My vote is that August of 2014 is a pretty dumb time to try to assess the best music of the 2010s.

I was thinking about this the other day, actually. I'm not going to make my list until December or January though. Still too much good stuff slated to be released in 2014.

Personal Favorites - Can't see Pitchfork giving much half-decade cred to the like of Dr. John, Anais Mitchell, Jason Isbell or Black Joe Lewis - I usually don't jive at all with their end of year songs lists, but usually find myself in a general sort of agreement with a lot of their top album choices.

Their top 3 will probably wind up being:
    My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
    Good Kid, M.A.D.D. City
    Channel Orange

    Blackfork

Jesus, is Pitchfork that starved for material that they're doing a Best of the Decade list not even five years into the decade? Dumb.

I heard there's a yet to be released album, New Reviews Here, with Gil Scott-Heron musing about potential Pitchfork ratings over JamieXX's remixes of unreleased Burial productions.

    I hope it places.

That's five years, right? They also did this for 2000-2004, so I'm not surprised.

We're not quite done with the fifth year yet.

Also, there's a thread for pitchfork stuff. This really didn't need its own thread.

Agreed with Deerhunter being an excellent surprise at #3.

Also surprised at the lack of Grizzly Bear, the National, and Shabazz Palaces and Bon Iver coming in so low considering it was their #1 album of 2011.

I guess we can pretty easily predict their top albums of this year as well.

The low thirties through the twenties are a lot of my favorites.

Also, 1) where the fuck is Shields?, 2) they've overrating Frank and Kendrick's juvenilia based on the successes of the follow-ups, 3) is there a way to kill rockism as a critical position without also elevating Beyonce this much?

    1. The staff members assigned to listen to the album for a fresh evaluation for this list are still asleep.
    2. The opposite applies to Deerhunter, Arcade Fire, Daft Punk, etc.
