Don't try to ignore me Jason. I've thrown down the gauntlet...

it'll get more organized a few weeks from the actual fest...

a good question for all the newbs for this year is:

"What time will you be arriving in Indio?"

If you want to be a part of the main group, we'll be meeting up in Indio to caravan in together. Probably around noon or 1pm...the place/time will be decided a few weeks before.

if you can't make the main group, we encourage you to set up your own meetup locations/times to come in together in smaller groups. we'll figure out a way to mark the "main" location, where we'll all be set up, so everyone that doesn't come in at same time can find us and the party. :D

No one listen to Jason, he's destroyed what the camp all alone club is really about. Picking and choosing who's in the main group. Trying to tell everyone to meet at noon or 1. Which is it, Jason? Which is it? He'll probably ask for donations next. Everyone should splinter off and camp all alone.

I just noticed that the thread was from 2008 too. Didn't notice that before. lol!

What's funny is, when I said there were 75 people in PAW in 2008...that's how many people WE had. But they yammer so much, you'd think they were 5 times bigger. Our thread was pretty short, because it was mostly just people sending me PMs, but we had a huge group.

My biggest regret...FumFum camped with us and I didn't even meet her. I never saw the "Hi FumFum" thread until later on...didn't know she was a board celebrity.

Don't try to ignore me Jason. I've thrown down the gauntlet...

You are going to have to try harder. We are as drama free as you can get.....at least I think lol. We did offend GPS with our obnoxious and loud behavior in 2008 and I never even met him but we did laugh all weekend about how quiet PAW was in 2008 especially after all the hype about how hard they were gonna party. Our group was pretty damn large, 80 + people or so but god damn that weekend was a blast. We are the oldest and largest group and we are too lazy to organize far in advance like we did in years past. Jason was far more polite than I was with his response though. My thoughts were I don't feel like fielding your questions noobs so try again later.

sin213
03-09-2010, 04:54 PM
what's this now?

i'm not stating that we split anyone up or that anyone is "chosen" for the main group...

since we can't save spots anymore, we have to all go in together. so we were going to have a meeting location with a time that we would be leaving for the campgrounds. if anyone can't be there by that time, they'll have to form their own "groups" and then meet up with the main group inside to party.

no one is deciding who gets in the main group...just whoever can get there by a predetermined time.

paw is the group that is self imploding. lol

but we did laugh all weekend about how quiet PAW was in 2008 especially after all the hype about how hard they were gonna party.

It really did start out as a joke to make fun of my group. The original post has been edited too many times, but it was directly making fun of me. When we got there and found out we were next to each other, Headstruck came over and introduced himself and said "Dude, don't worry, it's not going to be that crazy, it was just a joke." (Or something like that.)

The most outrageous thing PAW did in 2008 was install a "dance tent" that crossed the fire lines...and it was gone by Friday morning.

Agreed. And you can't dare start ANOTHER movie thread. I tried to start one once specifically about shitty movies, out of respect to the Schoolio thread, and everyone was a dick about it. ("Everyone" being mostly Erik.) Meanwhile, 95% of what is posted in Schoolio gets ignored. There's very little actual discussion. It's pretty much just a list of mini movie reviews.

There is a movie thread, we don't need another movie thread....we have a NFL thread, so I don't start Miami Dolphin threads. That's just how it is. I didn't make those rules.

try hitting up central phoenix for art galleries/venues to see some bands. get online and see if theres any shows going on. lots of good bars all over too- youre closest to scottsdale i guess, you can find something.

also maybe the phoenix art museum. and also the rennaisance fest is going on right now out near apache junction.

Ooh if you are going to be near Scottsdale Rd. and Shea I highly recommend a place called Wok Star. One side is a bar and the other is chinese food take out called Chop n' Wok it's all owned by the same people and in the middle is an outdoor patio where you can eat and drink. So i moved into a new place with a friend of mine a little over a month ago. about a week after moving in I started getting sick. Scratchy throat, itchy eyes and super congested. Seemed like it wasnt going away. I started to think i was allergic to something at the house. Maybe the cat, i didnt know though. Went to the doctor and they said i had bronchitis. Gave me some z-pak and sent me on my way. I was up in flagg for a few days snowboarding and taking my meds and i seemed to be alllllllll better. Until i got back home. about 3 more days at home and my sickness came back. Sunday night started coughing and couldnt stop. couldnt even lay down my chest was so tight and i was having a really tough time even breathing. I went to the ER and they said i was having an asthma attack. Very strange because i dont have asthma or any other health problems i know of. They gave me a breathing treatment and prednisone and i cleared right up..... So im pretty sure through my research online and talking to people there is mold in the house. All the syptoms seem to point to that. Its an older house. Im almost positive its mold. So now im searching for a new place. Nothing on craigslist. Im so tired of looking. Interesting. I would make sure first. I never had any allergy problems or asthma for 25 years in Chicago. Once I arrived in Phoenix I started to get allergies every single change of season for about 4 years or so.

I'm assuming my immune system has won the battle because I haven't had any issues for the past 5 years. It seems you should be able to verify something like this before you start internet diagnosing and moving and then finding out it had nothing to do with mold.

Just a thought, i'm not saying it isn't, just that you should be able to verify it first.

So tired of crashing at my friends places but i cant sleep in that house anymore i get sick everytime i go there. THIS BLOWS

NachoCat I used to work for a nonprofit that did home repair for low-income families. 90% of the mold you find in homes in AZ isn't harmful to homeowners. Of course the place you are living may fall into that 10% that is harmful but you want to get it checked out before you move.

Asbestos on the other hand...

Just got done eating at The Waters Edge resturaunt in Fountain Hills. It is no Mastros, Fish House, Mortons or Ruths Chris but it's a small establishment. It really felt like something out of Ramsys Kitchen Nightmares(minus the nightmare) or a small mom and pops fine dine.

Hopefully tomorrow I cab hit down town pheonix.

What area are you living in? I find that in the spring I have a really hard time with certain areas if it is when the orange blossoms are blooming. I get migraines and my asthma kicks in. But the only places I have problems are the northern gilbert/mesa area and then central phoenix where they had all the orange groves before putting all the houses in.

And Philthy Phils/Rips is in a more ghetto part of town than the Bikini, just sayin'...at least there's nothing going on at 16th St and Roeser, that's where you go to die.

of course, roo!!!

i'll take a stab at this...

i love the blunt club, which is not an actual club, but a weekly that is thrown at different clubs. they are on myspace & facebook i believe, but it's mainly hip-hop, dnb & dubstep.

i had fun the one time i went to cherry pit lounge on mill for UK thursdays. i knew people who were djing though and i can't speak to what it's like on other nights.

i have had fun at myst, though it's not for the people that's for sure. it's also expensive, but of all the scottsdale bullshit clubs, i have had the most fun here & at the pussycat lounge as well. axis/radius is douche central so only go if you REALLY want to see someone.

bar smith is a neat venue downtown & on saturdays they usually do "solstice", which is a house music weekly.

aura is a good psytrance monthly, add them on facebook. they usually do their events at hookah type lounges or places with middle-eastern food and tend to have things like belly dancers and the more "hippie" edm crowd.

if you are REALLY into the hipster scene you would probably have a blast at the rogue in south scottsdale. it's a tiny place, but lots of people swear by it. i just find a lot of the people obnoxious and the one time i went NO ONE was dancing and they were looking at us snobby like because we were dancing.

as far as concerts... the marquee theatre in tempe is the best place in MY opinion to see your average touring band. they won't house the HUGE arena type shows, but they tend to have a good mix of indie, edm and other types of bands. i personally HATE the dodge theatre as it sounds like there's a giant mute on the stage and it looks smaller than it is, but some people like it. the jobing.com & US airways arenas are both good for larger shows. avoid the clubhouse if you can, place is SHITTY. i've heard good things about the rhythm room, but i've unfortunately never been.

there are lots of dive type bars that will host weeklies or one-off events, so you have to make sure to keep an eye out for events on facebook or something.

*EDITED*

if you're into freak dancing like it ain't no thing and if you're a girl getting felt up all night, head out to the buzz nightclub at scottsdale & shea. i only went there once with some girls from work and i could tell multiple stories about that night for days. wall to wall bitches n' hoes!

devil's martini in north scottsdale is definitely the place to go if you like an older crowd who's interested in status from what i've gathered. i've never been, i just know a lot of people who have gone there or invited me there. it's kinda far for me too.

kazimierz in the old town area is fucking awesome if you can afford it. it's a wine bar, but they do have decent priced appetizers and nibbles. it's not a place to go for a full meal in my opinion. i've had a different experience there every time i went too which is rare. i've seen some serious flamenco dancers and various old jazz singers with completely different bands. i really like this place and whenever anyone asks me where they should take a date, i always suggest this place.

Glad to hear Little Dragon was a good show. Will have to check them out at Coachella. I was watching the Pacquaio/Clottey fight at my family's. Not quite as much fun but less expensive. And my sister appreciated my presence, what with it being her birthday and all.

NachoCat: glad you liked the pita pizza. Which one did you get? I always do the white pita pizza. I want to expand my menu options there but that thing is just so damn good, I can't resist.
Also, whenever I see your name as the last poster in this thread, I get a little song in my head, sung to the tune of the Village People's "Macho Man": "Nacho, NachoCat, I want to be a NachoCat." McCain is getting worried. He's got Palin to help him drum up support. I thought these two were at odds with a war of words over the past several months including her writing things in her book about the campaign. He's riding this Palin thing as far into the ground as he can I guess.

http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/2010/03/15/20100315palin-mccain-campaign-rally.html#comments

I guess he thinks if Palin can get the nut jobs then and this is the state with one of the biggest nutjob populations it couldn't hurt. I think it's gonna make it an even tighter race.

I used to have to deal with Hayworth all the time when I worked in TV. He used to bug me so much, even though he was perfectly nice. Since he had worked in TV too, he would always try to be helpful, like holding up something to white balance and wiring up his own mic. I remember having to sign for alcohol at a Fry's in Tucson a few years back, so it's definitely not something new. I've never had to do it here, and I usually don't even get carded anymore at the store by our house. Should probably be a worrisome sign.

i got this ID like 6 months ago when i moved. it's pristine.

it's retarded like tom said. one time i was bitching about the carding culture at a taco bell with a coworker and this guy joined our conversation. he was a former restaraunt owner who was sick of dealing with all the bullshit related to selling alcohol so he sold his restaurant.

i just don't get what needs to be done beyond asking for my ID. can we just say "if you drink this toxic shit, you're responsible for what happens" and be done with it???

i go to safeway yesterday, buy beer and now they want me to sign something too. she said it was a new state law. but on saturday, my girlfriend and i bought wine at a different frys without signing shit.

has anyone had this happen recently? There's four of us flying in from IND to PHX and I was planning on loading up a cooler with brewskis while in Phoenix/on the way to the campground, but if they're really serious about these new laws do you think they would give us grief for being from out-of-state and taking the "supplies" to a different state? Maybe I should wait until closer to Indio... unless this is just for some sort of odd consumer study, not any kind of restriction....

that question doesn't make any sense. how will they, in phoenix, know that you're planning on taking them to california?

TomAz

also you should know there is virtually nothing between Phoenix and Indio. Tonopah (pop 4070), Quartzsite (pop 3397) and Blythe (pop 16,092) are the only towns of any size for 240 miles.

Like we roll up to the counter with a case of beer each and they won't say "uh... why so much?"I guess I just don't know the full purpose of this new law and am just looking for clarification. Anything will help!

you don't need to tell the man nothin. show your id, pay your money, and keep your business to yourself.

besides i don't think there's anything against the law to transport alcohol across state lines as long as you are of age and it's for personal consumption

I just wanted to make sure there wasn't some weird crackdown going on, like transporting fireworks across state lines or whatever.

Now I'll slowly back away from this thread into the ether for now and leave you Phoenixicans alone. :)

Nothing wrong with a census. ...It's light years away from the government keeping track of which adults were buying which kind of alcohol.

Oh, so you haven't read the new form yet, I guess. You also have to rank your top 3 albums and tell which superhero you would be if you could.

and i hear census workers make pretty good money.

It's $15 an hour plus 50 cents a mile. I'm hoping I can get bumped to supervisor after the training, since I scored a 98% on their damn test. (All you needed was a 70% to get a job.)

kazimierz in the old town scottsdale area is fucking awesome if you can afford it. it's a wine bar, but they do have decent priced appetizers and nibbles. it's not a place to go for a full meal in my opinion. i've had a different experience there every time i went too which is rare. i've seen some serious flamenco dancers and various old jazz singers with completely different bands. i really like this place and whenever anyone asks me where they should take a date, i always suggest this place.

Get out of my head Ivy! I met a certain Jewish girl there last night for drinks. She wanted to meet somewhere in old Scottsdale so I went online and found out about this place. I almost didn't find it when I got there because it's hidden away from the main street. I started freaking out but by luck turned into the parking lot that is next to it and saw a sign for the place. Its almost set up like a speakeasy. There's one door in the back that you have to look for or you'll totally miss it. It was very nice and romantic. I'm looking forward to going back there.

I got summoned for jury duty again. I just went in October, and they told me there I wouldn't need to serve as a juror for any court for another 18 months. And of course I didn't save anything so I don't remember the court or judge to use that excuse to get out of this one. ugh. Also this notice says if I wasn't an "empaneled" juror, I have to serve for this one anyway. wtf?

I signed up online and entered the box that said I did jury in October but do not remember the court. After that, they sent out this letter that states "in order to be excused based on jury service in another court, you must have served as an empaneled trial juror that reached a verdict." This one makes it sound like I'm NOT excused since I went to jury duty and was dismissed that same day (the lawyers didn't like me for their trial). I distinctly remember the judge and lawyers saying that we would not have to serve as a juror again for 18 months. argh. Unless I'm misremembering and they said for THEIR court. Goddamnit.

mountmccabe
03-17-2010, 11:29 AM
I believe it is just THEIR court (i.e. whichever of City/County/State/Federal/International you were called for) unless you actually did the whole "empaneled trial juror that reached a verdict" thing.

Sorry to hear that!
