Jason will be at Bassnectar, he's their hypeman.

I flew by a cop the other day on 16th heading south towards baseline going 60 in a 40. He pulled out and got right behind me and then he changed lanes and sped past me. My record of not being pulled over since moving to Arizona still stands. It's been over 9 years now.

The cops still have radar guns on the side of the road though. I have noticed on my way to work there is a cop that sits on 7th St. just south of the I-17/60 overpass. That's the first cop i've seen with a radar gun in ages.

None of this addressed your question about cops on the highway though.

Thanks for the info though

wow that show was great tonight.

blistering set from sonic youth.

mountmccabe
01-06-2010, 05:43 AM
I enjoyed their set quite a bit but damn, the setlist could've been something else.

11 of the 12 songs from The Eternal in the main set, along with "Silver Rocket" and "Schizophrenia." The encores were a "Sprawl" & "Cross the Breeze" and then "Shadow" & "White Cross."

1 from Evol, two from Sister, three from Daydream Nation and 11 from The Eternal. Nothing at all from 1990-2008. Bizarre.

Sounded fantastic for the most part, though.

The Eternal must be a damn good album overall! I barely knew anything other than the Daydream stuff, but I think I only briefly lost interest once. I just assumed they were playing a good mix from the last 3 or 4 albums (none of which I have heard.)

A couple of times, I was just in awe of how powerful they still are. I feel bad for missing them so many times over the years.

Good to meet you Mark, Tomas, Micah, and whoever the tall guy with the black hair was. (sorry), and good to see you again, John.

yep, poured water into glass. used the absinthe spoon that came with it to put the sugar cube on it, pour absinthe over, then light cube and melt/carmalize it down into the drink like the instructions with mine said...it was still way too strong for me to drink enough to feel it...

Most likely. Tom is going to be happy. That venue is pretty inside, I saw Beck there. It's entirely seated though so don't expect to "rock out". In fact, one guy got kicked out for drumming his hands on the stage and if I recall correct Beck encouraged it. That place usually has theater performances.

A fasciculation [fə.ˌsɪk.ju.ˈleɪ.ʃən] (or "muscle twitch") is a small, local, involuntary muscle contraction (twitching) visible under the skin arising from the spontaneous discharge of a bundle of skeletal muscle fibers. Fasciculations have a variety of causes, the majority of which are benign, but can also be due to disease of the motor neurons.

Indian Bend = card room = that's where I'll be.

I've came up the last couple times there playing the 5-500 game.

Quick bad beat story - I buy in for $250, build it up to around 8-hundo, get dealt pockets 10s. Flop comes 7-10-7. Flop gets checked, turn card is a blank, dude bets out, I raise him, he comes over the top and goes all in for about 650 total. I call, he flips over pockets 7s, I miss the case 10 on the river for the bad beat jackpot. i get pissed.

I then went and played 1-2 and came up on the night so it wasnt that bad. Still though, there was about 1600 in that pot when all was said and done. Never have I won money at the casino and still felt like I had lost.

dlo had a full house on the flop, but the other dude had 4 of a kind and slow played it...if dlo had gotten the case 10 (last 10 in the deck) he woulda had a higher 4 of a kind and won...but not so lucky.

Dylan flopped a full boat and thought he was golden, not realizing the other guy flopped quad sevens. If the river had been the last 10 he would have won. And even though he left with more money he showed up with he still is sore that he lost all that cash on one hand that in most other circumstances he would have won with.

You can live in the hood like me. I'm at 48th st and baseline in a giant ole complex. Just yesterday my roommate was checking the mail and a guy pulled up in a van asking him if he knew anyone selling percocets. The place i'm at must also have subsidized housing and they give employee discounts. I save 10% because I work for the county. I know they have an e-telecare discount as well.

They are Brookstone at the Foothills. Definitely not the safest place in the world but there are a lot of kids around too so it isn't that bad. I rather enjoy it. It's one of the few places in Phoenix I have found a lot of people of color. I go crazy if all I see is white.

D$, explain to me the 5-500 game please. I may be interested in joining you tomorrow evening.

Some law only allows a max bet of $500 for all table games in AZ. 5-500 is essentially the closest you can get to playing NLH here in AZ. $5 is least you can bet at any time and $500 is the most you can bet. It should be noted that if somebody bet $500 and you had enough in front of you, you could raise another $500 and so on. It's the max bet.

There are three different 5-500 at Casino AZ, each with different blind levels which general dictates the average buy-in to the game.

There's 1-2, average buy-in about $100, max buy in $300.

3-5, average buy in $300, max $500.

5-10, average $600, max $1000 (I think)

The 1-2 game is what I moved to after my bad beat. Pretty cool game, like most, the amount of action depends quite a bit on your particular table. However, with the blinds being only 1 and 2 dollars it was actually cheaper than a 3-6 game. You can see several flops for $2. The problem is when you do pick up a good hand there's a fine line on how much to raise while still keeping people in the hand. Normal raise would probably be $7-10 with $15-20 being considered a huge raise.

locachica73

I would like to start hiking every weekend. As of now I don't exercise at all but i've starting eating better and am getting loads of energy. I've pretty much only hiked South Mountain, Piestawa Peak and Camelback Mtn, then the grand canyon when I was younger and some short trails in Sedona. One trail a week is very doable, so I think I might have to start this weekend at some point.

Day after Coachella. I will be seeing them at Coachella, and not the Rhythm Room.

I would think Grizzly Bear would be able to headline their show at somewhere the size of the Rhythm Room. I saw that at P4k too but it doesn't make much sense as a reality.

I would think by now Grizzly Bear would play Marquee. Didn't they headline at The Wiltern?

mountmccabe
01-12-2010, 10:05 PM
Yeah, they played (and sold out?) the Wiltern which holds 2200 or so but that is LA. I don't know that they could draw enough in Phoenix to play a 1500 cap joint.

If they played the Rhythm Room it'd probably sell out quick; if they played the Clubhouse it'd probably sell out but only like the weekend before.

Hopefully we'll get a chance to see!

I still say they are Coachella bound.

If anyone is bored on Saturday night the local cover band I use to follow around quite regularly is going to be down in Mesa at Salty Senioritas. I haven't been down there in quite some time so I made a play date with my girl Lisa. The cover band's name is Nineball, they have a male and female singer so they cover quite a wide range of songs, a lot of them current but some throwbacks to the 80's and 90's. He even covers Tool, which makes me happy. :)

If interested you can go here: http://www.martylucas.com/nineball.cfm to see a list of songs they cover.

Their shirts frighten me. I wish it was Friday or tonight. Whole lotta nothing on my calendar those days.

Although I do love the table guacamole. It's very tasty.

And $2 pacificos are a great draw for the poor. lol

I suspect the coke is the same there as elsewhere.

I do remember that they have good chips.

I don't like the food at Dos Gringos either.

locachica73
01-13-2010, 10:37 AM
I don't really care for either place and wouldn't be going there if Nineball wasn't there. Both places tend to have a younger college crowd, at least the ones I have been to in Scottsdale and Tempe, I have only been to the Mesa one once for Sunday bloody marys.

But Marty is a hottie and I have a crush, so I am going to gaze longingly and dance my ass off. :)

Good chips & guac is a start.

I remember going to one kitschy frat-boy mexican place in Mesa, but I can't remember what it was called -- might have been Dos Gringos. Food was bland.

ahh, beach house is awesome live, the rhythm room would be the perfect place to see them too, but then again, solar culture was a great place to see them as well, with Old Time Relijun
