I am looking forward to Busdriver. Spank Rock is cool I've seen them at a tiny record store in san diego called M-theory and they rocked all 5 of us there.

Ghostface is cool as well...as you can tell I'm having a hard time deciding.

Liquid Swords is THE best hip-hop album of all time I think.

So by default I would have to say Ghostface.

Wow. Let me just say, we were all wrong. The Roots did everything BUT bring hip hop. I don't know what they brought, but it's not what I paid for.

How can you start a set by playing samples of other songs (Everything from Nas to Mims) and claiming that "It's all hip hop" and "Hip hop is not dead" and then proceed to play a show almost completely devoid of hip hop?

"Hm, maybe we'll change the words of the national anthem, play that, then we'll throw in some Jungle Boogie just to make people feel good. Then we'll jam randomly for 10 minutes. The peak of the show will be The Seed 2.0, the only song that the white KROQ kids who attend Coachella will probably know, and end with an exciting 10 minute introduction of each member of our band.

Oh yeah, can't forget we have to remind everyone of our "legendary" status over and over again, because they won't be able to tell after our piss-poor set."

If hip hop is dying, it's because great hip hop acts like The Roots ignore the fact. I'm okay with fusing funk and jazz into a hip hop concert, but this wasn't a fusion. There was no hip hop. Thank God for Lupe Fiasco and Pharoahe Monch.
    Ron Paul 2012!

    Upcoming Shows:
    Four Tet
    Coachella 4/20-4/22
Death Cab for Cutie/Magik Magik Orchestra
    Radiohead
    some other bands

Pharoahe (I can never spell that) KILLED it. I was expecting him and a DJ but he had a full band and they were really live. Lupe was okay but Monch really was awesome, it's just a shame he didn't play "The Light."

I skipped Roots (seeing them at Rock the Bells) but that's a shame about their performance.

Dude, The Roots set was awesome. They've always been about all kinds of music. So what if they played a lot of rock-oriented stuff?

The Masters of War cover was INCREDIBLE. It was a kickass set. I'm sorry you couldn't appreciate it.
Just Say No to eurotrash nonsense. Rock n' roll will set you free.

Like I said in my post, it's okay to be about all kinds of music. But they are a hip hop group known for hip hop songs. Play SOME of them. Don't waste our time with Jungle Boogie. ESPECIALLY after telling us what hip hop is and what isn't. That performance wasn't hip hop...how ironic.

I really hope they're better at Rock the Bells.

    rap is not music

why waste your time even listening to that when there is so much better and more talented artist making real art with music.

Listening to Fiddy or Eminem and claiming to have any knowledge of hip-hop music is like listening to Nickelback and saying, "Rock and roll sucks."

Now go back to your cross burning, man.

calling someone racist, for not thinking that rap is music (stealing other peoples music and putting a beat over it and talking over it about materialistic items,) is not a logical conclusion.

now go back to your waste of time "music"

It's hilarious when people don't realize they're being had.

Btw, I was the last post of this thread before the bump, and I said I hoped the Roots would be better at Rock the Bells. They really weren't. It makes me sad to hate the Roots' live show.

I agree, it's time for Del to come to Coachella, or Hiero in full. Sunday maybe?

thatd be Fantastic. I missed Hiero in 2004.

anyone have any reviews of Del's performance in '01?

this will be Del's first album in roughly 7 years i believe. (11th Hour drops in early March) So you best know Del's got alot to say and its gonna be DOPE AS SHIT!
