Some in here are really ignorant. That long ass jam was a fantastic rendition of Santana's Soul sacrifice mixed with other Santana riffs. You just dont recognise greatness if it stares you in the face...

best performance I've ever seen.
Radiohead at the Bowl, sorry but Prince just stole that spot. The whole thing was incredible. The build up, Opening with Jungele Love, everything. I can't believe how close I got. still blown away.

Long time Coachella go-er, first time posting here. I'm glad that quite a few people here enjoyed Prince's show, but I want to post my issue with it.
When I heard Prince would be at Coachella, I was excited, but also nervous. Prince is phenomenally talented, and completely capable of putting together an amazing rock show geared toward Coachella's sweet spot, and anyone who did not know this was simply ignorant. However, those claiming him to be completely separate from the Janet Jacksons of the world aren't being honest. Prince has made a lot of music that is pretty clearly not a different animal than what teenyboppers produce. Obviously, while he did push his performance toward Coachella to some degree, on the whole he did his pop thing. And to me, that stuff has no more place at Coachella than Justin Timberlake does. Clearly Golden Voice wanted to have a really, really big artist, more than they wanted somebody who fit in with the niche Coachella has built for itself. My statement to them thus is that I'm disappointed, and I very much hope they don't go further in this direction. |

comparing prince to a teen pop princess is just stupid, that guy has more talent in one of his pubes than all the pop bitches combined.
and coachella is about pushing the boundaries, not being confined by any. |

Prince was great. My napping was simply a reaction to how much he overwhelmed me.
Morris Day, Sheila E = fucking fantastic - I find it silly how these "children" couldn't recognize that as his music. Yes, the comparison to Janet Jackson is a real knee slapper. And - he's a fucking great guitar player. I could keep going, but I figure I'm just stating the obvious. |

Now with that clear, note that I already acknowledged how bloody talented Prince is. That doesn't change the fact that Prince has primarily made his career about being a pop artist and so comparing him to pop artists when he performs music designed to make him a pop artist isn't just reasonable, it's what obviously needs to be done. As far as pushing boundaries, moving toward pop is not pushing boundaries, it is regressing back to the mean. After all it's certainly not the case that artists like Paul Oakenfold and Rage Against the Machine are in one little bubble, and Prince is daring us to break out of that. |

i taped the entire "shh" performance. It came out beautiful, I'll have the video up later. Gave me chills watching it again.
I seriously thought my body was going to explode when he opened with a Jungle Love Jam. I love how he warmed up the crowd for 20 minutes, playing behind speakers to give full attention to his band/Morris day. The tightest band of musicians i've ever seen. Seriously the greatest show I have ever seen.

For me what it comes down to is that I want interesting music, more so than anything else. I stopped buying music because it was "good" quite a while ago, because the truth is, it's all good. Every year, I drag myself out to the god awful heat in the desert, because I want to hear music that's reaching beyond what Ryan Seacrest is promoting. If Coachella ceases to satisfy me in that regard, I might as well stay home where I can here the same stuff for far less money in far more comfortable surroundings. |

What I got from his performance was that he was a great guitarist and musician, but definitely out of place at Coachella. Also, coming on stage half an hour late was a bit of a buzzkill. No hate, just what I gathered.

In the future of Coachella, there will not be a better headliner show than Prince on Saturday night. There may be some that equal it, like Roger Waters & Radiohead, but none will surpass. What's going to be the big surprise for year 10? Bowie, Talking Heads, U2? They will not top that show. (in my opinion) And that's part of the dilemma for Goldenvoice; the need to "top themselves." I think those days are over, especially considering that there are 15 major music festivals in the US, so there is nothing exclusive anymore. |

prince man...
he is the best performer/guitar player still doing it right now. he blew my mind. i think anyone that did not enjoy probably didn't because you are a) too young to be familiar with the music b) one of those people with a corn cob up their ass that won't allow themselve to just let go and have a good time. prince isn't a musical revolutionary like waters and may not stand the test of time like radiohead most likely will but fucking prince is 100% unadulterated fun. i can't imagine them getting a headliner that will be more fun than him ever. but we will see what next year brings...michael jackson? |

So let's be clear about what Prince is, and what he is not. Prince is a phenomenally talented musician capable of creating art that goes far beyond pleasantness. He is not however an artist who has dedicated his career simply toward creating such art. He has made a lot of music that is geared simply at out-popping pop artists. He's entitled to do this of course, but everyone looking at this music honestly should be able to see that just because it has a musical prodigy's hands on it, does not make it any greater than if it were a factory produced Britney Spears hit. I object not to having Prince the genius perform at Coachella, but at having him perform material that is merely pleasant. |

Prince was the single most greatest performer to ever perform on that stage. He owned that stage. Just like he said from now on that was Princes stage. It was. Roger Waters was good and even breath taking, but you could not walk away from Prince on stage. I did to Roger Waters (and actually wished I didnt, Justice was WEAK WEAK WEAK...) No other performer has matched the 2 hours of pure genius that was Prince. All I gotta say is his performance of Creep killed anything before it, and everything after it.

Prince on guitar was amazing, and I heard someone up there say they were dissapointed and left in the first 20 minutes...shoulda stayed, your loss. I loved the intro with Morris Day and The Time, never expected that and the cover of "creep" was great too! yeah he started off slow and I think the morris day part should have remained but the Sheila E. portion could have gone and we would have had more Prince on ten minutes earlier.
everyone I talked to LOVED princes set, so I dont know where you found these people that just hated it...sounds like a bunch of teenagers only interested in one specific sound.

the late start and long wait for Prince to actually SING just about killed my enjoyment. But then he pulled Creep out of his ass and I recovered. His guitar skills are incredible and that DANCING!
