Default My 1st Coachella.....a magical experience

This weekend was just perfect. I saw some life changing sets (Neutral Milk Hotel, Arcade Fire) Had the time of my life with my friends (Future Islands, Foxygen, AF) I just had a greater appreciation for the artists i saw this weekend and their music, i'm really bummed i missed out these past years. I always wanted to have the Coachella experience and i finally did and it was just life changing. I know many aren't too satisfied this year because of the bigger crowds and what not but from the sets I saw, Coachella was amazing.

Fav sets: AF, NMH, QotSA, Beck, Blood Orange, Future Islands, The Replacements, Foxygen

This was my 10th, and while not the best, it was definitely far from the worst... Sunday was my favorite day, by far...

This was my 8th year (not counting double weekends). This was one of my best overall. I found so many new acts that I am excited to watch their careers. The best weather, ever (Weekend 2, of course).

this was #9 for me - it was a mixed bag. Friday was my single best day at Coachella ever. Though Saturday and Sunday I felt like I was wandering around the grounds without as much urgency to see certain bands. As someone stated above, the weather this year was probably the best I've ever seen (weekend 2). I'd probably rank it tied for 3rd or 4th best - 2013, 2010, 2007, 2014, 2006.

Fuck what everyone is saying. The best part is now being able to understand people's passion when discussing this event.

My first was in 2002. I had been married for 6 years and it was a decision based on a whim to get out of town. Spent most of the days during those initial years in the pool and soaking in the sun. We drove in right before the sun went down. We'd be lucky to see 4-5 acts. Then we started going an hour earlier, then I got more interested and came to this message board.

People on this board were horrible, just fucking horrible, but then I got it. It was a dark comedy kind of love for one another. Some of the worst were actually very informative about types of music I'd never even heard of. Then I started going alone and speaking face to face with actual people on this board. Then there was the Chris Hansen conversation with the wife that I was going out of town and staying in a hotel room with complete strangers to watch a concert.

Coachella has obviously become something different over the years. It was eye rolling this year to come across a "what were celebrities wearing at Coachella" episode of entertainment tonight after coming home or to read the story in the dessert sun that Coachella will now be selling merchandise in stores.

Coming across this thread brought it down to it's organic form. A prime location, great artists and great people, makes for a life changing experience.
    Whiskey Sour

    2 oz blended whiskey
    Juice of 1/2 lemon
    1/2 tsp powdered sugar
    1 cherry
    1/2 slice lemon

Shake blended whiskey, juice of lemon, and powdered sugar with ice and strain into a whiskey sour glass. Decorate with the half-slice of lemon, top with the cherry, and serve.

Many many years ago, when I was fresh-faced 19, I first found about a new festival called Coachella in 1999. I have always been a music nerd and this was something that I knew I had to attend one day. Money was always an issue (small town BC girl, had to make ends meet first), and if it wasn't money it was that I wasn't well-traveled/had no one to go with. 14 years later, with a good paying job in Calgary and a few solo trips under my belt, I was finally ready to attend my first Coachella.

Drove down alone, experienced the Utah canyons and Mojave desert...picked up a friend in Vegas enroute and experienced one of the best weekends of my life. So sad that at 33 I had missed out, but I know now that I'm probably a lifer (or at least until the bros drive me out). I wish I had attended the years prior when indie music was draw, and not so much catered to the EDC crowd (I was one of the 98 The Dismemberment Plan fans haha) but I had an amazing and memorable weekend regardless.

It was a magical experience, thanks for sharing your first year story, OP. I'm a longtime lurker of the board, suffering from years of envy, I'm glad I got to experience what keeps all of you coming for. Also, somehow luck was with me during the presale and managed to score tickets on layaway (not bragging, just surprised it worked!) ...so see you at Coachella 2015

I took my niece this year and it was her first Coachella. It was so fun to see it through her eyes. She thought it felt like a magical scene from Shrek. The one where all the fairy tale creatures meet for the first time in Shrek's swamp.

You heard it here first. Coachella is comparable to "Shreck."

Year 6 for me this year. 3 flights, 19 hours and 6000 miles from the UK. Although it took 44 hours to get home this time

Addicted to that rush, the 1pm band on a hot Friday afternoon.

It's getting better all the time.

This year was the best for new music.
