It's their main stage but not nearly as big as Coachella's. Slightly larger than the size of the Outdoor but the area is the biggest of the 3 stages. Yellow stage is in a small tent that gets way too packed every single year.

    December 31 - Matthew Dear/The Sword/Pallbearer
    January 30 - Behemoth
    February 3 - Zola Jesus
    February 10 - 1349
February 28 - A Place To Bury Strangers

    April 10-12 - Coachella
    April 17 - Clark/Nosaj Thing
May 8-10 - Austin Psych Fest
    May 15-17 - Psycho California

    That's a miserable lineup.

Started a thread on this topic when this thread did not pop out. Oooops, my bad.

I could care less about Eminem.
Belle & Sebastian, Interpol, Spoon, and Avett Bros though...

Interpol are playing Lolla and Gov's Ball. Avett's are doing Lolla, Roo and a few others. I think this is the first announced American festival for Belle And Sebastian.

I was considering flying out to this, since I've gone before in 2011 and I have a bunch of family in the area who are attending...But the line up is not doing much for me unfortunately. Pearl Jam would have been really cool.

Yeah - With the extensive lineup overlap with Coachella and Outside Lands (which is in my backyard) its hard to justify the expense for Pearl Jam and Eminem. We're going to pass

Fun Fun Fun is the better festival anyway. I highly recommend it.

It's easily my least favorite festival. I don't know why I go through with it every year.

You live in Austin so might as well. Even though I'm in DFW it's still not worth going and taking PTO for Friday and Monday in my case. Hell, I won't even take PTO for SXSW during the week haha

I've only been once and was quite surprised how underwhelming it was. (Last year) I expected it to be better than Lolla, but I found it much less so. Coachella has its more unique lineup (couples with higher price, conflicts, and shorter sets), Lolla a much larger footprint but with more Brotasticness... I've never been to Bonnaroo. OSL I loved. Voodoo is great because it's absurdly cheap and N'awlins rocks.

All that said I'll probably be at ACL yearly since I'm in Dallas.

WAIT A SECOND! I just realized Arcade Fire isn't at ACL. Wow. That's a big shocker to me. Hopefully Voodoo...

What are the knocks on this festival? It looks like a beautiful setting for a fest and I like the lineup this year.

i've been to ACL 3 or 4 times. absent a knockout lineup I won't go again. too many damned people. i mean at least at coachella you can get away from them. at ACL they sit in lawn chairs, they stake out their territory.

Gribbz is right, FFF is a better fest.

People who don't go to a lot of shows or festivals, especially those who've never experienced a world class fest like Coachella, will have a fine time at ACL. It's basically just a bunch of stages and people in a nice park...and lawn chairs, lots and lots of obnoxious lawn chairs and their owners who sit in them all day long regardless of who's playing as if it's a fucking tailgate party. The fest attracts a lot of casual music fans who only go because it's something to and proceed to talk through every set no matter where you stand. There is very little in the way of art, food/drink selection is mediocre, and traversing the crowd is maddening.

I can't imagine traveling for ACL, but I would definitely travel for FFF or SXSW, or really any regular awesome weekend in Austin.

    10/02 Beck - Stubb's
10/03 The Preatures - Holy Mountain
    10/11 J Roddy Walston - Stubb's
11/7,8,9 Fun Fun Fun - Auditorium Shores
11/17 Blonde Redhead - The Mohawk
11/23 Caribou, Jessy Lanza - The Mohawk
11/26 FKA Twigs - The Parish

This is what I've been trying to tell my old Coachella camping group. They're pretty set on ACL though for whatever reason.

Tons of stuff I would enjoy from mid to late afternoon, at least in my opinion. I may go one full weekend and just the Friday and Sunday the next weekends, Saturday looks pitiful.

Maybe it's because I live here but my biggest issue is it being right in the middle of the city. It's a bitch to find parking for this thing since everyone in a 3 mile radius puts up tow-away signs.

The chairs and flags have got to go at ACL. Honestly, if I didn't live an hour away from Austin, I would never go to it, but it give me a decent chance to see bands I don't see in San Antonio. As for parking, I don't think it's an issue, they do have free shuttles to and from the event, you just have to find parking downtown which isn't too much of a hassle if you go before 2 PM.

well, I'm in for another year even with the lackluster lineup. if so many of my friends weren't already going, I wouldn't have even considered traveling for this fest with that lineup. Hopefully this time day 3 doesn't get canceled!!

is the weekend 1 crowd any better than the weekend 2 crowd? weekend 2 seemed to have a pretty boring crowd.

What I didn't like about it was kind of how boring and homogenized it all was. None of the artsy-ness of Coachella, it wasn't downtown, so you lose some of the grandeur of Lollapalooza, doesn't have the nature (trees and stuff) that you have with Lolla and Outside Lands.... just kind flat and dull. The layout is smaller than Lolla as well, which makes for easier walking to sets but less interesting overall as an experience. Closer to Coachella size footprint than Lollapalooza size.

Some people over on the ACL rumors board found Julian Casablancas and Albert Hammond jr hidden away on the artist list. What could this mean? Are the Strokes going to be there and they just haven't announced it yet??
