    Default Loudest band of 2014?

Mogwai ended up being mine even though I thought they could of been louder. I missed Motörhead and Bo Ningen. Is the real answer Calvin Harris? Please say no.

Honestly it probably was Calvin, could hear him clearly and still relatively loud in line at the Gobi bathrooms, people were dancing along the edges of the gobi too

There is a difference between being loud and utilizing all the delay towers for large crowds.

Whats the deal with the delay towers? Does the soundboard compensate for the delay? Why do you call them that? I have spent a lot of time thinking about what goes into the sound engineering mainstage and at the outdoor theater.

They not only help keep high sound quality far away from the stage, they are also a requirement in the permit agreement between the festival and the city of indio.

    Some good info here:
    http://linecheck.soundgirls.org/2014...coachella-q-a/
    and here
    http://www.ratsound.com/cblog/archives/2009/04.html%20
The Main stage and Outdoor Theater rely on multiple delay clusters that scale up and down the amount of coverage depending on the size of the audiences. There is some middle ground area that gets captured by one stage or the other depending.

Agreed on both accounts. And what was so incredible about Bo Ningen's use of noise/volume was that it actually made the songs better than just making them louder.

I was at both sets in their entirety.. right in front of the soundboard for both. Bo Ningen were louder by a fair amount.

Yeah. This. I have never heard a band so loud and so damn clear. There were parts that were heavy as fuck and all 4 of them were doing something completely different, but you could hear the intricacies of each instrument perfectly. There was no unintentional white noise. They are absolute masters of their craft. God damn... Bo Ningen put on an incredible set.

Motorhead practically had my ears bleeding by the end, not that I didn't totally expect that. It was a high energy show (minus the 2 hour drum solo) that only got better when Slash showed up.

AFI was pretty loud. Not in a bad way, just noticed we had to walk up a bit during HAIM.

Every time I hear someone gush about Bo Ningen my heart decreases in size from how ignorant I was for not researching Sunday well enough.

Julian's set was by far the loudest I heard this last weekend. I was actually digging it, but that was the set we chose to meet up with friends for (hoping he'd play a Strokes song or two) and they couldn't take the volume/dissonance after 3 songs. Honorable mention to Mogwai during Mogwai Fear Satan.

I thought the beginning of Frank Turner was pretty loud; scared the shit out of everyone haha It got better.
Calvin Harris was pretty loud, too. We could hear him clearly while waiting for Lana.
