Thread: Moving the Do LaB = No Good

Default Moving the Do LaB = No Good

The Spirit of the Do LaB is gone.

Instead of being a hub where you could take a break and rendezvous. It has become a pseudo destination. Sure there used to be some music bleed but that happens anyways between Main and Outdoor

Anyhow, I missed hanging out and cooling off at the Do LaB between treks this year and totally did not find it worthwhile to take the long route on my to see the artists I came for.

I did get over to see Kastle of course

Almost everyone here will disagree with you, but I did miss it being in the middle of it all. I completely understand why they moved it though. I think if it switched spots with the yupa it might be better. Plus, then the beer barn could enjoy it as well.

I think I will agree with this after the weekend. At least the do lab is run by such great people. They will keep the spirit alive, even if the function changes.

I hate it when I have to go to the bathroom to take a shit. I much prefer to do it in a room full of people. You can take a break and rendezvous.

It was great having all that open space in the middle.

Yeah I am not sure what the right answer is but I did miss it. Be nice if they would throw up some misters or something where it used to be.

Would be cool if it is where the Heineken setup is but there would still be sound bleed compared to the enclosed "dome", and I am sure they pay a good premium to be there. But I did find myself at Heineken more and the Do LaB less. And that was not ideal.

And Yuma was much better this year.

It would have been too hard to squeegee those mirrors all day.

I did miss having it in the center, yeah. Was always fun to pop in for a song or two and cool off, and I tended to get sucked in by the party atmosphere as I walked by. This year I think I only spent like 15 minutes on one day in there, it was just too far out of the way to bother with.

Moving the Do Lab was awesome, best layout change in a long time.

I honestly think this was the best move they could have ever done. The 5 acres they added were clutch!

Aside from reducing the awful noise bleed, at several points in the day getting between stages was atrocious this year; I imagine that it would've been worse with the Do Lab back in its usual position.

Unless having it triangulated between Outdoor--Coachella--Gobi actually helped?

I'm glAd they moved it. It would bleed in to the main and outdoor stages.

I think the do lab would work in the main campground.

I loved the Do Lab in the corner. For one, it gave you something to do if you were in the Terrace but didn't want to go to the craft beer garden. You could grab some food, sit under the shady trees and listen to the Do Lab artists. Or you could go in there and hang out if you wanted to. I loved how they decorated the trees around to Do Lab too.

Next, the open space in the middle of the field made it feel like old Coachella to me. The first few Coachellas I went to, there was room to walk around day and night, which makes for nicer people. People not tripping over you or your stuff when you're trying to relax. People moving over if they are walking toward you and see they're in your direct walking path. I think moving the Do Lab solved a lot of logistic and sound issues plus gave the Do Lab a chance to shine and be less of an inconvenience for so many. It was way better!

    Best. Move. Ever.

I caught TEED (so good!!!) and K Theory, and it felt like I was walking into a whole new part of town, curated by the amazing minds of the Do Lab.

I think this is the best Coachella layout to date.

I liked the new space but it made for a lot more walking. I'll have to get in more walking/standing training for next year.
I hope they improve the drainage for next year. No one moved up to the stage for Blond:ish due to the large puddle from earlier in the day.
