We stopped by the FOH and Orange Court on Saturday and Sunday for maybe an hour each time, but it seemed there was always some other place we needed to be. The Red Marquee especially had a lot of bands we wanted to check out, plus it's close to the Green Stage as well as lots of sake/ beer/ food. The Crystal Palace isn't too far from there either.
Last year was my first time and I went with some Fuji veterans, so I basically followed them around most of the time. I also wasn't familiar with more than half of the bands there, maybe since I'm a Yank and they had a heavily British flavor last year. I should have caught Gogol Bordello. Foals were OK but you really have to like their sound, and I'm not sure I do. The Gossip got a bit tiring after a while. Underworld was great. |

Teenage Fanclub The Vaselines The Flaming Lips Bjork MOGAWI The Specials Paramore Nine Inch Nails Hollywood Undead Those are the bands listed on the facebook group. Some could be wrong but a few of those would be awesome to see. Last edited by JClemy; 02-22-2009 at 11:56 PM. |

Summer Sonic hints.
1. They came to us wanting to play, and we couldn't tell them that it's "Not Okay." Everyone is saying that this must be referring to My Chemical Romance, so I guess it must be. 2. It's probably safe to call them veterans now - they'll be playing Summer Sonic for the first time, and will likely take the indoor stages at both Tokyo and Osaka. Uh, this isn't much to go by... 3. They have new albums coming out. M** and **A**** Mew and Placebo? |

This may seem like a stupid question but where on the site are you finding the hints on the site? Last edited by JClemy; 02-23-2009 at 06:32 AM. |

My Chemical Romance isn't really any worse than some of the other stinkers that have graced Summer Sonic in the past. After all the Flaming Lips and the Teenage Fanclubs, you had to suspect that something like this was coming.
JClemy, they send out these hints to people who have signed up to their mobile site, so you have to be a member to receive them. But naturally, people are going to post them on forums like 2ch and mixi, and that's where I get the information. Though there have been fake hints that seemed believable at first sight, but you can usually tell by the reactions of others whether they're legit or not. And to answer your earlier question, we took a hotel last year, and will likely do so again. I think the one we stayed at was the best hotel in the area, save for the Naeba Prince (where all the artists lodge), and I'd rather we go somewhere cheaper, but my friends seem to have their sights on the same hotel. I don't know, I might break with them and find somewhere else, or possibly lodge at a gymnasium. |

Oh yeah, the Red Marquee is right next to the Oasis area, so the food choices are plenty. The selection at the Orange Court is pitiful. I guess it's not so bad at the Field of Heaven, and it's pretty good when you go up to the Gypsy Avalon, but I just wish they had an equivalent of Oasis/World Restaurant in that area. But yeah, it's not logistically practical and I realize it's way too much to ask.

For Fuji you mean? They've been rumored for Summer Sonic so I was kind of hopeful that they won't be at Fuji. Well SS will be releasing their first batch of lineups this week (I guess on Friday?), so we'll see if the Killers are on there. If they're not, uh-oh, we better watch out.

Didn't Linkin Park just headline?
So they get Aphex Twin and not Fuji Rock? What sense does that make?

It's that way every year. I think in 2006 they had Linkin Park but also Daft Punk.

Yeah, a mix of shit and greatness is what Summer Sonic is all about. But there's just enough greatness in there so far to make me contemplate going this year. Depends though.
I remember reading somewhere that Creativeman has a policy of never using the same headliner twice, so maybe LP has been demoted to sub-headliner status? Or maybe they dropped that policy since they're holding it for three days for the first time... |

NIN/Flaming Lips/Aphex Twin/CSS/Mogwai/Sonic Youth/etc is pretty sweet.

That is the weirdest music festival line up I have ever seen. If that was anywhere in NA I would go to it though. No question.

FUCK YES! Although as stated before I didn't get the pre-sale, a friend of mine did, and since she applied for two tickets, she'll let me buy one off of her.
I suddenly love life right now. |

Thanks man. I'm so happy right now, if Limp Bizkit ends up headlining Fuji Rock, I'll just laugh and shrug it off.

So good news! I got presale too! Lucky I guess. Both me and my fiance got it! We just have to figure out how to pay now. It's a lot of money really quick. I'm not used to a timeline this short. It would be easy if I didn't need a friend to do translating for me lol.

Summer Sonic was just as odd Saturday, it went: Blondie ---> Good Charlotte --> Stereophonics --- The Strokes ---> Radiohead. People would scream bloody murder here in the US if Coachella or Bonnaroo went like that.

Yikes, I had no idea that Evanescence played Fuji. That's pretty terrible. The stinker last year was Simple Plan (well them and a few other terrible Japanese bands), whose set I actually happened to walk past while heading from the Field of Heaven to the Green Stage. They changed the lyrics to one of the songs to "arigato" which made me sort of cringe. It was really gross.
JClemy - That's awesome that you got the pre-sale, congratulations. Does that mean you have four tickets now (two each for you and your fiance)? Though I guess it won't be that hard to find takers at the discounted price. Anyway, the lineup's been posted on the Summer Sonic website. Good to know I wasn't proven a liar. From the alignment of the acts on the lineup page, it looks like NIN is NOT a headliner. |

Oh yeah, JClemy, if you can post the Japanese instructions (for the payment) here, I might be able to help you.

Think I'll just post the image and save everyone the trouble of going to the website.
![]() Man, does that mean two of the three headliners are Linkin Park and My Chemical Romance? Jesus Christ. |

We have a friend coming over to help us buy the tickets tomorrow. Thanks though. I'm not sure that I got selected to the presale. I use outlook and for some reason my outlook doesn't like displaying Japanese Characters. My email looked the same as my fiances but upon further inspection I'm not so sure. I've still got to figure out how to change the display from ??????????23????????42????? to real characters lol. Thanks for all the help though. Are there conflicts are Summer Sonic?

Wow, they had stuff like Nas, N.E.R.D. and Jurassic 5 playing the main stage that day. But the other day, the one Green Day headlined, had Avril Lavigne and Sum 41. There's Summer Sonic for ya. |

You mean between bands? I hear a lot about how Daft Punk and the Flaming Lips conflicted in 2006. Of course, if neither of them are to your taste, you could have gone for Metallica.
This looks a little suspicious. Check out their live schedule. http://www.myspace.com/thejapanesepopstars |
