aura is a good psytrance monthly, add them on facebook. they usually do their events at hookah type lounges or places with middle-eastern food and tend to have things like belly dancers and the more "hippie" edm crowd.

The first time I saw him dj at Rogue, it was very good, but that was about 3 years ago at the peak of Rogue's heyday, when Shake! was still going strong.

I saw him again a year or two back, it wasn't as exciting.

A good mix of the Indie of today and yesteryear...alot of good UK stuff...it's worth checking out, if it's the right crowd then it should be good.

Ok, I'm getting a denial from Jen, and a maybe from Rick. What's up, guys? :)

Sounds like a no. The announcement yesterday was one of the lone bright spots in the shit of a day I had, and when I thought of the possibility of Massive Attack, LCD Soundsystem, and Simian Mobile Disco all playing on the same day, I thought that would be enough to entice Jen to attend. But after mulling it over, Jen reminded me that we resolved to not travel anywhere near as much this year for shows as we did last year, and we already committed to the Chemical Brothers in LA. (Which is a different situation since: a) I've never seen a live Chems show and they're in my top 20; b) it's in LA, where we have friends who can let us stay at their house, thereby saving us the cost of a hotel room; and c) it's on a Saturday and won't take up vacation time, of which Jen apparently doesn't have very much.) The trip to Seattle would require renting a car, two nights in a hotel, and a vacation day.
The biggest draw for me is Massive Attack. If they're headlining Sasquatch, they're doing a major US tour. (Hell, hasn't it been said they're touring the US anyway?) They came here in '06 so fingers are crossed they'll come again. And if not, they'll play somewhere close in California and we can try to make that trip. Or I can do it solo to reward myself for the 10-hour days I'm still fucking pulling at work. LCD will be seen at Coachella (and hopefully the Marquee if they end up doing a proper tour and visit Arizona) and SMD isn't so important an act to me that I need to go out of my way to see them.

So, sorry, Amy.

Rick, why did you send me an email for viagra?

Thought you needed it. Wasn't that what you were complaining about the other night or is ED an acronym for something else?

Marc-- Jacob and I went to Aura last month, and it was a lot of fun. They played Psy Goa early on, and more upbeat House later on (Madonna's Ray of Light was mixed in, lol). Lots of crazy art and lights were set up in the belly-dancing studio and a bunch of lit-up hula loops were available for anyone to use (I think). They don't serve alcohol though, only soft drinks. When we were there, the promoter was complaining that there weren't enough people, but it looked like a good crowd to me and the vibe was great -- lots of people dancing. And they have a stage to the side set up with low table and pillows to relax on, and you can smoke the hookahs over there.

That sounds like a great scene for us, Amy. No alcohol is cool...we don't always drink when we go out, and Tree is sneaky with a flask if we're in the mood. Actually, her favorite drink is rum & root beer, but most bars don't have root beer, so that might be perfect.

A question for the ladies... I'm being set up on a Jewish blind date. I was thinking of taking this nice girl to dinner at like Pita Jungle or Cafe Boa in Tempe and then walking around Mill ave afterword (people watching, drinks, dessert, clubs, etc). Does this sound like a good idea or does it sound boring? If you were being taken out on a blind date for the first time would have a suggestion on what to do or where to go?

Not that I'm a lady, but...sounds fine...you just want to make sure the volume level in your dinner location is low enough that you can talk. Facing a stranger and trying to eat while it's too loud to talk is a recipe for a big bowl of awkward soup. The walking around is good, because you can keep talking and you aren't locked into one thing.

So, how do you know she's nice? Have fun...

She doesn't care about flowers unless she grew them, and then I'm sure as hell not allowed to pick them. I think she bought ME flowers in 1995.

i think it depends on the terminal. there is one bar/restaurant i don't like in one of the terminals where they always ignore me. the fox news/sports one is obnoxious, but yet entertaining to watch the guys hit on the waitresses. the chili's waiters are very flirty. that is all i have to report lol.

Hey there Phoenix! I was in your airport once. You've probably got the best airport bars on the west coast. Chilly and dark. That is all.

sorry

i don't understand ivy's complaint.

it's not a major complaint.

but i hate how many of the restaurant/bars are located in terminals. it's good because you can eat/drink AFTER you go through security, but it's bad because you have a limited selection at the terminal. i wish there was a way to have all the restaurant/bar options available to you after you go through security is all. generally i always end up in the fox news/sports terminal. i'm too afraid of getting delayed in security if i eat BEFORE going through security in the general food court area.

oh, they should just move security. but there's no room.

Bud Luster

i hate how you're limited to your terminal. i mean, you can eat/drink outside your terminal, but then you feel pressed for time to get through security.

yup, we didnt have long and this bar was really really close to the boarding gate.

Phoenix isn't really the west coast....

We'll just say best in the Western US then. You all need bragging rights for something I suppose.

sorry

Dont be. It added about 2 hours to my travel time, but saved me like a $120. Which, at the time, I was apparently desperate to give to retarded dancers instead.

Paul McCartney will open his upcoming "Up And Coming" tour at Glendale's Jobing.com Arena. The former Beatle will play a show at the hockey arena on Sunday, March 28.

The news, which was officially announced at a press conference this afternoon, was hinted at by Danny Zelisko at Saturday night's Mariah Carey show at Dodge Theatre.

Mac's tour will also take him to the Hollywood Bowl and Mexico.

A coworker of mine excitedly told me about the Paul McCartney show this morning. She was the one who got jealous of me attending Coachella last year. She'll be there; I'll be at WrestleMania with my dad. If any McCartney-going beatniks try to talk smack, I'm going to have to crack their skulls. (I'm looking at YOU, Bogaloo.)

Let Me Roll It (with a coda of Purple Haze) / Honey Hush / Highway / The Long and Winding Road / My Love / Blackbird / Here Today / Dance Tonight / Calico Skies / Mrs. Vanderbilt

... so a whole pile of songs I had no interest in hearing with "Blackbird" sandwiched in the middle which glued me to the stage.

Honestly seeing "Blackbird" made up for how dull the other hour I saw was so I can understand how y'all that saw the whole thing can remember it being a good set.

But I have no regrets on leaving when I did. Other than that I probably should've left a couple songs earlier. Though, really, it is possible that I did. Of those other songs I only remember "Honey Hush" and "the Long and Winding Road."

It's the golf tournament and it's always a great time, I was going to direct the question at Tom, I clearly should have.

Fun Fact: I was on the 16th green and saw Tiger Woods hit a hole in one.

(I gave him the obligatory fist bump later on that night at Babe's Cabaret)

Well, there's that Bird's Nest thing with the shitty bands. I'd heard people network and skank it up there.

I don't give two shits about golf. but the Phoenix Open is a fun party. I have Friday passes but undecided if I am going to go.

Are there any places with large gatherings of non-skanks? Where do the scholarly chicks whore it up?

I need a library with a bar. I smell a business opportunity.

In Flagstaff, when you scope someone out, it involves wondering what they have going on under their knit hat. I like a little mystery.

The library is quality college girls who don't want to make the leap to stripping just yet so they figured they would test the waters at this 'good time' establishment.

Though it is certainly hard to argue that these girls aren't skanky...
