Here's what I would use this for..I'm not into the virtual world stuff (I'm old...but I'm also a planner). If I were planning on coming to Coachella for the first time, I would LOVE having something like this to explore. You can look at old maps and pictures people have taken but with no frame of reference, there is no real idea of what your experience will be like. Say I want to go to Primavera in the next couple of years. Having something like this that shows me the layout would give me a huge girl boner.

Is there going to be in option in the future to use the mouse to move the camera? I keep wanting to use FPS controls in this.

Alternate control schemes are possible but a bit tricky. We initially tried an FPS setup but it confused a lot of non-gamers. We'd like to set it up so that users have the option of choosing between the two, but again, we were kinda pressed for time and had to make a call. But yes, future iterations would have that option.

Using chrome, I uploaded photos and they often didn't show up in my photos. Logged out, logged in, they showed up once, but never again.

Anybody speak French and wanna translate this? http://www.tsugi.fr/news/2014/04/25/...virtuelle-4617

- See more at: http://www.tsugi.fr/news/2014/04/25/....aMeesskF.dpuf

Remember, we were at Coachella and we told you everything, including need to push this festival from its majestic pedestal. And one can imagine that it has not cut you want to go, which seems logical given the crazy programming attending. This is already what to spend a little your frustration.

VRation, it speaks to you? We, not known before this morning. And we can tell you that we spent quite some time to roam in the digital aisles of the California festival which, according to our special envoys there, are quite similar. Expected a digitized to Astropolis quickly eh version.

Is that what Google Translate spit out, 'cause I did that and I was like, "... I have no idea what these Frenchies are saying, but it sounds mildly positive."

I tried a different translator but it almost came across as insulting..

Remember, we belonged to Coachella and we told everything to you, in particular that it was necessary to push this festival of majestic sound base. And we imagine that it did not either get away to you the desire(envy) to go there, what seems logical seen nutcase's programmings which appear at it. Here is already of what to cross(spend) a little your frustration. VRation, that speaks to you? Us, we did not know before this morning. And we can tell you that we crossed(spent) quite a lot of time(weather) to wander about in paths digitized(scanned) by the Californian festival which, according to our special correspondents over there, are completely resembling. We wait for a version digitized(scanned) by Astropolis quickly eh

Starting to see an interesting trend--people are posting pictures from old Coachellas too, going all the way back to 2005. Our intention was kinda always to make a permanent way to track all your Coachella memories, but I didn't expect this. Nice work.

This is getting pretty interesting. Wondering how long before/whether a major outlet picks it up. At which point, there's a very good chance the traffic will crush us. =)

Much thanks to Algunz, Tommy, HCB, MeYouSeek, Boourns, and everybody else who's been uploading some great pics. I have to go through them all to moderate them (make sure they're not porn or pics of you doing lines off some chick's ass) and it's a lot of fun seeing all these shots in one long stream. Seeing some of the stuff uploaded from older years is also a blast. It's trippy how much everything has changed and grown.

Very cool. Have you thought of pitching this to other festivals as a service to promote the experience.

... that hasn't crossed my mind at all, no. =) Yeah, that's the ideal end goal--to have a global network of festivals. That way before you decide you want to drop 2 grand on tickets, accommodations, and flights to, say, Glastonbury or another Euro fest (or really any fest who wants to bring us in), you can go and see what the place actually looks like, browse around, check out people pictures to see what the crowd was like and how the stages looked and the such. At least, that's the hope.

Incidentally, anybody who knows anyone connected to any festivals in other countries, please let me know, I'd love to be put in touch with them.

Really well done. I'll be uploading some of my pics later. Also, thoughts on making the ferris wheel more interactive to where you can view the grounds from up high?

Well, you can go back to the album cube you created and by dragging an image out of the toolbar at the top and just dropping it anywhere outside the top-screen toolbar, it will remove that image from the album.

Also, get ready for a big new feature add up this week. This one is going to be a lot of fun. If you've ever wished that you could be sitting at home and play your own music with a giant music festival's lighting setup synced up to your own tunes... well... you have no idea what's coming. If you don't already own one, you'll want to get your hands on an 1/8th inch male-to-male audio cable so that you can hook your iPod into the Microphone In port on your computer. Looks like this:

Nice piece by Boourns himself about us. http://lyynks.com/innovations-vratio...oachella-2014/

Also, get ready for a new round of updates either tomorrow or Wednesday. For those of you (mostly Mac users from what I gather) who have been having browser or other issues that just make it unusable, we're going to have some PC and Mac standalone packages you can just download and play with with zero lag or glitching. Unfortunately, the photo upload system will only work through the website, but it's still something.

Also, one extremely cool thing involving that cable I mentioned to come as well. This one will be a blast for everybody out there wanting to feel like they have a giant lightshow behind them.

If you were having trouble getting VRation to run through your web browser, we now have some standalone Mac and PC packages for download. Tomorrow, big new toy coming, can't wait to see what you all think of it. Downloads link: http://bit.ly/1n3jGjV

You know what would be cool? If you could go to a tent or a stage and watch a video of a band's performance. I know there's all sorts of issues with that (probably both technological and legal) but still it'd be cool.

Also, it would be cool to have a bomb feature so we could blow up the Sahara tent and watch the headless bro-corpses fly all over the place.

This is so flipping cool. Lastgreatman, what's the plan, is this just for fun, or are you trying to license this out to festivals/etc?

some kind of grand theft auto mode would certainly be great. after it is filled with simulated people that wander around semi-unintelligently, of course.

Tom--having the actual sets be playing on the stage was one of the first things we wanted to do with this, because we can easily embed a youtube window and make it fit the size of the stage exactly. So like, if we just got a special feed that didn't cut back and forth between closeups and crowd shots and stuff but just showed a medium shot of the stage itself, we could literally have it look almost EXACTLY like you were watching the set in the middle of the festival. We can even make it so that the sun moves according to the real-time time of day, rather than just have a daytime, sunset, and nightime setting. We played around with it, but eventually decided it just wasn't worth it to add another button into the interface. But yes, that is one of our hopes for the future of this.

Ameeps--Thanks! Really appreciate the positive feedback, please share it out through your various social networks if you wouldn't mind. We've had kind of a steep dropoff in visits the past few days, we're trying to unroll some additional features (one that I think is really killer is ready to go but we're probably going to hold off on Monday to announce it just because Friday is a bad day to try to catch web traffic).

The long-term plan for this is to create a network of festivals to let us come in and do this for them. It's infinitely scalable, all we need is cooperation from the promoter, access to the site, and a relatively small amount of money to be able to model any festival we go to (depending on the size, of course--Glastonbury would be expensive and require a ton of additional modelers to do it justice).

Right now, we're really just trying to find another project to keep the momentum going. One of my first thoughts was Lightning in a Bottle. We have some connections to the people who run it but for various reasons we're a little bit tentative to try to use them (my partner's girlfriend is really good friends with the Do Lab people, but asking her to put us in contact with them kinda crosses that barrier between boyfriend/girlfriend comfort zone, you know what I mean I'm sure). If anybody on here could put me in touch with the LiB crew, I'd love to get a talk with them. We already have a lot of what we'd need ready to go for it since we just did the Do Lab for Coachella and a lot of the art seems to repeat at LiB. It'd be easy and cheap.

LiB is a great idea for a second festival. Accessible, not too large, and very visually appealing. Since it is a smaller festival that typically reaches a smaller audience it would also probably help initiate activity of people exploring a festival they haven't been to rather than just reminiscing.
