they will. the chick starts off the lesson with basic hula hooping. i was never great it at either. i always try to make a circular motion with my hips. but when you're starting out, it's easier to just thrust forward & back OR side to side. i kept picturing the kid in huddsucker proxy that first tried the hula hoop and that worked for me. then from there she teaches you how to try to push back on the hoop with your body everytime it touches you. she also shows you how to "save" the hoop without touching it. then she goes into all the grabs and walking around, but i couldn't stay for all that and had to leave. and she decorates hoops with colourful tape that you can buy; i know amy bought one. the coolest thing of all is that the chick is an electrical engineer or something like that by day.

and micah, sounds good, i'm just teasing :p also, my girlfriend amy is prolly going to come with us. you two will get along if you haven't met already!

Sanctum is an awesome club. Been there twice. once on a friday and once on a saturday. It is not goth on these nights. Amazing club. the decor is amazing-unlike anything i have ever seen. The sound is very, very loud there. dj's were good both times i was there. The crowd is very, very gay friendly. got some good lesbian make out shows while we were there. I will defintely go back if there was a dj there that i wanted to hear. i think we paid about 10 bucks each time we went and that was around 11. it is pretty dead there until about midnight. i don't know if it is free before a certain time or not.

Went there a couple weeks ago on a tuesday. It was ok i guess. The place def has a dark goth look/feel to it. A lot of gay's (not that there is anything wrong with that) but it wasnt my scene really. not snooty at all. it is a gay crowd mixed with the downtown artsy people. everyone we talked to was nice (or on something). could probably wear shorts and they would let you. it has a goth "feel" to it but on weekends it is straight up dance music. trance and house mostly. i think the owner spent over a million on the decor. do a google search for club sanctum. there are some cool articles on it. the owner actually the first real dance club in phoenix called "the works". he also owns amsterdam, palazzo, and some others.

I will check that out too, but I'm looking more for the atmosphere than an actual "Goth night". (Though next time I'm looking for a place to go on Wednesday, I'll check Sanctum's goth night.)

EDIT Club Palazzo's website is dead, but it and Tranzylvania is still listed as active on the New Times site. Kinda itching to hear some Skinny Puppy now.

I burn this stuff daily.... It goes by many brands.. the most popular is "spice" But I ussually buy wicked or ninja aroma. The synthetic chemical is called

jwh-018. Yes its around 25 bucks a gram but if you buy 5 grams of ninja aroma its 60 bucks. Very worth it i think. Its better than schwag and it doesnt show up on a drug test. Plus its completely legal. For now.

Similar to me and Jason driving to S.F. to see FNM on Tues. and Wed, then driving to Coachella for the weekend.

PNW crowds will be better than an L.A. crowd as well.

The ArtLink website is saying that Phoenix First Fridays is the largest self-guided art walk. The only reason I could maybe believe that is that it's actually near a reasonable temperature for it year round here and they're counting cumulative numbers or something.

At any rate the March one is one of the biggest ones because it is the (unofficial) start of Art Detour - which runs this weekend - and because it is often one of the best days, temperature-wise. The first week of March sees highs around 75. April (low 80s) and May (high 80s) are also reasonable.

Also I would likely be down for meeting up for First Friday.

check out the blunt club, which i suggested when you asked about clubs. it's at the yucca tap room now. you'll get some dnb there. we used to have wednesday/thursday night weeklies at the sky lounge, but those days are long gone :(

you might get a little bit of dnb at fuse (which is an event held at bar smith downtown) as well as at UK thursdays, but not much.

No. The definition of "nearby" I am using is "within easy walking distance of Roosevelt and 3rd St." And the definition of "table" I'm using is "place to eat within a reasonably structured eating establishment."

I'm not sure if any of you saw The Elliots when they were a band in Tempe. They played some shows opening for some bigger acts and headlining some bars. Kate Russo really rocks the electric violin and I used to love seeing them play afternoons in Jerome at the Spirit Room. The Elliots are heavily influenced by the Beatles and have a song called Elliot Road as well. They have since broke up and moved northeast but they are getting back together for a show this weekend.

They have some songs randomized on their myspace.

You can skip forward through songs, I really like their version of Here Comes the Sun.

This Saturday, Mar 7 2010 4:00P Pranksters Too - in The Jester Room Scottsdale, Arizona.

Should be a fun late afternoon show.

They kinda blend right in with the color of the car. I like the shorts. You should wear a pair similiar at Coachella.

Arizona is getting tough on seat belt laws. We are one of two states to get grant money to start cracking down on these criminals. This story came out yesterday.

http://www.azfamily.com/news/local/Click-It-or-Ticket-Crackdown-on-seat-belt-use-kicks-off-today-85809602.html

Today the senate has decided to shoot down a bill that would ban texting while driving.

Be careful out on the roads folks.

hooray for requiring seatbelts & for not passing superfluous laws like banning texting while driving. we already have a reckless driving law that covers it.

Exactly. This gives the cops the authority to pull over anyone at any time. Now not only do mexicans have to worry but everyone else does too.

ok, that is lame. i didn't read the article. that being said, the only "checkpoints" i've ever been stopped at were leaving desert raves. i've never been stopped at a DUI checkpoint or anything like that.

I liked this post in the comments section.

Sounds like Maricopa & Pima County 'law' enforcement agencies participating in the National 'Click It or Ticket" program either didn't bother to read or don't care what State law says on this subject. ARS 28-909(C) specifically prohibits 'law' enforcement officers from stopping or issuing a citation to an individual for failing to wear a seatbelt unless the officer has reasonable cause to believe another violation of state law has occurred: "28-909(C): A peace officer shall not stop or issue a citation to a person operating a motor vehicle on a highway in this state for a violation of this section unless the peace officer has reasonable cause to believe there is another alleged violation of a motor vehicle law of this state." Anyone experiencing such lawbreaking by law enforcement officers should report the crime to their nearest civil rights attorney & help relieve the agency of its share of the $600,000 bribe it's received from the GOHS for participating in the program.

After a concert at Red Rocks last year I was shocked to learn they shut down the entire highway for DUI check points. A four lane highway, halted for random DUI checks. What happened to our civil liberties in this country? Nothing better than sitting in traffic at midnight on a weekend.

The Lost Leaf is a cool place. They have a great selection of bottle beer and wine (all on the pricey side) but they do not have food. Though maybe y'all were moving past the idea of eating.

905 is a good place on 4th just south of Roosevelt but it's pricier than Carly's and it'll be just as crowded and less likely to be good with a larger party.

My Florist Cafe is at like 6th Av and McDowell and is great but quite a bit more expensive and more fancy pantsy.

El Norteno is the place I alluded to in the "table" bit; it is at 7th Ave and Roosevelt and it is a great hole in the wall Mexican place. I have never had a problem with the food there but also I am not ascared of such places. They do not have inside seating; they also do not have alcohol, which is probably a bigger deal.

Matt's Big Breakfast is at 1st St and McKinley and is great but also a breakfast place so not applicable.

Pasta Bar is at 1st St and Pierce and is tasty but is also on the pricey side.

If folks don't mind going a few miles away there's always Pizza Heaven or Ticoz (hahah, jerks) or somewhere like George & Dragon (upside: great beer/Scotch, close to the light rail, downside: shitty food) or Honey Bears (do they sell beer? If yes I'd guess it'd just be bottled domestics but it's been a while) or places like Lola Tapas or Fez. Mmm.

If we want a casual place that's right in the middle of everything and has cheap beer specials and also other beer that's better and a good selection of food then it is Carly's.

I was curious about that too. It sucks when you have to use Urban Dictionary to get the joke and then the joke isn't even that funny. Like, is T above Tom's head because his name is Tom? Does Tom get to choose been A, B, C and D?

SIGH...it was just this stupid bit going on in the Post Your Picture thread.

I will admit that, as parody goes, it was more of the Scary Movie 4 variety, where you just do the same thing as the original and that's somehow supposed to be funny. I normally shoot a little higher. I have shamed myself.

Nah, the original convo was much funnier, which is another sign of bad parody. Go back like 8 or 9 pages on Post Your Picture. There was some gold in there today.

If you are going to go to a place like George and Dragon you may as well just hit the Rose and Crown at Heritage Square and you'll still be in reasonable walking distance of 1st Friday action, just not Carly's close. You will be able to find a place to sit pretty easy there. It's directly across from Pizzeria Bianco.

Last time (1st time) we went to Rose and Crown, I had just flown in from New Jersey and we waited, like, 45 minutes to get served a beer. In fact, the first 3 drinks Jen ordered, the waitress came back, looking more sheepish with each successive return, to inform her that what she had ordered was no longer available.

But if others are interested in that, sure, why not?
