Thread: Upgrades to the Yuma tent?

  1. #1

Cool Upgrades to the Yuma tent?

Can any weekend 1 people shed some light on the the Yuma tent situation? Did they increase the size of the dome? Is there a beer garden in there now? Maybe a water station? Thanks!

The size has doubled and it's in the shape of an L now. There is a group of bathrooms in an outside area near the entrance.

breezed right in for that. the line was deceptive, it was flowing quick.

only went in for nina kraviz. a stellar set absolutely ruined by abysmal sound quality. not sure if the acoustics of the space are problematic or the system wasn't tuned properly.

The entire festival is one huge Sahara tent weekend 1. The crowd is not nearly as bad weekend 2, way more people there for the music, not just to be scene. Weekend 2 FTMFW.

it's mostly music that serves as a way station btw Avicii fandom and the exploration of forward-thinking strains of dance music. cookie-cutter tech house masquerading as "deep" house.

Can anyone else comment on this? Did the sound get better throughout the weekend? House music with bad sound is not worth listening to

Call it what you want, but whatever it was guided me into getting my dance on last night...And, whatever line I may have seen seemed to always be moving.
Its like the Infinite Monkey Theorem, if you put X amount of monkeys in a room with a typewriter and ask them to give you Shakespeare 99% of them will fling their shit at you while the other 1% will masturbate in the corner.

It was never a problem getting in, but I only went in a couple of times. I dunno, as much as I really want to like it it, to echo sentiments previously stated, it just doesn't quite feel like Coachella in there.

Definitely did not feel like the Sahara at all for the acts we saw - sounds was pretty good (caught Aeroplane and Laurent Garnier), no complaints at all, tons of room then. Heard Hot Since 82 got a big crowd and line, but didn't hear much fuss about it other than that. Bathrooms in the middle were great/never crowded.

i love all the acts in there but i hate that it is inside. I agree it doesn't feel like coachella. It is nice that it has AC but isn't part of Coachella that you are out in the hotness? I hope the location doesn't keep me from seeing some of the artists i want to see this weekend

EDM cork sniffer. best to just ignore and move on. you've never heard of their favorite DJ anyways.

i popped in sunday night when i realized i still hadn't checked out the yuma. sounded really good to me and reminded me a bit of the old sahara, the bass was intense. big improvements all around compared to last year.

no. the Yuma entrance is on the back of the tent. there are multiple entrances in, and multiple exits out. they expanded a little courtyard area back there and had about 20 bathrooms and a food truck. you were allowed to exit to the bathrooms/food, but if you wanted to exit entirely (into the terrace area) you had to go through the tent itself. not a bad system.

My goodness. They need to get their sound on lock. (although I'm sure the majority of the crowd didn't even notice)

I couldn't find the sweet spot in there all weekend. Everything was drowned out by bass. Also, the "line" was just a way keep things under control. Didn't find myself standing in line even once. It was always moving.

I didn't notice any major sound issues for Cajmere or Nicole's set, though the bass sounded a bit muddled during Bicep's set on Sunday night. I didn't have any issues with the crowd because the times I was in there the place was maybe half full and there was plenty of space to dance. I mean, sure, it's full of your standard sloppy LA tank top tech house enthusiasts that think they are on the cutting edge and beyond the triteness of Sahara EDM. I don't expect that to change any time soon, though, and I don't expect GV to start booking the types of acts that are more appealing to me (and lucky, more available to me thanks to how excellent SF's scene is).

It seemed the system couldn't handle when multiple tracks were layered over one another, as when the sound got really dense it turned into a bit of a soupy mess. Her set really was ace btw, it's just too bad she started like half an hour late.

I came in about 20 minutes early for Duke Dumont and heard there was a crazy line outside closer to his set time. Otherwise, it never took more than 5 minutes to get in for any of the 10+ sets I saw. The line may look long, but it moves consistently and never reached the point of being "1 in 1 out". Its a pretty huge tent...

And, get real, it may have been pretty "bro-ey", but nothing is as bad as Sahara...

yeah, not sure what that was all about. she was in the booth for a while during damian lazarus' set iirc. worked out nicely for me tho as I had been worried about missing the whole thing some 3/4 of the way through a ridiculous 100 min shuttle ride from Palm Springs (during which the driver lost his way multiple times and refused passenger entry into the bathroom. 1/2 bailed out at the rite aid on Monroe)

Pretty decent improvments for the yuma. Bigger size and more room to dance to. Water and food truck were at close at hand. Bass was the same from last year, but managable to dance overall. Saw aero and martinez bros with no complaints!

IMO, I mostly rather hear 8-10 quality tracks in one hour in the yuma then 15 - 30 tracks in one hour in the sahara!

my comments about the yuma being a mini-Sahara in terms if crowd, as others have suggested, weren't exactly fair. In my defense, they were posted prior to my visiting the Sahara-adjacent beer garden on Sunday.

excellent people watching but yikes. Can only imagine what it's like inside the actual tent.

I hated the Yuma last year. Thought they did a great job with it this year. Huge amount of space, never took more than 3 minutes to get in for me. Sound varied greatly depending on where you stood but was for the most part great. Lighting was absolutely insane. Saw Nicholas Jaar (one of the best of the weekend), Tiga, Sander K, Guy Gerber, Laurent Garnier, and popped in for a few others. The courtyard with the bathrooms and water was a great idea.
