Went to this last year. Really fun time and dirt cheap. I never went a full day and only went to see NIN, The Cure, Desaparecidos, and Pearl Jam and completely got my money's worth just by seeing those sets. Definitely recommend.

edit: tickets on sale now for $130 with the promo code VOODOO.

This lineup would be completely horrible if Foo Fighters weren't picking up the slack.

OutKast - they won't care by November
    Arctic Monkeys - boring
Skrillex - nothing needs to be said

    The undercard is embarrassing.

10/19 Erasure, 10/22 Strand of Oaks, 10/31 Pitchfork Festival Paris, 11/7 Rufus Wainwright, 11/7-11/9 FFF Fest, 11/12 Tedeschi Trucks Band, 11/16 Heart, 11/19 Chrissie Hynde, 11/23 Caribou, 12/4 Melissa Etheridge, 12/14 Fleetwood Mac, 12/19 The Black Keys + St. Vincent, 1/30 White Arrows, 3/1 Fleetwood Mac, 4/17-4/19 Coachella W2

Arctic Monkeys are boring now? Their Coachella set a few years ago was one of the fastest pace shows I've seen, and hella good. Some of their newer material is quite a bit slower than their frantic older songs, but I would hardly call it boring. And it's freakin' popular.

Outkast will care about their only show in N'awlins. Period.

The undercard is never deep, although it's always varied. Getting the Melvins and DFA 1979 were big. And Gogol Bordello are a fun act on a holiday weekend.

Yup, boring. They were boring opening for The Black Keys in 2012, and they were boring at Free Press last year. Fast paced songs doesn't make the music interesting.

With the ridiculous number of shows on your radar, it seems queer to have to let you in on the fact that appreciation of music is subjective - and you're on the losing end of this one. The real world doesn't find Arctic Monkeys boring, and they haven't been boring when I've seen them at all - although the slower pace of the new album at ACL last year was less intense than the fast-paced Coachella set. I'm sure plenty of mofos on this board saw them at Coachella with me and found them anything but boring. But it is subjective.

Rise Against announced their tour dates today with a few weeks between their last show and Voodoo - and no other shows in the Texas side of the Panhandle. So maybe they'll add some shows in the coming months, or maybe this is the only shot at seeing them in driving distance from Dallas/Houston/Austin/etc. With any luck their new album justifies seeing them, I enjoyed them quite a lot at L.A. Rising a few summers ago.

Anyhow.. even if you find the lineup boring, N'awlins is NOT. And that should go without saying!

I don't care who or who doesn't appreciate Arctic Monkeys. I'm allowed to have an opinion about them and I stated it. I never found anything about their music that stood out or seemed unique in any way. It all sort of seemed to run together. If you find something about it interesting, by all means, enjoy.

TomServo, stop being such a fucking salesman. You like the festival. Great. Also, Arctic Monkeys ARE boring.

I like all festivals that actually try to put something cool together... Voodoo does that. Some festivals (like that piece of shit the Sunset Strip MF, which finally has a decent lineup this year... sorta) are just cash grabs. Voodoo is cheap as fuck and tries to cobble together a lineup that will interest the common folk and the festival nerds. I like that.

I'd be bummed if Voodoo went away, and I always get the sense it's one year from extinction. With Outkast and Foos we're probably safe this year... but I like to get people interested in a festival I enjoy. I also sell the hell out of Lolla for no real reason other than I loves it.

For the record, though, I hate the new footprint of the stages in City Park. Way too small, I enjoyed the more sprawling layout in previous years. It's like a postage stamp comparatively now, and with little in the way of shade and such.

I fucking love DFA 1979. Totally stoked about this thing.

I'm cold on much of this particular lineup, but I'm liking this trend of giving non-headliners sets that are 60-75 minutes long.

Coachella is 50 minutes if you aren't a top liner. Sahara isn't much better.

useful information for anyone on the coachella message board who's never looked at a coachella schedule.

Pretty much everyone does hour sets for most bands.. just not Coachella. ACL and Lolla are one hour sets for anybody after the early afternoon. I don't get Coachella's obsession with short sets. Faith No More playing for 55 minutes a couple of years ago angered me. I get it if you're a band who only has 45 minutes of material... but nobody is complaining about getting 15 minutes more of a quality act with a long history!

Voodoo. ACL. Lolla. Outside Lands. Bonnaroo. Sasquatch. I could go on.... pretty much everyone. If it's past 3pm, you're getting hour sets for just about everybody just about everywhere.

Just not Coachella. Coachella loves :50 sets for everyone short of subheadliners. So enjoy getting 2-3 less songs every set for no good reason.

Didn't Lolla give both the The Cars and Devo only 45-50 minutes?

The printed schedule was 60 minutes but reality was shorter. They also gave The Strokes 90 minutes when I doubt they've ever done a show that long.

Quickly searching full Lolla Chicago sets on youtube I came up with these acts with sets in the 40-50 minute range:
    chvrches/1975/Interpol(twice)/arctic monkeys 2011/london grammar/tame impala/gaslight anthem.

Devo were late and The Cars ended early. It was their choice not to play 60 minutes.

They always have an hour on the four main stages unless you're a morning act at Lolla and ACL. That doesn't mean the artists play for an hour, but the stages alternate 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-5... until the big headliners play, and they play for however long they want to play. The Ting Tings only had 40 minutes worth of material to play (even with an extended dance remix) and they still had an hour... they just didn't use it all. They structure the acts so that one ends and immediately another one begins on the opposing stage on that side of the park, and then they spend the "quiet" hour setting up the next act so they can go on at the hour mark. It's incredibly easy and consistent, and nobody is getting the shaft for set times.
