Response from Poetic Kinetics on Facebook

Me: Got a new Snail Themed Art Piece this year?

Poetic Kinetics: There may be some actual snails hiding in the polo field grass, but Poetic Kinetics new piece will be aiming for the stars...

Thanks for this Creep! I was going to look for the artists myself but figured someone already had...forum search to the rescue.

Very excited to see some returning groups/artists. 2013 was one of the best years for the art IMO. Can't wait to see what they come up with. 12 more days!

So...this art installation alone is more expensive than all but a handful of the acts? Is that normal? Sounds amazing.

With the map out, I decided to see if I could pair artists here with the icons on the map. I didn't get very far.

Obviously Robert Bose is the balloons, and Philip K Smith III's piece consists of the three light pillars in the middle of the map. I believe there was a confirmation that the astronaut is Poetic Kinetic's piece, and that it will move around. Are those trees by the Gobi and Mojave Charles Gadeken's? Does anyone have any ideas?

Yep, those trees are Charles Gadeken, and from the looks of it, the Bird by the Main Stage is Christian Ristow. Also, the structure just North of the Yuma looks like it could be the Shrine.

can you all please document the art pieces really well as you experience them? I'll be missing out this year and its probably the worst decision I've made in the past 8 years. All the art looks incredible and it makes me sad that I won't experience it.

I finally saw Smart Bird on Sunday flying out behind Sahara making circles near his friend Astro. There was also a companion drone. The bird was pretty amazing, fairly lifelike flight.

Did anyone happen to talk to whoever was piloting/minding it? I kinda wanted to break away from my friends to track the person down and talk to him/her but didn't.

i loved watching the interviews on the artists on the webcast. While the one on the snail was a bit repetitive, at least I feel very informed about all the art! Looks like it would be a lot of fun to interact with some of those pieces. I heart the art!

Yes, we tracked the guys down-FESTO, an industrial motion control, pneumatics and tool company, based in Stuttgart Germany.
They did a remarkable dragonfly (youtube) last year. They were 2 very friendly guys, stoked to be at Coachella!

I saw the Smart Bird on Sunday, on my way from Classixx in the Mojave to The 1975 on the Outdoor. It was actually pretty fucking trippy, but I don't know why the festival Map made it look like it would be by the Main Stage...

Also, this year's art might have been my favorite since I started going in 2007. The Spaceman was way cooler than the Snail.

    The smart bird was awesome!

While the astronaut was impressive, it wasn't as cool as the snail.

Loved the reflection field and the rock candy lokking plur tree things between gobi and mojave, as well as the robot and the PLUR Pretzel.

And as much as I was glad to not have the sound bleed from the do lab, I did think it left a gap in the landscape of the main fest area.

The light tunnel thing looked cool, but I was never able to get into it at night when it was all lit up

Did they explain how they controlled/flew it? Or is it really a smart bird that can fly on its own?
