Just curious as I will be going to Weekend 2 and I wanted to get people's opinions on how it was on the fields.

Windy and dusty as fuck on Friday and Saturday. Not too bad on Sunday.

Same thing happened Sunday evening last year.
I wore my hoodie, a scarf around my nose/mouth, and my sunglasses all night.
We were blowing dirt from our noses for like a week after.
It can get pretty bad; just come prepared.

There is absolutely no way to tell if the weather will be the same weekend 2. Desert weather can be very unpredictable.

somewhat windy all weekend, saturday afternoon/evening was really the only time the sand was significant enough to be a problem. it was almost an exact repeat of weekend 1 sunday last year except the sand storm wasn't nearly as bad. it still totally sucked balls but i only saw a hand full of destroyed canopies whereas last year there were literally hundreds all over the camp site.

drinky and baily pretty much nailed it: no way to know for sure ahead of time, come prepared. bring something to cover your mouth/nose and glasses help a lot for the sand. if it happens just try to accept it and deal with it as best you can rather than focusing on how shitty it is. if you are prepared it will make this much easier.

I regretted not bringing clear eye-wear. Felt like someone sandpapered my eyes. Maybe I'll get some Kareem goggles or some Skrilly glasses next year.
I have been to concerts. I will go to concerts in the future.

Bring goggles and a gas mask. Seriously. It's the only thing that made Saturday even remotely tolerable to walk around in, costs like 20 bucks total.

This. I would have given my left nut for some goggles

There's always the one thing you forget - and this year it was my prescription glasses. Had to look like an idiot wearing my sunglasses all night on Saturday then spend Sunday picking rocks out of my eyes. AWESOME

The dust is always horrid, even with winds that are pretty low. Find a light shining up from the ground at night and you will see how bad it is. Always wear a bandana on those fields if you are at risk, it's a harsh environment even for "healthy" people.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Good advice here. I have some pretty good Oakley running/biking goggles and I may actually consider wearing those.

They were selling (kind of shitty) bandanas at merch for 10 bucks a pop -- if it looks sandstormy and you don't have anything else, definitely get one. My hideous green bandana saved me from breathing a ton of dust and I was a lot better off on Sunday than friends who didn't get one.

It was pretty fierce. I don't think quite as bad as 2013 in terms of wind speed, but it started earlier so everyone was breathing the whipped up sand for a lot longer.

I was wondering how you were doing on Saturday night. That had to be brutal for you.

Do yourself a favor and check the NOAA website each morning - there was a hazardous weather outlook announcement which warned us of the windstorm on Saturday and about the evening gusts on Sunday.

I would highly recommend some cheap clear goggles and a bandana/mask/scarf. I just had my perscription glasses and scarf on Saturday and was seriously jealous of those that had the goggles. Don't risk it, just bring it.

They told us Saturday to break down camp because of the upcoming storm. Yea sure. If you make your camp right, it has to be a lot more violent than what it was to even consider breaking camp. Wimpy storm but be prepared for weekend two just in case..... cr****

We were only there from when Mgmt started until maybe 20 minutes after Queens finished. Kept the bandana on the whole time and added a dust mask under it about halfway through. Not feeling any negative effects from the weather thankfully.

Sunday of last year was waaaay worse. That sand was flying so fast it hurt. This year was nasty, but a bandana and glasses solved the problem.

Bandanas are cheap at craft stores or even Target. Get it there.

Sunglasses would work but an enclosed device like goggles would be better. Think of Steampunk theme. I was miserable Saturday with my sunglasses. It was not cutting it due to my contacts.

in 6 years at coachella i have never been so dusty in my life than on saturday. weather.com did warn a couple days beforehand that they predicted 17mph winds. I am extremely fair and i had a legit dust tan. I also wore sunglasses/reading glasses all day and it did basically nothing.

No joke, that would be ideal. It really made me pretty miserable at one point on Saturday. Just pack them to be safe.
