If I obviously knew when he was touring, why would I ask "when does his tour kick off?" I had no clue about his tour dates or that he was planning on not doing festivals and doing his own arena shows -- I just thought he might be a possibility as a big name EDM artist they'd book b/c he's played TI before.

I think you answered your own question! I just looked at the lineup for the past 3 years and there's no "big name EDM" artists I see there. If he's playing arenas, why the hell would he play TI? Come on Cara...

No, it's more like why would you even mention "Deadmau5" for TI and the fact that you would even bring that name up is astounding. Please tell everyone who you think as a "big name EDM" that TI has booked in the past. When did Deadmau5 play at TI?

When Girl Talk was booked as the Saturday headliner, he was a pretty big deal EDM act at the time. Justice and Empire of the Sun are also EDM in a sense but are not Big Name DJs. Also, Deadmau5 did subheadline in 2010 so it is a reasonable thought.

I guess Spooks has a definition of "big name EDM artist" that differs from mine. I only brought up deadmau5 because he played TI in 2010, and the fest has a history of EDM acts in recent years that push ticket sales and appease the younger crowd -- Disclosure, Porter Robinson, Girl Talk, Empire of the Sun, Chromeo, Major Lazer are all big, recognizable crowd friendly EDM acts in my book. I just don't think Massive Attack would headline without an act in that vein, and could see a bigger name topping the bill with them subbing.

Although they didn't headline, just last year Major Lazer and Disclosure are "big name EDM" that Treasure Island booked. Seeing how eclectic Saturday vs. Sunday has become, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw more DJs being booked.

Did anyone ever consider Frank Ocean a possibility...? With a new album soon and random appearances at Bonnaroo and Pemberton... He'd make a nice Saturday headliner... Will I get bashed for this lol

I feel like when it comes to message boards discussing music, you will get bashed for anything. On a positive note, franky ocean would be SO nice to see at Treasure Island, but I could see it being a Sunday thing if that were to ever happen.

Why would he be on Sunday? Rap artists always seem to be booked on Saturdays at TI. Also, I think he would definitely fit in on the lineup. Good call.

Not going to bother looking up the tour dates but Zedd or Dillion Francis seems like EDM acts that would fit the bill. Still think Massive Attack headlines though.

it was a perfectly reasonable suggestion. it's more astounding that you would come in here and argue with people that know more about the festival than you do.

I wouldn't think so. It would be great to see Basement Jaxx live again, but like Shaker is saying, its probably not likely since they wouldn't bring the kids.

Im sure he also thinks the island is probably in the pacific, because he has no concept of geography at all.

Yea, my definition of "big name EDM" artists are the names I see on Ultra/EDC lineups. I consider Chromeo, Major Lazer and whoever you mentioned "smaller EDM" acts....Isn't Deadmau5 bigger now than 4 years ago? It wouldn't make sense to book Deadmau5 who can move 20,000+ tickets by himself. But you can keep dreaming that he'll magically be on the lineup

Right, because TI books "EDM artists" that plays arenas! And weren't you the one that mentioned about DJ Shadow/Cut Chemist a page back? Take a look at those tour dates and tell me why they would come back from playing Canada a week later...

deadmau5 was a reasonable suggestion based on precedent.

similarly there is a precedent of dj shadow and cut chemist playing treasure island, and there is a conspicuous lack of SF date. regarding "coming back" from Canada they are both based in california, one of them in the bay area, so they are coming back here regardless.

    now fuck off.

I'm pretty sure that DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist live in the San Francisco area so they wouldn't need to go anywhere from Canada except home. The fact that they are skipping SF on this tour probably means something, either a TI performance or some other specially hyped show.

And I don't think any of us are dreaming for the Fiver to be headlining TI. We are just throwing out logical Saturday EDM acts that would be a big enough draw to headline TI. Deadmau5 subheadlined 4 years ago so moving up to the headlining slot would seem reasonable.

Since when is Frank Ocean a rap artist? I think he could go either day, though, and would fit.
