Last time (1st time) we went to Rose and Crown, I had just flown in from New Jersey and we waited, like, 45 minutes to get served a beer. In fact, the first 3 drinks Jen ordered, the waitress came back, looking more sheepish with each successive return, to inform her that what she had ordered was no longer available.

But if others are interested in that, sure, why not?

I agree that the table service is lacking, but if you go to the bar to order it is pretty quick.

I should not have mentioned G&D. It is a British pub! You're only s'posed to eat there if'n you're already drunks. And even then I'd only reccommend the fried appetizer foods.

Hmmmm...I actually enjoy the food there. Really like the Cornish pasties and the Shep's Pie. Also...their bread pudding is quite good.*

*Disclaimer...it has probably been a good 2-3 years since I have eaten there.

I also forgot to include the District on the list of places to check out. It's the restaurant in the Sheraton. I know, Sheraton, what is he thinking? But it's actually pretty cool, good food, and great beer on tap that isn't expensive. They have happy hour from 3pm-7pm and 10pm-close:

Call me crazy but my favorite album is Life and Times Vol. 3, play this on a good system, with some good ganja and it just doesn't get any better.

I appreciate Jay-Z more than any other rapper because he tells you exactly how he has gotten to where he is now. He doesn't say one thing and do another, he gives you a first hand account of life through his eyes. He came from the Marcy projects with literally nothing and made himself one of the richest men in the world, if you cant respect that then I don't know what to say.

I'm still on the fence on whether I want to see his set or not. I guess it will depend on what bands will be on the other stages...

Speaking of psi-trance that mutates into something else, my wife is all hyped for Aura on the 10th. She actually wrote it on the calender. (And yes, we have a paper calender.) Do people actually come in middle-eastern wear, or is it just a dance party with a theme? You don't have any light rail options near you? When i was taking the Rapid bus to DT phoenix I loved it. I would drive to the park and ride and then sit back and nap or listen to my ipod all the way into work, no stress with traffic at all. I imagine a light rail would be just as comfortable and convenient too.

amyzzz
03-04-2010, 03:35 PM
It's an hour each way, but on Tuesdays I'm driving 4 hours total because of choir. Light rail would take too long. We bought our house when it was the most expensive so we're underwater in it because the value has gone down so much. I like the house, and the neighborhood is ok-ish, it's just so damn far from work. We should've gotten an apartment I guess, but that seemed wrong at the time. I'm debating being a horrible person and just leaving the house and moving elsewhere and letting the damn thing foreclose.

John...I thought about going to Mike Watt. Now I'm really sorry. Was he ever in Wire? I must admit, I'm only familiar with the Enigma era "new wave" Wire, not the early punk stuff. "The Ideal Copy" is my favorite album, but I know it's not very representative of them.

Life were quite good. Had a Battles/Mono thing going on. Though, also, oddly, a fair amount of cheesy synths. They had great shirts, too. I should've gotten one.

The Television song was "Little Johnny Jewel," a Marquee Moon era b-side or some such.

Firehouse was a hair metal band that I really liked. They made quality bandanas they sold as merch and I still have my firehouse bandana from some 16 or so years ago, saw them open for Slaughter and Tesla here when I was 16.

Yes, that would be the exact moment they began to be unlistenable. I remember going to the BSSM tour just to see Nirvana, and they pretty much just played that album straight through. I hadn't even heard the album yet...I was so pissed.

Ticketmaster Confirms Conan O'Brien Show; Coco Nation Rejoices

It’s true! Conan O’Brien has cleared his busy schedule of Twitter brain trusts and dolphin meet and greets to perform a live show in April, fulfilling Megan Mullally’s prophecy that Coco will “have the last laugh”. TMZ broke the story an hour ago, with confirmation of one show from Ticketmaster.

While the Tickemaster page does not say what exactly the show will be, it says that the event will be held Friday, April 30 at Dodge Theatre in Phoenix, AZ. Tickets will go on sale on March 8 at 10:00 MST, with ticket prices ranging from $36.50 to $76.50.

As reported previously, a comedy tour is a clever way to skirt the clause in Conan’s exit deal from NBC which stipulated that the comedian could not appear on television before September. As of two weeks ago, Conan’s representatives at William Morris Endeavor were still trying to secure dates for the show. No other dates have been announced.

But this week, the guy says "We're playing this Saturday at 6pm opening for Cypress Hill." (Or at least that's what she thought he said.) And he gave her tickets, so she doesn't have an excuse not to go.

Turns out it's Sen Dog only (or whatever his name is), and these guys are 1st of 10 acts on the bill. And it's at the Clubhouse. I'm thinking we'll bail around 6:30. Ugh.

I saw the Elliots last night at Pranksters Too on Thomas and Hayden in Scottsdale. What a kick ass show they put on and it brought back a ton of memories. They played well over 2 hours and mixed in a few beatles covers but mostly originals. Kate Russo is fantastic on the electric violin. A good room for a good rock show. I wouldn't be opposed to seeing more decent local bands at that venue. It was cool seeing Walt Richardson out and about and introducing the band too. He's probably my favorite local legend.

Well, as I was saying, neither do I for the most part, and I was offering it as an example of a movie that didn't REQUIRE pot to enjoy.

However, it probably helps if you grew up in a small town...every detail about small town high school life is perfect in that movie. Also, even though you are only a couple of years younger than me, I have very vivid childhood memories of 1976, and the movie is so spot on.

And finally, I have been told 1000x that the Adam Goldberg character must have been based on me in my youth. (although I looked just like his buddy.)

Because right now, honestly, if I see one more episode of law and order I will lose it.

You do not need to be high to appreciate Half Baked, the movie you are referring to. Enhancement Smokers!!!

When I was younger the stoner movies in my mind were Eddie Murphy Delirious and Andrew Dice Clay's standup routine. I still like to watch those while high.

grandma's boy is DEFINITELY a stoner movie. any movie that has central characters as pot dealers and where old ladies "accidentally" get high can probably be classified as a stoner movie.

i loved dazed and confused, but i saw it in the theatres when i was 12. i wonder if i'd enjoy it AS much now. plus it was THE only movie my mom EVERY had a problem with me watching (and my parents took me to fucking disclosure people), so there's that whole rebellion thing as well. it's also one of the few movies where i actually enjoy a performance from ben affleck. that kid who grabs his nose the entire movie really brings the movie down a peg or two though, god, WHO CAST THAT IDIOT.

i find half baked to be kinda retarded. it reminds me of what you think getting high is going to be like when you're a kid.

I think all three Friday's are great, Mike Epps was a great replacement. Just as good if not better than Chris Tucker, imo.

I must not be black enough to appreciate Friday. Or the rest of you have some serious white guilt issues. All I know is, Jen talked it up as though it were the second coming of Cheech & Chong and quoted the dad at least once a week for a year, then we actually watched the movie (which she bought on DVD for $5), pouring ourselves some drinks and being in the mood to laugh, and... crickets. There were some chuckles maybe, more like polite smirks, but it was so mind-numbingly inane that I couldn't believe it actually launched F Gary Gray's career.

Pineapple Express is the new weed movie apparently, I have tried watching it and can't seem to enjoy it but Nick laughs through the entire thing. I just think my sense of humor is broken or something. Although I did laugh for the entire Hangover movie.

I didn't think Pineapple Express was that funny. In fact I would call that a disapointing movie.

I thought the dealer played by James Franco and the next level dealer played by the guy in Eastbound and Down were quite funny in Pineapple Express. The main character played by Seth Rogen, not so much.

I found the Hangover to be really funny. I didn't hear many reviews before I saw it though. I had a lot of laugh out loud moments and what impressed me the most was the fact they were able to give a refreshing new spin on the whole bachelor party in Vegas idea. I could have easily dismissed this movie as a rehash of movies like Go or Very Bad Things or a number of others but I thought this movie was full of funny. Probably the funniest movie I saw last year. I can't think of anything else that good and it certainly wasn't any of the 756 Seth Rogan movies that came out.

I find the movie thread to be more pretentious than not. I go there to get ideas for movies to watch but shit gets dissected hardcore in that thread. The last thing anyone should do is go in that thread and start up this conversation.

Nope, The Hangover was way more overrated. I remember hearing so many dummies claim that The Hangover was one of the best movies ever made. Not one of the best comedies ever made... one of the best MOVIES ever made.

Agreed. And you can't dare start ANOTHER movie thread. I tried to start one once specifically about shitty movies, out of respect to the Schoolio thread, and everyone was a dick about it. ("Everyone" being mostly Erik.) Meanwhile, 95% of what is posted in Schoolio gets ignored. There's very little actual discussion. It's pretty much just a list of mini movie reviews.

There's one on Camelback and there's a combo Trails/Castle Boutique a few blocks away.

There is a place in Flagstaff called Ruffs Guns that is actually mostly a liquor store.

Yeah, I couldn't believe it. However, these were the same people who thought Transformers was a good movie.
