While us older folks were being reminded of the instrumental genius in creating music years ago, the young folks were learning that some things just can't be done on a spin table or laptop. Either way, we all learned how good it felt to "Come Together" under the night sky at Coachella!

Prince was absolutely amazing. I was on the rail on the right side of the stage and got some great shots of him too.
I've been pleasantly surprised by both headliners thus far (yes, even JJ was good) |

Prince started his show off amazingly but started to lose the crowd when he overdid the guitar on every song...as well as the Angel cover. I've never seen a crowd part and leave like that at the closing band of Coachella. But he did end it greatly and I want to know WHO GOT THE GUITAR? Also, I know Morris Day was there and Sheila E but I swear I say Chaka Khan...was that just the drugs?

Prince was pretty sweet.
Bringing back Morris and Shelia E was great, my buddy kept saying I bet he'll do all of Purple Rain then, but it didn't happen. Really nice seeing his showmanship, amazing guitar playing and stage presence.. I was too tired to clap and stomp, do all the things he implored you to do, but his confidence and energy are infectious. Gotta say it though, Portishead killed too

Prince was epic. He kills the guitar. He can still dance. Quite the showman.
That said... anyone else think he was compensating for his voice with the background singers? He said he came to Coachella to "play" but I'm not sure he was there to sing. Oh well... I loved it and seeing Morris and Sheila E was the biggest surprise of a great day. |

it was pretty funny, i was walking out after the show and these 3 guys were commenting on prince, saying things like "i haven't seen him do that eye thing or the facial expressions like that in forever, i can't believe he was doing that!" and "do you think he recognized us?". so obviously these guys have seen him numerous times and even they were blown away. shows prince didn't hold back at all.

That is one of the great things about camping you get to hear some of the soundchecks, like Portishead and in 06 hearing Madonnas whole seat from the campground in the morning.

What made Prince's performance the best of 08?
-He was in tune with the Coachella vibe! -He played what the crowd wanted him to play! -He played Creep! -He brought Morris Day! -He brought Jimmy Jam! -He brought Sheila E! -He wasn't pretentious! -He made it his house! -He played like he was in church! -He got the crowd to clap! -He played guitar like a motherfucker! -He played a Motley Crew riff with only one hand on the neck! -He dressed like a performer! -He played Santana (which I took as an ode to their Woodstock performance)! -He brought the best band money can buy! -He went over an hour and 5 minutes! -He seemed grateful to be there! -He played "Let's Go Crazy"! The audience's participation was what sealed it for me. His performance was reminiscent of Paul Simon's Graceland Tour and U2's Unforgettable Fire tour. I will never forget his performance.
