I think the one that stands out, but I don't know if it was exactly the first band I saw at coachella was Groove Armada's dj set in 2002. It was the perfect way to start my coachella experience...I've been to every single Coach since...

2004- the end of the set by Kinky and then the full Heiroglyphics set. they were great, but I never realized that Del was only about 5 foot tall.

Best set was Massive Attack last year. Utterly stunning...although I also liked the Chemical Brothers in 2005.

They palyed on the Outdoor Theater Stage which used to be located where they put the Sahara Tent now.

Does anybody remember them or this one time stage location?

I also remember seeing Danny Masterson, Moby, DJ Shadow, and Brian Jonestown Massacre standing next to me out in the crowd, therer might have been only 500-1000 people watching them. Good times.

First thing I saw at Coachella, was in ***9 (first day)....we walked onto the fairgrounds, and someone told me Maynard from Tools new band was performing at the main page in ten minutes.

We ran to the stage, and saw the first 'A Perfect Circle' show. There weren't enough originals yet to fill the half hour set, so they ended up playing a whole bunch of Cure covers. I was a Coachella addict in ten minutes flat, and have been every year since.
