Round 2 - Zoo Festival vs. Poplife Festival

Welcome to round 2 of the create a festival contest. Here the match ups last 4 days instead of 3, in hopes of people taking their time and putting some thought into their vote, because it's pretty important by this time.

So take some time to look past headliners, listen and explore the smaller bands, and take whatever else into account and then cast your vote. Each winner of a round 2 match up will BE REQUIRED to submit set times for the next round. I'll be contacting each winner personally to give them more info on that and the time frame. Failure to submit set times results in you being forced out of the tourney.

Remember, no alias (or those I suspect are aliases) votes, and no one under 100 posts is allowed to vote either. Enjoy.

    Poplife Festival:

there IS no reunion band. no conflicts. nothing.
annnnd, how can you not read it? it's in one of the sans serif of all sans serif fonts.

I dont think a reunion was used, and ok after reading it I am totally going for Poplife. And man they got balls(unless its a girl) Gwen, Gorillaz AND Prince. I smell a 30 second sell out just with that. Although scheduling problems might happen next round since its pretty much set who is on what stage, but I coudl give a crap about that.

Edit: I do also love the props being given to the original Montrey Pop Festival. Location wins on this too even though Golden Gate Park would be great but being close to the beach is always a plus.

    no reunion band? bah.

there's no normal or linear way to read this. i find myself reading things twice accidentally and missing things on first/second pass.

i can read it, but the ease of readability is low.

whoever did poplife, thought it over very well, and put a lot of time and effort into the poster. it has a much stronger line-up as well. Im going to Monterey!

I think its a good thing if you have to go through it a few times. You end up "discovering" something else that you missed on the first pass. I didnt notice Timbaland or Mogwai on the first skim of it. So I kept going "holy s**t!! no way!!!"

out of bjork, david bowie, prince, nas, basement jaxx, and gorillaz...im really only crazy about bjork and bowie. But a lot of the other bands make up for that.

the concept is to pay attention and to really engulf yourself into the lineup of this festival. the problem with many festival layouts is the coachella style linear layout is created to highlight the headliners that most people would be interested in which causes alot of people to skip over supporting artists.

the poplife concept is presented as such because it's making a statement as one cohesive experience. amy winehouse is just as important as the hold steady and the wu tang clan is just as important as the new pornographers. alot of the bands in larger font aren't even the headliner.

Wow... This is going to be a tough decision... (I didn't comment on poster aesthetics because this is probably the two best designed posters to have gone up against one another thus far)

    Zoo Fest

    + Massive Attack
    + Modest Mouse
    + The Shins
    + Doves
    + Boards of Canada
    + Mogwai
    + Fantomas (Mike Patton FTW)
    ----
    + Beck
    + Underworld
    + Fiona Apple
    + Sigur Ros
    + Broken Social Scene
    + Muse
    + Jarvis Cocker
    + Stereophonics
    + Of Montreal

    + Snow Patrol
    + QOTSA
    + MF Doom
    + S.T.A.R.S.
    + Damien Rice

    - Sarah Silverman (just a completely unfunny bitch)
    - Badly Drawn Boy's position (over Dave Matthews or even QOTSA!?)
    - Dave Matthews
    - Weak 3rd day

    Pop Life:

+ Festival Theme (Day and Night-ness rocks)
    + Films

    + Sonic Youth
    + Interpol
    + Wilco
    + New Pornographers
    + Bright Eyes
    + Of Montreal
    + Mogwai
    ----
    + David Bowie
    + Franz Ferdinand
    + Amy Winehouse
    + Modest Mouse
    + Blonde Redhead
    + Peter Bjorn and John
    + The Flaming Lips

    + Chemical Brothers
    + Mos Def
    + Air
    + LCD Soundsystem
    ----
    + QOTSA

+ Elvis Costello (and the Imposters?)
    + Broken Social Scene
    + Gorillaz
    + Gnarls Barkley
    + DJ Shadow
    + Junior Boys

+ One of the best 2nd days so far
+ Being the only poster with Elvis Costello thus far

    - Bjork
    - Prince
    - TV On the Radio
    - Gwen Stefani

I think it's clear that my vote's with Pop Life. =D

Somebody else has Elvis on it I swear it did. Waikiki did, it was one of the things we were arguing about with "working the system" on line ups.
