiiiiiing? we'll need to plan another weekend night so rick & jen can come out too. i couldn't find any depeche mode for jen to sing, but maybe she'll settle for some duran duran :)

what about the weekend of the 26th?
