mmm theres a bit of "music elitist smug" here that smells like poo

I'm a fan of many genres (predominately edm), and like all of it.

even trance. Yes, I like Paul Oakenfold, i'm not afraid to admit here. I like Tiesto. I'd have a good time to Ferry Corsten given the opportunity.

Point is, I dont care if the DJ is "skilled" or "overrated". I personally dont know much about mixing, but it's not something I judge while im trying to groove to him/her. I dont care if its Tiesto, Justice, the Chems, or anyone. I'll have a good time no matter what, because the music is fun in the right atmosphere.

and given the fact that Tiesto played infront of a decent sized crowd and everyone was having fun and had a good time, it was a great atmosphere.

So yes, he was a good idea for Coachella.

Not perfect (daft punk, prodigy), but definitely good nonetheless.

Just because you dont like the style of music doesnt mean it's a wrong move for coachella.

    Mmm. Handjobs.
At some point in time a man switches from "I'll have what he's having" to "I'll have what I'm having."

Tiesto is a little bit better than headlice and a little bit worse than a paper cut. I believe the formula goes as follows:

    Paper Cut>Tiesto>Headlice

It's a fact, look it up.

Alot of hate for Tiesto here..I didn't catch his set because I was in the Gobi tent watching Cornelius. But from what I am reading alot of people despise here because he is a Dj and not a real "band". Kind of xenophobic but oh well to each is own. I will be catching both him and Daft Punk here at Red Rocks in July. Daft Punk is sooo built up now that I will be expecting a epic of all epic performances...Hopefully I will not be dissapointed. On that note just saw Bjork again at Red Rocks. It was EPIC!!

the problem i have with tiesto is his lack of ability to grow as a dj/artist - he plays the same records (90% of which feature pipe organs) that he has since the 90s - zzzz

i don't think you understand. people don't despise DJ's, they despise Tiesto because he sucks as a DJ. like dafstar said, tiesto hasn't changed his sound in years. he makes some superficial changes here and there, but he's one of the most stale artists around. pretty soon it's gonna get to the point where he will be no better than a wedding dj.

Point taken..I am not too familar with alot of his work so I can't be the judge right off the bat. I have sample some of his stuff (On Itunes so that might not be the best source) and it doesn't sound like normal trance stuff, but then isn't that a genre that you can't really do much with?

Having not been exposed to him before Coachella, he was pretty fun.

The best part of his set though was when the wind picked up, and you got that cool gust of natural energy. I bet those windmills were spinning to the beat. Albeit a simple beat - but it made it easier for the windmills to stay on rhythm.

I've seen them perform with a lot more energy, I enjoyed The Rapture for sure, but I think that they were no match for what Justice or LCD put out. (I did think it was very cool that Mattie was there in the crowd during Justice's set though, hey, the man has taste)

The only electronic-themed person that rocked the hell out of the Main Stage (with live instruments mixed) was Bjork. But Bjork is on her own planet, so lets not go there. But to have a DJ go on after the Chili Peppers.... blah- put his ass back in the Sahara tent.
hey, lets leave Shadow out of this thread, there is no need to insult a real dj now.

obviously, you don't know shit about electronic music. obviously, you don;t realize that the sahara may have been the best stage this year. let's see:

    digitalism
    faithless
    guetta
    mstrkrft
    busyp/mehdi
    justice
    lcd
    rapture
    soulwax
    happy mondays

damn, what an amazing year at the sahara.
And finally, yes, this year was an amazing year for the Sahara, it was missing a few great acts: Daft Punk, Underworld, Chemical Brothers. But hey, GV can't pull everything off, I ain't mad at ya.
