    Default Is anyone camping?

From the old board, it seems like a lot of the regulars are staying in hotels, but I thought I'd start a thread for campers. I'm going to try camping on-site this year. Maybe the new 3-day festival is not an IDEAL time to start, but oh well!

I've camped every year since 2004 and it's tons of fun. They seem to make little improvements and adjustments every year. The 3-day thing shouldn't be too scary.

Showers and food are easy to come by.
Lots of activities and things to do, especially on the first night.
Exceptionally quick and easy to get back to your tent at the end of the day - you can be showered and in bed by the time some people are still finding their cars.

I suppose a negative thing would be that you really can't sleep in. Once that sun comes up your tent essentially becomes an oven. And it comes up early.

But all in all I'd say the only real way to experience Coachella is to do the camping. I'd never consider doing it any other way, primarily because I travel from Michigan and don't really want to deal with the extra hassle and cost of a rental car and hotel reservation. Camping is fairly cheap, $35 a person or something, though they'll probably raise the price this year just because of the extra day, but who knows.

Camping seems like the way to go it seems like its part of the experience. About having a good nights sleep, I was able to sleep in fine an if I didn't have my alarm i probably wouldn't have woken up. The only time I had problems sleeping was when some guy ran by my tent yelling PENGUINS AHHHHH PENGUINS EVERYWHERE!!! and woke me up.

Oh damn, that guy got some gooood shit.

But yeah, camping is lots of fun. It's cheap and it's a lot quicker to stumble back to one's tent than it is to stumble to a car parked a mile away, and then sit in traffic for hours. Showers, food, karaoke, and now a myspace tent. As perfect as laws and insurance will permit...well, almost. On-site camping needs more Japanese girls. Yes.

I went to the last Phish festival EVER, in Vermont, and I camped out all 3 nights. I was by myself, and didn't know anyone there, but honestly...it was one of the best weekends of my life (so far). being all alone, for 3 nights, with over 70,000 people camping there wasn't scary at all. it was a GREAT experience. i remember there was music being blasted alllllllll night from a hippie band in a tent, and a bunch of cars with loud stereo systems. it didn't bother me, because I woke up at like 1030 the next day, and heard firecrackers going off. I wasn't bothered by it, because i slept fine.

I am camping, and I dont think I will ever not camp unless I was bringing a child but that wont be happening for a long time. Its so much fun and you dont have to kill yourself leaving to go back to your hotel room or bother with a huge line at the begining of each day since campers get their own entrance.

I think he meant "and now a myspace tent". I guess he thinks they are gonna add one? But he might be referring to where you could go and get on the internet and stuff.

I have heard nothing around the office of a myspace tent. I somehow doubt it. The thing in the camping last year was a dodge thing I think. And the webcast was done by ATT, they do all the festivals. Sorry no myspace though.

I havent heard what's up for this year yet.

Because there was a tent full of computers, and every single computer was always being used. And never once did I see a screen that showed a site other than myspace.

actually i used the computer to look up Depeche mode's setlist from the previous night at Shoreline Amph.. it was painfully slow so that's about all i did before leaving the "cyber cafe" I believe it was called.

the reason they were all on myspace is sadly because that is what people were checking. there's your core audience for you. but it wasn't a myspace tent, haha.

Camping at Coachella can be better than staying in hotels in a lot of ways. They pamper their campers!

Off-site camping can be cool too

I've written a couple articles about camping on-site and off-site at Coachella, check em out:

Thumbs up Re: Is anyone camping?

Camping was great. Easy access to / from the event, great people, etc.

The only weird thing was when I went to go take a shower and this chick cut out of the woman's line straight into the dudes shower because the line for the woman's shower was so long.

The reaction on the faces of the guys was pretty funny.

I camped last year, I'll camp again.

Did anyone who was camping in 06 see all the um, hairy balls traced through the dust on everyone's cars?

It was funny. I drove back to Washington, I think I saw cars with them all the way up to Utah.
