Default Did you ride your bike?

I want to hear stories from others who rode their bikes to Coachella. I really feel that GV or Indio or Coachella, has made it harder every year to ride a bike to the grounds.....but they talk the talk by having a Energy Factory....but can't put a bike rack in to park your bike for the show. Any others have an un-organized, aggravating bike ride like us?....Or was it no problem? I would like to hear your secret, as this is my 4th Coachella, and my third riding bikes. They seem to want us to care about the world, but still burn the fossil fuel, 4 to a car to wait in the parking lot for hours with the engines running and tempers rising.

Ok...I need info on this. Where do people lock up their bikes? I am going to rent some bikes to eliminate the walk from IPCC, but need to know if there is somewhere to lock it up, I don't remember seeing anywhere...

I rode my bike. I locked it up to the fence just outside the entry. I had no problems at all.

What is a good route to take by bike from IPCC to the Polo Fields to bypass all the traffic going into the parking area? Is there a shorter route than taking Monroe to Ave 51 and coming back up to the entrance?

All the people riding bikes to Coachella should meetup at an intersection and ride up to the entrance together. Like a smaller version of the Tour de Fat bike parade. That would be a great environmental statement. Bikechella? Just a thought.

When I was looking into renting bikes last year, I contacted Funseekers. They're located in Palm Desert and do free delivery. The downside is that they're kinda expensive.

I also called a couple bike shops in Indio, but I can't remember their names now. Both places I spoke with said that they had discontinued their bike rentals in favor of only doing sales.

    Thanks Courtney.

If I have to I think I'll just buy a cheap bike from wal-mart or somewhere...it will be worth it.

My dad ran over my ten speed when I was 15. I haven't ridden since.

    Good idea, though.

Monroe to 51 is the best way from IPCC.

    Awesome, I'll keep you posted.

Cheddar, where did you lock up your bike? Do they have a designated parking area for bikes?

I would like to see this Bikechella parade happen. We will probably be on our bikes again. (we bring them with us, from Arizona)

The Tour de Fat just passed through AZ. That bike parade was great!!!

I locked my bike to the fence, just outside the entrance. I noticed several others had done the same.

I will ride my bike for sure if I go alone again. I have a friend who lives in IPCC who might go next year. If he does, we may ride our bikes from there. It is undecided at this point.

GV should provide a lock up zone. Last year, bikes were locked along the fence. It seemed fine until I noticed a couple who were stuck, because somebody had locked a bike in front of theirs and they couldn't access their own.

I hope not, cause what idiot locks his bike like that? I felt bad for those people. I hope they didn't have to wait long and then squarely poked that dipshit in the eye.

Is there a bike coalition in the area...Sf has a bike coalition that usually sets up bike parking for riders at various local events...it's a bike valet service, free with donations appreciated.

No bike coalition that I know of, but there are a lot of douche bags in spandex.

There is no question, Coachella needs a small bike lock up zone!

Any of your local cities have "critical mass"?

It has been going on for years in Chicago. Every Friday people meet at different places and ride as one large group all around the city. Over the years they have taken over major roads and some even gotten arrested. This past Halloween they rode with police escort for HOURS. It took them 30+ minutes to see everyone ride past my house. People were in costume, it was hilarious.

Let's make this Bikechella happen. Who's going to ride their bikes to Coachella? We're bringing our bikes from AZ too. The Tour de Fat was a great warmup.
