Talking Coachella 2015 - Newb travelling from Ireland

    Hi all,

I hope you all enjoyed your Coachella 2014 weekend(s)!

I am hoping to travel to Coachella 2015 and being completely new to Coachella, I have a few questions some of which I'm sure have been answered a million times (I'm new to the thread aswell so finding my way around is difficult) so I apologise in advance. So, I would like to purchase the VIP Package for either weekend. So my questions are:

    1. How will I Know when the pre-sale is taking place?
    2. Is it possible to undertake a payment plan for VIP tickets?
    3. Should I camp on-site or at a nearby hotel? (I have heard that camping can be very hot and remember, I'm Irish - I might melt!)
    4. How much $ would I need for the entire weekend?

Thanks in advance for any help/answers that you can give me!

Follow them on FB. Payment plans are possible. If you don't do well in heat, or need your rest-then camping is probably not for you. Cost depends on your style...there are VIP packages for sale that come with 2 VIP tix with nice hotel accommodations etc. If you want to camp and be near the campground action I believe the safari tents have AC but I could be wrong....you could do coachella weekend anywhere from $500 and up in the thousands; depends on you.

    Hi,

Thanks for this. So the VIP tickets come with hotel accommodations?? I think we are going to go for the VIP tickets and the campsite will probably be too hot, particularly in a tent. Coachella to me is a once in a lifetime thing, especially since I am travelling all that way so I want to ensure that it is planned well in advance

VIP tickets do NOT come with hotel, but there are some travel packages available which bundle together VIP passes with a hotel. You may want to look into sites such as AirBnB.com for accommodations. People rent their private homes at usually fairly decent prices. If you have a group of people, this is a great way to go.
I hope to someday die of spontaneous human combustion, and in my final moments, I want to give each and every one of you a hug.

Oh ok, that could be a good option. Do you know what website does the VIP Ticket and accommodation packages? It's just myself and my girlfriend - will this affect costs a lot? Thanks

    1. i would expect presale to happen within the next few months. it's been a few years since i have participated, but i think it happens around the end of may/early june. i could be wrong.
    2. why do you want VIP? it's twice the price and the biggest benefit is access to two different tents/bars.

There are a limited number of VIP passes available for purchase. A VIP festival pass allows access into the venue, day parking lots and the TWO venue VIP areas all 3 days. May also visit camping areas. The main VIP area is located adjacent to the main stage (under white peaked tents) and consists of shaded areas, picnic tables, couches, extra restrooms, food & beverage vendors and a full cash bar. The second VIP area is located directly next to the Sahara tent in the beautiful Rose Garden complete with seating, extra restrooms, food & beverage vendors, full cash bar, a spectacular view and thousands of roses.
    VIP Parking is sold SEPARATELY.
(+ additional charge for international shipping)

    3. if you like to party and meet new people, camping is probably the way to go. if you like sleep and air conditioning, get a hotel. and reserve it as soon as you can. the coachella/indio area is terribly small. palm springs is a bit further, but has more options. also consider that if you stay off-site, you will probably want to have a car, unless you stay at the hotel with a shuttle pass. there are cabs, but sometimes there can be a long wait.
    4. i can't answer this really. take into account roughly $10 beers, $2 waters, normal food prices for a festival, merchandise, and incidentals.

    have fun!

Skip the VIP. It's not worth it. Go General Admission. Buy a camping pass now and decide later if you want to use it, because they won't be available later.

also most camping is car camping, so you would need a car for that.

Valley Music Travel. This is who puts together the shuttles/tickets/hotel packages. Plus now you can take a shuttle directly from LAX & back directly from whatever hotel you choose. If I were coming from a long way, this is what I would do. It's just so simplified.
That, and a good 100 spf sunblock.

Thanks for all of your answers/suggestions! We have done the camping at feativals here and again, going all that way, we would like to experience VIP (these are not really an option over here). Also, we will not be renting a car so shuttle buses and/or cabs would be our only option. Do people advertise their private homes/room rentals on CL or where?

There are tons listed on Craigslist, but I'd look for places to stay on AirBNB or through a rental agency (check the camping/lodging forum for a thread about a bunch of people who got scammed this year) where you have more assurances about the validity of the property and easier recourse in case anything goes wrong. Similarly, if you're renting through VRBO or Homeaway use their payment systems and take out insurance.

We already rented a place in Palm Springs through ACME for 2015, though if you're not renting a car you might want to be sure to look for places close to a shuttle line.

Yes I think the car may be an issue but hopefully we can rely on shuttle buses and/or public transport. I had a look through Valley Music and there are some very interesting offers on there. Is this a reliable site? Is it legit?

Niall - Valley Music Travel are perfectly legit - we have travelled over from N.Ireland twice before (2015 will be our 3rd) and have used VMT both times - they are excellent.

If you aren't hiring a car then I suggest you get the shuttle from LAX

    Enjoy

So the trick if your travelling from Ireland is to fly into LAX early, hire a car, find yourself a target , buy a tent and sleeping bags, leave the wellies at home, your not going to Oxegen or EP ...you've signed up for Coachella.com already so keep an eye out for an announcement soon. Buy your pre release tickets and expect an international hold for pickup at a nearby Tennis center. camp onsite you can binge drink and pass out in the tent..hotel packages are expensive but if you can afford it the pool is nice and the maids love cleaning up the puke while you go off to the show day 2...from another Mick who has done this a few times..PS with your pasty skin expect to burn...

Starting next year Coachella will be offering shuttle service from LAX. So getting to the festival will not be to hard.

How many of you guys are going? Have you considered being adopted for the coachella experience? I adopted a wicked fun English man this coachella and he was a riot. Im defiantly looking to adopt some one for next year.

    Hey,

I found your thread looking for some inspiration as we're hoping to get tickets for 2015 and we'd be travelling from Scotland. We've booked a hotel already through Hotels.com which had free cancellation (in the very sad event we don't manage to get tickets!) and plan on getting a GA ticket with shuttle package. The hotel we've prebooked is a short walk to one of the pick up points (see the Valley Travel website which tells you which routes pick up from which hotels) so we know what to aim for when we try to buy. We thought we'd need a hotel as we're planning on making it a 2+ week holiday and will have suitcases etc which we won't be able to camp with.

From the looks of it the presale for the festival opened in May last year but keep an eye on the website & Facebook etc and you can either pay international delivery charges or pick tickets up from the box office (Will Call) - only issue for foreigners like us is that this is not directly outside the festival but a couple of miles away. It looks like it was open from the Wednesday/Thursday this year so you could get down to pick them up in advance if you have a car with you otherwise it may prove difficult to pick them up(and presumably you'd need them for the shuttle as well).

Fingers crossed for getting tickets though - i've been to T almost every year since 2000 and have hit Rockness and a few smaller festivals but Coachella looks amazing!

    Hi all,

I think we are going to go for one of the packages available through VMT. As Mellamoalexis mentioned, we will also be going on a 'holiday' either before or after Coachella to L.A. We will not be hiring a car as we don't drive so I think we may have a lot of planning to do in relation to travel, timings and as also mentioned previously, either collecting the tickets beforehand or having them shipped here! Domeki - we have had a few 'adoption' offers which sound cool but we will be going for the hotel package. It is just my girlfriend and I.

I would select pick up from will call rather than international delivery of your wristbands - Ive seen a few people on here travelling from abroad who have still been waiting for delivery just before they are due to fly out.....

Went for first time 2014 and as far as I could tell, there is zero reason to buy a VIP pass. The GA pass worked great and the entire experience was incredible as is, no perks necessary and GA passes cost MUCH less.

We stayed in Cathedral City (near Palm Springs) and took the shuttle to festival. It worked GREAT. I would NOT do the camping unless you wanted to enjoy the party scene in the campgrounds. With temps close to 100 and or possible wind/sand storms camping is a potential nightmare if you are not prepared adequately. Get a room somewhere, you'll be much more comfortable in a real bed with a nice shower at the end of the day.

RE: Shuttle...we took Palm Springs Shuttle in one day but coming back the PS shuttle took FOREVER to board...everyone was going back to Palm Springs apparently and we waited in line for an hour at least Friday night. The other days we did park n ride at Agua Caliente Casino and it a breeze! TONS of parking and at end of night there was no wait to get on the shuttle.

And remember...sunscreen sunscreen sunscreen...you can't use enough. Seriously.
