Last year I saw Radiohead 5 times, Portishead, Prince, Roger Waters, The Verve, and that free Cure show at the Troubadour. I don't think I can ever top that. But this year I got to go Glasto and that's the ultimate musical adventure.

My Top 3 so far is very much set in stone and will not change.
1. Animal Collective at the Henry Miller Library in Big Sur 2. Deerhunter at the Eagle Rock Center for the Arts 3. My Bloody Valentine at the El Rey Theatre and Coachella (they're tied) Everything else... not sure yet... and I still have several pretty great shows coming up.

I have another festival and probably at least another 20 shows this year, so I'll wait a few weeks.

This will sound dumb, but
Dungen at the Rhythm Room in Phoenix August 24th was one of the most amazing shows I've seen. Beautiful music, the band members had great camaraderie. Obligatory Thom Yorke. It started off slow but kept building and building into beautiful insanity. NIN/JA at Cricket Pavilion was fun, good times, good friends. Everything else was festival stuff. We've already been over Paul McCartney and MBV at coach and NIN at Bonnaroo. Last edited by amyzzz; 11-07-2009 at 10:33 AM. Reason: whoops, Thom Yorke! |

i was thinkin about it.... I saw them twice this year, at the G in Feb and then again in August at Warp Tour. The Warp Tour set was fucking awful. Worst ive ever seen them play. It was the last day of the tour and they were shitfaced... but still. i think ive had enough NOFX this year.
and we need to hit up a show.... u live so damn close.

Why would Thursday play a War All The Time show in 2009?
Best show of the year for me is Boredoms at ATP NY. It may be the best show I've ever seen period

Festival Shows
1. Nine Inch Nails - Bonnaroo The perfect send-off. I didn't get to go to any of the final shows, but this was all I needed. 2. David Byrne - Bonnaroo Seeing one of my all-time favorite artists from less than ten feet away 3. Paul McCartney- Coachella A legend giving me every Beatles song I could have hoped to hear 4. Phish Night 2 - Bonnaroo First time up close after seeing them on that Friday. Great setlist and amazing guest spot from Bruce Springsteen 5. TV On The Radio - Bonnaroo Digging deep into their catalogue for a set that had fantastic, wide sound. Young Liars, Halfway Home, Shout Me Out, and an absolutely filthy Wolf Like Me 6. Portugal The Man - Bonnaroo I had been up for forty hours straight at this point, and shortly after the set I saw a lion roaring at me in the crowd of people. These conditions resulted in a perfectly calibrated set, no missed notes, all fire and brimstone. 7. No Age w/ Bob Mould - ATP One of my favorite current bands, who had put me on the guestlist for the show, playing the songs of theirs that I love with some Husker Du classics. Tie 8. Boredoms - ATP, Boris - ATP Both sets hit me in the gut, a physical and sonic force Non-Festival 1. Nine Inch Nails/Janes Addiction - Cricket Pavilion, AZ My first time seeing what had slowly become one of my favorite bands (NIN that is) 2. Moby - Fillmore NY at Irving Plaza, NY A little top-heavy on recent sleepy songs, but energetic and fun enough to live up to my admittedly high expectations 3. Fever Ray - Webster Hall, NY Curious, distant, entrancing 4. No Age - Le Poisson Rouge, NY I had interviewed them before this show and had been obsessively listening to the new EP for the last few days. They played 3/4 from the new EP, a new song, and closed with Sleeper Hold and Boy Void. Awesome 5. Saul Williams - Gramercy Theater, NY His poetry and songs glued my feet to the floor and through the entire audience into a trance-like state, afraid to move for risk of breaking the spell |

They also played Full Collapse in its entirety a few weeks ago in New York. I think they just wanted to change things up and do something special.
