Thread: FITCHELLA 2015! LETS DO THIS THING!

I completed a 3 day Ashtanga Yoga workshop this weekend. It was really fun and challenging. Unfortunately I was in New Orleans, so my healthy food plan went out the window. I'll be getting back on my food plan, doing cardio, and adding some weight training to my routine. I really hope to see the results I'm looking for in 6 weeks.

    Good luck to you all!

I've lost 6 lbs since the start of June by carefully managing calorie intake (1500 cals per day including 60% carbs, 30% protein, 20% fat), exercising and having a cheat day only on Saturdays. I ate healthily all day yesterday but had to fast from 7 pm to get some blood work done this morning at 730 am. Although I've had coffee and fruit and yogurt for breakfast since coming home I feel just awful...drained and groggy, really weak and my arm is quite achy. They did have to take a fair bit of blood as it was for my annual physical with a new family doctor and she's checking everything, but I don't know if it's normal to feel like this.. wondering if it's because of my limiting my calorie intake? Any input would be appreciated.

if i have caffeine on an empty stomach, it makes me feel awful. and fruit and yogurt don't seem like enough to absorb the coffee. could that be it? i hope you feel better. i had something similar happen when donating platelets, but that is a long process.

and i have been doing well, other than one week of binging i spent most of my medical leave watching my calories and portion sizes. i've stopped using myfitnesspal. i have been exercising for over a week now and feel great. i do think i get a better workout on the treadmill than walking outside. since it's so hot i use my apartment's treadmill instead of going outside which seems to be better for my skin too.

keep up the good work everyone!

Why did you decide to stop using MyFitnessPal? I've been using SparkPeople every day and it really helps keep me in line. Glad you are feeling better and doing well post recovery!

    Good for you.

I walked 3 miles this morning. Fruit is insanely cheap right now.
    Whiskey Sour

    2 oz blended whiskey
    Juice of 1/2 lemon
    1/2 tsp powdered sugar
    1 cherry
    1/2 slice lemon

Shake blended whiskey, juice of lemon, and powdered sugar with ice and strain into a whiskey sour glass. Decorate with the half-slice of lemon, top with the cherry, and serve.

so i've gone back to myfitnesspal. we will see how long it lasts. i've been doing well, it's just hard to track stuff made from scratch. i like their recipe section, but i feel like the sauces are way off. 900 calories for a serving of bolognese? 400 calories for a serving of pesto? granted, the serving sizes are just divided by the suggested serving of 4.

eventually i hope to be only eating home-cooked meals. i still bring in a lot of frozen meals for lunch because they are easy and low in calories. i find what's helping me cook from scratch more is planning my meals. for example, i made gnocchi and had leftover potatoes i used to make scalloped potatoes. i wish i enjoyed soup more so i could save scraps for soup.

anyway, just checking in. still on track! how is everyone else doing?

I jogged under a mile two times this week. I am trying to run for shorter sessions more days a week, but yesterday I didn't have time, and I don't know if I will have time today.

Good job on making more home-cooked meals, Ivy.

Good news: In N Out accidentally gave me a 4th piece of meat yesterday (4 X 2).

Bad news: Having a hard time getting water down each day. I'm drinking half filled cups of cold coffee on my desk.

Making a home cooked meal tonight and a little jelly that you are jogging. Good luck everyone.

    Seconded.

Ran a 10 miler over the weekend. I'm supremely jealous of people with thigh gap. Thank God for Aquaphor and Body Glide.

I'm supposedly doing a half-marathon in three weeks. If you know anything about Atlanta in August, you also know this could be the height of folly.

After pulling my groin in a soccer game recently I've realized that I really need to work on strengthening a lot of my dilapidated leg muscles, especially my adductors. I did some very simple, basic strength exercises on Friday afternoon and my inner thighs have been so sore and tender all weekend as a result.

Seems weight loss is a big motivator for working out and getting fit. I get it. But it wasn't for me. I just like being active and it makes me feel good. That said, I am down to 177 lbs. Dropped 21 lbs since Jan of last year. Tennis did it for me. 3-4 hours every weekend. I love playing and my game has really improved thanks to my instructor. And I run stairs twice a week for 40 minutes per to keep me ready. Trying to break into the advanced class on a regular basis... but man those guys are good.

Cooking at home and lowering (but not eliminating) my intake on carbs helped too. I also limit the use of fat in my cooking and stick with olive oil for anything fried. I don't eat butter, at least not intentionally. And I keep red meat at a minimum. You can have my beer when you pry it from my cold, inebriated hands.

Well if you ever have the urge to eat McDonalds or any other fast food I just saw this video that might persuade you otherwise.

I'm in on this... I am in good shape now but my last real race is mid-September and I am worried about needing motivation over the winter months...

i am 2 pounds away from my goal! i've been eating healthy and working out pretty regular since my last surgery. one question that will sound really stupid, but what are the concerns around cholesterol? i started using my fitness pal again and every morning when i log my one hard boiled egg, the app warns me that it's high in cholesterol. i seem to go slightly over on cholesterol each day, but not much. how unhealthy is that? next year i am supposed to start getting "regular" cholesterol checks, so maybe that will tell me if i need to be concerned.

I wouldnt worry to much about 1 egg a day. But then again, check with your doctor or get an appointment with a lipid specialist. Try just eating egg whites if you are really worried though.

thanks. i'm not too worried as i am pretty healthy vitals wise. i never have weird blood pressure or shit like that. and i have been to the hospital a lot over the past few years and cholesterol has never been a concern in any of the random tests. i just don't know much about nutrition or what to worry about with cholesterol. and i find it odd that one egg a day pushes me to the limit of my daily cholesterol goals, even though i have always thought eggs are healthy. i also always thought the nutrition was really in the yolk, but maybe i don't know what i'm talking about.

The yolk provides alot of nutriotional benefits as well, but if you eat healthy enough and drink enough water or green tea it should kinda battle the cholesterol levels that one egg a morning provides. Excercise and healthy diet should help with any minor "bad" foods, but if youre eating like shit (fast food, lots of red meat, etc) then i would be careful with that morning egg.

I finished my last ultra event of the season on the weekend (placed 3rd in my class -yay!)

My body is pretty beat up but I feel proud. I hope I am still in decent form by April. Going to be a long, cold winter...
