Arcade Fire
daft punk!!!!!!!!!!
Beck would be pretty cool..but not on the same level as Rage...There are too seperate fan bases for them. Actually, I would say Radiohead.
i'd love to see oasis, but the flaming lips put on too good of a show to pass up.

If RATM cancels, riots headline Sunday.
I feel like they'd have to throw major money at someone like the Smashing Pumpkins, Bowie, or Oasis as a last minute replacement. Beck, Flaming Lips, and NIN would be let-downs after the Rage excitement (so would Oasis, for that matter, but they're arguably a more legit headliner)
It would have to be Radiohead, but it would still be a mostly RATM crowd, so as thom would sing "Pyramid song" there would be red star flags, posters saying free mumia and teens burning the American flag at the same time thom is singing "I jumped in the river and what did I see? Black-eyed angels swam with me"
Rage won't pull out now, they're commited to this, they wouldn't have signed if there was any doubt at all. People are coming from literally every continent on the globe for this gig, it's going to be amazing!
Radiohead wouldn't headline. They have said many times they will not play anymore shows until their new album is finished and released. So either way expect to see Radiohead in 2008!
Daft Punk and Kronos Quartet featuring David Bowie ("Around the World), Tom Waits ("Robot Rock"), Bruce Springsteen ("Television Rules the Nation") and Elton John ("One More Time")

Flock of Seagulls
primus anyone...?
...anyone...?
Wow...way to jinx Sunday Night.
"Riots" sounds like a good headliner to me. So does "Violence", "Smashing Pumpkins", "Protest", "The Police", "System Of A Down", and "Death."
Maybe "Gwar"...heheheheh

Yeah... if you guys have any idea of how many offers they've turned down already... this is it.
They've thought long and hard about it, trust me. You don't turn down 100 candy bars and take the 101st if you're not ready.
if rage backs out during the festival i think there would be a riot
Riots with ensue, they will not cancel.... Morrissey comes in to save the day since he will be chilling in his house in the Hollywood hills and since Modest Mouse will have played Friday, Johnny Marr stuck around to watch the rest of the festival so we have a Smiths reunion on our hands that ends up trumping Rage getting back together...
I dont think smashing pumpkins would headline coachella. I think if they decide to start their reunion tour, its gonna be after their new album is finished and even then...it would probably be done at lollapalooza since theyre from chicago
R.E.M. would be my hope.
Honestly if you are going to go about this thought logically think about if Rage had to canel say the week of, who could get a show together quickly enough and that could have a strong enough fan base to apease the coachella crowd?
So think about who is close by and probably available and probably doesn't need a whole lot of pre production time on their light show and what not.
Arcade Fire or Foo Fighters come to mind
In a sick, twisted world, I kinda hope that RATM would cancel, just so KROQ could roll over and die.
They would just get like Van Halen to cover.... Diamond Dave saves the day..
Everybody wants some....I want some too

I refuse to consider this scenario. Rage is 65% of the reason we are going!!
Rage is the only reason I'm going, I'm paying big money to come down so they better not cancel. I'm excited to see the other bands but Rage is definately the reason for me coming, I can't think of any bands that could replace them, maybe Jimi Hendrix if they built a time machine.
