I wonder if this is an early version and "sean penn" is their stand in for actual acts.

Has to be.
Thus, MORE SURPRISES!

Actually, could someone that likes doing that kind of thing check it against the lineup and see if anyone is missing?

Otherwise it must be surprises

Yeah, it's weird, especially the 15 minute set. Kanye was only a half hour in '06 though, I think.

Also, I'm in no condition to judge these things.

I did a google search and came up on this site but it won't load:

http://www.dosomething.org/celebsgon...penn_coachella

it had some blurb about traveling bus or something.

I think he is probably doing a speech about the planet, save me, blah, blah because coachella is going greener (amtrak, recycle bottles etc.) and mr. penn loves his planet

I mean, maybe the 15 min slot is a speech. But nobody wants to see him on the mainstage spouting his mouth for a half hour. That's gotta be something else. Like Eddie Vedder.

Reminder: this is a music and arts festival. And Sean Penn is indeed an artist and not given anywhere near the credit he deserves.

If he's speaking, I'm thrilled. The guy is a terrific critical thinker who is also quite empathetic. I'm sure there will be something to be learned or inspired by here.

And if you don't appreciate how "left" he is, go shake your butt somewhere else. There are four other stages just for that purpose.

He is less left than I am, so I do not feel like hearing a watered down version of my own internal monologue.

Thanks, but no thanks, I am here for the music.

Cool. Maybe you won't be online in front of me for the Cycleside rides -- assuming they're there again, of course. :^)

True, but it's not like he is taking time from other performers. There was going to be a gap of silence in between these acts anyways so who really cares if someone is up there spewing some stuff. Shit, it's better than that old fart reading haiku on stage for 15 minutes. Maybe someone will learn something.
