New DPS Speed Cameras

DPS has rolled out mobile cameras
throughout the state, and they're now starting to put up stationary
cameras too.

The first nine will be up and running by October 22nd (they're starred below). The other locations will follow.

When finished, there will be a total of 60 stationary cameras and 40 mobile ones throughout Arizona. If you get a ticket for going 10 miles over the speed limit, you'll pay $181.

I should go up north. I'm having a completely fucked last week. Friend dying, car jacking in my apartment parking lot that was failed but still got someone shot, got rid of cable and last night a call from someone I did NOT want a fucking call from telling me things I did NOT want to hear. I'm so fucking sick of empathy at this point or is it the sympathy, fuck it, it's both. Things need to change drastically and soon, I'm fairly miserable at this point.

Sedona and Flagstaff sure sound nice. Especially this time of year.

There was one on I-10 west-bound at 7th St too. I saw it today, but not sure if it is running yet.

Speed cameras make me so sad. Why can't there be more mass-transit and more stringent testing for drivers' licenses (and possibly higher fees), so that there are less drivers and drivers are SAFER and don't have to be subject to this Fascist state of affairs? *sigh*

FUCK THE FUCKING SPEED CAMERAS.

It's been beautiful for the last week, but it's cold and windy today.

If anyone wants to see the leaves change, they will probably be gone soon. Come this weekend. I was on the peaks about 10 days ago and the color was awesome.

I'm lucky I've been driving slower to work to save on gas. Anyone know what MPH triggers the camera? I tend to drive around 70. :o

the ones on the 101 in the east valley are set to 11 over, so 76 mph.

I gotta drive by cameras every day. There's a set on Shea just west of 124th. Then there's two pair in each direction on the 101 between Shea and Hayden. You get used to them after a while. They do work though, traffic on that part of Shea is a lot slower than it used to be.

I drive on the 101 all the time, I have received 3 of those stupid speeding tickets. Now I use my cruise control all the time when on the 101.

From my driving on the 101 (not as frequent as yours and more often towards the end of rush hour, I'll admit) how it seems to me is that the speed cameras just slow down the general flow of traffic right before/after them. People drive 85 until just before the camera, remember and slam on their brakes to slow down, drive 60 for bit until they gradually speed back up to 85. And then the cycle repeats.

It took you getting 3 speeding tickets till you figured out you ought to slow the fuck down?

Traffic here really fucking sucks. I spend an hour on the road in the morning going to work and an hour on the road in the afternoon coming home. And there have been accidents the last two days. (Yesterday's was pretty cool in that the SUV had flipped over and was on its side facing west when it had been going east. Well, "cool" may not be the appropriate word, but you get my gist.) The only good thing about traffic being so shitty from about 2 miles east of the tunnel on to Avondale Blvd is that I'm guaranteed never to get a speeding ticket from those cameras since my max speed on the way home is about 35 mph.

locachica73
10-23-2008, 01:36 AM
it is hard to adjust when on every other freeway if your not doing at least 90 you are going to get beat down by others... then suddenly you are on a freeway with cameras and you have to remember to put on your cruise control. but now i have learned.... cruise control set at 75, that way you won't get a ticket and still keep up with traffic.

I just got a red light ticket at Thunderbird & 75th Ave.
I heard if you do not pay, then they have 3 chances to serve you.
If they do not find you in those 3 tries, then the ticket gets dropped.

Is this true?

Actually no, they were about a year apart. The first one wasn't on the 101 it was on Glendale Ave (or whatever Glendale turns into in Scottsdale). I was on my way to the bar with a whiney ass bitch in my car so I was trying to hurry before I kicked her ass. Then I got one on the 101 when they first went in and I was always really careful about not speeding after that or I just avoided the 101. Then they took the cameras down for awhile and I got in the habit of taking it again. Apparently I didn't get the email when they went back up again and I was on my way home from my friends house and BAM my third.

I paid the first 2, then my friend got one and he never paid it and it didn't show up on his insurance and nothing ever came of it so I haven't paid the 3rd. It happened about 6 months ago and still no word. hmmmmm

And yes I know I have a lead foot. I typically drive 75-80 but honestly I always keep up with traffic. People out here don't know what a speed limit is.

Just got back from the Faint. They were fucking AWESOME! OMG, what a fucking dance party. I didn't have any of their albums beforehand but picked up Danse Macabre afterward. Put them in the Sahara tent next year and watch the place blow up. So, so glad I went.
Met up with Tom (westcoastpirate, not TomAZ) and shared some beers with him. Dude, thanks again. We'll have to do the O'Bombers another time. Despite her claims otherwise, captncrzy did not attend, much to her own misfortune. I wasn't keeping an eye out for you, Amy. Were you there? Shame on you if not, you missed out on a great time.

Oh yeah, and Halloween was last night. We started off at Los Dos Molinos with John (mountmccabe) before hitting up the Bikini Lounge. Hung out with Mark (faxman) and Dylan (Mr. Dylanja, surprisingly enough). Can't wait for John to post some pics from the evening so that remarks can be made about the costumes worn.
Dylan, I thought about it afterward and when you got to the bar, you should've started blowing your whistle obnoxiously and waving your arms at us as though you were calling us for a foul. I'd've loled. (Or is it lol'd?) Hope your party was bangin'.

Everyone who was hungover at some point this weekend, raise your hands. *Rick's hands are raised* Fucking Fry's, they apparently close at midnight, or at least the location by our house does. I wanted some alcohol to cap this evening off properly. Maybe it'll be for the best that they couldn't satiate my ravenous thirst. Tomorrow doesn't need to be spent with my head in a fog.

I voted yes on the payday loan one. WHen I was counseling, I used to have people come in with thousands of dollars in payday loan debt that they couldn't get out of. The interest rate on those-if you renew them-can go upwards of 300%. If credit cards were running at a 300% APR...well, just imagine. They need more regulation if they're going to continue to exist.

Terry Goddard, Attorney general say:

Written by the payday loan industry's lobbyists and lawyers, this act would create an indefinite, voter-protected mandate for interest rates of 391 percent or more on small-dollar consumer loans.

Arizona law places a 36 percent usury cap on consumer loans. For the past eight years, payday lenders have used an exemption to exploit Arizona consumers. If a majority votes no on this initiative, that exemption will expire on July 1, 2010. If it passes, the exemption becomes permanent.

Everything i'm reading about the bill says charging people 391% interest will become state law and mandated.

I think i'm against this.

It's tough though. You read the proposition and it's confusing, then you read the opposing viewpoints and it's so slanted that you don't know what to do. This is why i'm trying to study. Tonight I will look over the rest. I also don't know about any of the people running. Bob Lord is runing for something and he was an attorney at a law firm I worked at. It would be silly to vote for him based on that and that's exactly how I would have voted in previous elections but it's time for me to be super informed on things.

mountmccabe
11-03-2008, 08:39 AM
I am voting no on all Arizona propositions.

The only one I might change my mind about is the one about giving the state legislators a raise. They have been asking for a 50% raise ($24k to $36k) for years now and they finally have gone for something more modest, to only $30k. So I kind of want to vote yes to reward the fact that they're being more reasonable now. Only problem is with the state budget as it is I don't know that it's a good time to ask for a raise.

I agree with the thoughts from Sean and Mark on Prop 200. The Pay Day Loan industry should be reformed and better regulated but Prop 200 is not much of a reform and it makes it harder to do anything further and extends their contract. As it stands the all Pay Day Loan places in AZ will be out of business July 1, 2010 so I don't think we need to accept a half-assed reform.

Prop 105 is the other really sneaky one. It makes it so propositions that increase taxes or government spending have to be approved by a majority of registered voters rather than a majority of people that actually bother to vote. Due to low voter turnout (etc) no proposition at all in the past 10 years has passed with a majority of registered voters. So what 105 effectively does is shut down the initiative process as a way of raising taxes or government spending. I like the initiative process (even if I usually end up voting against everything) so I am voting no.

I really hope 102 (Constitutional ammendment on marriage) fails.

OK, I gotta get back to work. As I said, I'm voting no on everything. Hopefully later I'll be able to talk more about the others, if there is interest and/or opposing viewpoints.

Bob Lord is up against John Shadegg for a seat in the House in my district. I used to like Shadegg but that's because he used to be an actual principled fiscal conservative rather than just another Republican.

I should find out more about Bob Lord, though.

One of the things I look at (or try to) is who's backing it.

I voted yes on 100 because of the property tax issue, but also because of the proponents of it (AZ farmers, the AZ Chamber of Commerce).

No on 101 because 1) I don't really understand it and 2) Janet is against it; good enough for me.

No on 102 becuase it's just fucking stupid

No on 105 for the same reason; basically saying if a registered voter doesn't show up to vote, that counts as a no. Nothing will ever get done.

I don't remember voting on 201...

Voted no on 202

Voted yes on 300; geez, high school kids make $24 a year.

I looked at my voters card and it says high school dist. #213. The big issue about my district should be crime. We had a carjacking in our apt. complex a couple weeks ago that resulted in a pizza guy getting shot but escaping. There are always sirens and choppers in my 'hood'. Go to the Secretary of State's website on Polling Places (http://www.azsos.gov/election/polling_places.htm).

Pick your county. That'll take you to the county website (I think) and there you enter in your address. It'll give you the address and a map of your polling place. It will also let you look at and print a sample ballot.

I got to hold one of my coworkers hair back for her while she puked, then somehow ended up feeling her fake breasts. Told some skinny broad in her dirty naughty whore costume that she needed to eat a sandwich, at which point she told me her boyfriend wouldn't let her, then my friend Beth and I both ended up kissing one of our owners reps and his girlfriend, then the rest of the night sang I kissed a girl and I liked it... she was fuckin smokin hot though so its all good. chairmenmeow47
11-03-2008, 01:54 PM
you will definitely find more older people at wonder than at the clix party based purely on the promoters. wonder is thrown by more established promoters and this is the 5th incarnation of this party. the wonder promoters also generally try to do more to keep it "legal". i have not been to this venue before. and yeah, they generally go till about 4 these days, give or take. and if you decide to get presale, it will be cheaper to pay with cash. there's also a wide variety of music: hardcore, breaks, dnb, trance (well, if citrik still plays trance). you can expect mainly dnb and hardcore though.

faxman75
11-03-2008, 02:06 PM
I mostly like harcore and I have been told by malcolmjamalawesome that trance is dead, though that is 2nd hand information through Dave Wang.

chairmenmeow47

trance pretty much is dead. and it depends on what type of trance you like. i have a friend who spins mostly psy-trance though and they throw more trance/downtempo related events. i think the production company is "overmind works", but i'll double check when i get home. they are like the hippies of the rave scene in my eyes, lol. i've always wanted to check out their events, they do a lot of camping stuff. it seems to me though that trance has kinda seperated itself from the scene. which is understandable given that people tend to respond more to hardcore/dnb/breaks out here. the house scene kinda does it's own thing too with the red monkey parties.

there will be a variety of hardcore from the locals at wonder, but the headliners are dnb. i am friends with a lot of the hardcore people though, so if i ever hear of any good events i'll let you know. and it would be cool to see you out :)

I'm just really craving variety and culture lately. I'm slowly dying and getting fucking bored with stuff. I would feel really out of place there but I really like to challenge my social skills sometimes. Who knows. I really enjoyed bikini this past weekend though and i'm going to try to start hitting up first fridays starting this friday if i'm in town. A rave might be fun. chairmenmeow47

i honestly wouldn't recommend doing any drugs at arizona raves unless it was something really special. the only people really doing that these days are the younger, newer ravers. most arizona ravers go to cali massives to get fucked up. there's a lot more drinking now.

and yeah, variety is always good. i could use some of that myself!

I am voting no on all Arizona propositions.

I voted no on everything except for 202. I was going to abstain from voting on 202 but it appears to be a smarter way to reign in some of the crap that came with Russell Pearce's bigoted initiatives that passed in 2006.

Oh and I had a very long conversation with Medusa who informed me several times that she was bisexual and showed me her nipple piercings.

Is this girl kinda thick, actually have Medusa-y hair, big titties, and does tattoos?

I really enjoyed bikini this past weekend though and i'm going to try to start hitting up first fridays starting this friday if i'm in town.

The Bikini is hit or miss on Fridays (except FF). Mondays is hipster recovery night which means decent music but atrocious mixing. Tuesdays are the most fun, the music is always bitchin' and the DJs actually mix. Sorry for the plug, it's my boy's night.

but I listen to a lot of EDM and IDM, including (but not limited to): Aphex Twin, Daft Punk, Justice, Underworld, Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Leftfield, Moby, etc... My favorite Sahara acts this year were Aphex, Adam Freeland, and Fatboy Slim. I'm not knowledgeable enough about what constitutes the differences between genres (i.e house, breakbeat, dubstep, trance, etc...) If it sounds good and not overly repetitive, I'll dance to it... Any recommendations based on that?

Sorry, kid. Phoenix raves are not for you. Yr tastes are just too... european.

The only extent to which that was negative was, I feel, extremely useful: if you go to raves in Phoenix you're not likely to hear music that is much at all like the artists you listed.

That's a very good thing to know. Now you can make a better decision on your own on when/if you want to go to a rave. And you can look into some of the artists listed on those posters and some of the genres mentioned - dnb, psy-trance, hardcore, etc - and see if you like that music. And if you could dance to it all night and still enjoy it.

Ivy's right. DnB, hardcore and breaks get the majority of speaker time. Doesn't mean you'll be bored, though.

You sound like a minor, in which case I say go to every party you can get into before you turn 18. That way, if you get busted or wind up in jail, you can get a clean slate when you become a legal adult. Win!

took me about an hour to vote this morning. they had two precincts in the same building, which caused a lot of confusion. one of the precincts had a MUCH shorter line. so there were all these empty booths over there, while my precinct was a long line. also, i didn't know my precinct, and it took two people to find out and half the line had to find out. they made it difficult to find out too. i asked the lady why they couldn't let people from the larger precinct use the other precinct's voting booths, and she said it would be too confusing. it's really THAT confusing to pick up a booth and move it across the room as needed?

then, they split my line by the first letter of your last name, so A-L in one line and M-Z in another. not everyone heard though and they weren't clear about which line was for which, so more confusion there.

then they had two people signing in for every one voter. what the fuck kind of sense does that make?! on my side, the idiots had taken the name sheets out of the binder, so they were all over the place and out of order. NO ONE COULD FIND THE FUCKING Qs. i finally had to tell people that Q comes after P, but before R and just look on the damn sheet myself.

and i saw signs outside of the church where i voted for prop 102 and that david schwei guy. sean, do you know more about the rules on that?

lastly, i voted no on all the props except the salary raise one. i wish i had done more research, but anything that seemed like a good idea either didn't seem like ENOUGH of a good idea (payday loans) or put rules into place that i feared could be too restrictive (health care).

faxman75

I voted no on all props, voted for Saban, all Dems and libertarians.

I also had signs outside the church. They were at the parking lot entrance and not near the line. I wonder what the law is on that as well. Back in the day people used to be out there handing out pamphlets and crap about their candidate. I'm glad that nonsense stopped.

I had thought that all signs needed to be down, but it appears that as long as they are a certain distance away from the actual polls, they are allowed. Not sure what the exact distance is, though. Have to see if I can find it somwhere.

EDIT: Found it. 75 feet is the rule.

I'm more suprised at how many points 102 passed by than Arpaio getting re-elected. He is way too popular with the base here. And, the base is a majority here, unfortunately.

As far as 102, I think they played on a lot of people's ignorance. I bet a large portion of people who voted yes didn't know that a statute is already in the books as far as recognizing marriage between a man and a woman. What a complete waste of time and money.

I am not surprised that 102 passed. 107 was only barely defeated 2 years ago and that was a harsher amendment, banning domestic partnerships as well.

Also I would bet that a majority of the people that voted for 102 did know that there's already a law on the books that bans gay marriage. Bigots have started to learn that they have to get their discrimination into Constitutions because otherwise judges will point out that their discriminatory laws are Unconstitutional. I have heard enough scare talk of "activist judges" (essentially defined as a judge that makes rulings you disagree with) for a long time.

I am sad, though. I really hoped we'd somehow defeat that one.

Funny...a co-worker had a brief discussion about 102 with a supporter of it this morning. The supporter said that he was glad that it passed. My friend then asked him why. The supporter (we will call him Tyler) said he wanted it in the constitution. My friend then told him it was already illegal. Tyler then said that he didn't want some "liberal" judge over turning it. My friend then said, "Oh, then should we put murder in the constitution, too? That is illegal." That was the end of the conversation for Tyler. :)

Also while on the subject of djs, I saw dj fashion work his ass of this weekend in scottsdale. he plays some of the sickest remixes, and these people dont even know it. Hmm....let me think about other places...there's a place I've wanted to go to called the Bada Boom Pasta Room-it's in Scottsdale but I've never been there so I can't vouch for it.

I'll bet Tom will say to start the night off at Kazmierez and then head to Cowboy Ciao next door, which would be cool with me.

cowboy ciao (http://www.cowboyciao.com/menu.php) looks interesting, but maybe a bit pricey for our group.

i've never had dinner at furio (http://www.furio.tv/menu_menus.html#dinner) either. the only times i've been though were to see friends dj and i was always too broke to eat, lol. that place is fun, but it may be hard to get a large table for our group, i dunno.

When you take farmland, and try to turn it into the 'burbs, that's what happens. Personally, I could never live that far from everything. To each their own, I guess.

I can't believe Sushi gets no love, I thought everybody loved it!! Anyways, you guys decide and let me know, it makes no difference to me.

I was going to suggest...but grazie used to be owned by the same people that own Cibo, and Ivy didn't like Cibo. Same style/similar menu, etc.

from what i remembered, cibo didn't have as much besides pizza for entrees, or at least entrees i'd want to eat, lol.

and i'm a bike ride away from target and a walk from wal-mart in my hood.

How about a bar and grill type place or are we looking for something more different?

amyzzz

It's cool because Jacob would probably eat whatever Ivy eats (don't go there), except that he also likes Indian food.

I love sushi.

Doesn't the Old Town Tortilla Factory have a killer patio? I haven't been there in forever.

There's also the Bungalow. I'm liking anyplace in old town, so we can stumble over to the Coach House or Patty's after.

randy and i are up for most anything as long as it's a meat & potatoes type of place or italian. we don't like seafood and randy won't like whatever pizza place we go to and will probably make that known if we do, lol. so preferably not a place who's primary food is pizza. also nothing along the lines of "indian/asian/bland northern european crap/crazy fusion", lol. alcohol is a big plus as well.

keep the menus coming or i'll go through tonight and post some :)

oh, and is dylanja 21? if not, we need to be sure to go to some place all ages.

Amyzzz you're missing out on sushi. Give it a shot, but make sure you go to a good sushi place like Hana.

I think she said Jacob was the anti sushi one.

There's always the Yardhouse. Their food is decent. And bonus points for the five million beers on tap.

Maybe Casey Moores in Tempe as previously discussed?

They have pasta, seafood, sandwiches and burgers I think. You can also chill in or outside, patio is cool there too.

And whatever y'all want to eat is fine as long is it's not sushi. I don't think Jacob would eat that.

My brother's family is in a real-estate-bubble-busted-stalled-suburban development, surrounded by mormons.

I can't believe people are actually arguing over what I said.

I was going to respond to Dylan but thought I was overthinking it and should shut up! :p
I might try it, but I usually don't go out to eat with anyone without my husband (I know, pathetic), and I think he would veto sushi.

Our development may never finish where I live either. AND we have mormon stalkers who keep leaving cheery little notes on our door since Jacob grew up in the LDS church.
