    Default Decibel Festival 2014

We'd been wondering when there would be news about pre-sales....

On Tuesday March 4th at 11PM PST, we'll be announcing the dates for the 11th annual Decibel Festival. In addition, discounted passes will go on-sale at this time.

Despite that announcement, tickets went on sale early this morning:

    Also:

The first of two artist line-up announcements will occur on May 2nd. Until then, stay tuned as we reveal venues and partnerships that will help define this year's Decibel Festival experience; as well as exclusive mixes, downloads, videos, and news features highlighting more than a decade of Decibel events.

$180 after fees. Purchased but I wonder what changes are going to be made, if any, after the survey they sent out.

I wondered that too. And the tickets started out at $160 with fees, I wonder if that means they sold a fair amount today.

Good start. Kind of a lot of the same stuff as past years, but it's still stuff I'd like to see again. No brainer this year since I'll be living in the Seattle area.

I hope they bring back Melrose Market for the Modern Love showcase.

Really trying to swing this festival this year... Love the lineup every year. I saw that Tier 1 and 2 are sold out for tickets? Does the fest usually sell out?

They haven't sold out of festival passes but individual showcases can sell out which also excludes pass holders as well if they do not arrive early.

So pumped for this year considering what a blast last year was. I don't know where to start listening for Richie Hawtin, embarrassing I know!

Also who should I not miss, considering I've only seen Baths & SMD.

    That's good to hear.

Andy, for someone like Richie Hawtin, who will be doing a DJ set, it mostly just makes sense to listen to his most recent sets so you can get an idea of what is in his record bags these days.

From the first wave, I'm looking forward to:

    Andy Stott
    Christopher Willits
    Demdike Stare
    FaltyDL
    John Roberts
    Kode9
    Lindstrom
    Marc Kinchen (MK)
    Millie & Andrea
    RRose
    Rival Consoles
    Shadow Child
    Son Lux
    Vatican Shadow

I'm unfamiliar with a few acts listed, though, so recs from all are appreciated.

He must think everyone is nuts but after last year quiet drops, it shouldn't be a surprise

I'm interested to see how Baths new album is - could rise to a must see. As for who not to miss in the first release really depends on what you like. Those I haven't seen that I'm excited for are Efdemin, Vatican Shadow, Demdike Stare (missed them couple years ago), Millie & Andrea, John Roberts, ATOM™ GND∞, LindstrÝm, Kode 9, Rival Consoles (and anyone from Erased Tapes really). Check out RRose and Steffi as well.

    edit: what guedita said

Yea, for Phase 1, my list is pretty much guedita's, plus Groundislava, The Sight Below, and the Deru 1979 project. Need to listen to Greg Gives Peter Space (I like some of the other artists on Erased Tapes)

I'm still waiting for db to bring The Haxan Cloak back to make up for last year. I agree w Heidi that there are a large amount of repeats, not just from previous db fests but over this last year. I'm also on the bring back Melrose Market team (but with better sound). Most of my responses for the survey dealt with sound issues or better venues. Overall I'm very pleased with the initial announcement and excited to see the 2nd half (60 more names to come). I am also eager to see which venues will be used. Sean said that they will be having more happening in downtown this year and the opening event will be held at EMP.

I was hoping Millie & Andrea would make it. I have a ton of research to do. I'm also stoked to see Rrose will be back. His live set last year at ETG was fucking dynamite. FaltyDL live is a beast too! I'm assuming The Sight Below will be an Optical but when I saw him open for VFTL I was pleasantly surprised with how hard and danceable his set was. I'd like to hear him do something like that again. In regards to Richie Hawtin, I'm really hoping he brings a unique dj set and not something similar to what I've heard the last couple times I caught him or listened to a recording (sonar 2012, Bestival 2013, some recordings). My first thought when he was announced and a F.U.S.E track was played was that maybe he will play something similar to his Beyond set which was much more Plastikman sound than big room enter sound. He was finishing up w his Plastikman shows at the time of Beyond and now he seems to be gearing up for Plastikman 2.0. I'm sure he was too expensive for a live set and I'm not sure where they'd stick his visual setup (paramount or wamu? lol wamu would suck). Sean also mentioned that it would be an "A/V dj set" shrug.

It's good to see Horton's head (or someone on his team) is in the right place. Millie and Andrea makes sense as they are returning artists and dB seems to do that a lot. It's a great "get."
I gotta think Hawtin will be all-ages thus at one of the Showboxes. Paramount would be rad also as the sound there would be stellar.
I would only see Kode9 if there was some chance of unreleased Burial being played. I am excited for the Opticals...I don't think I've left one feeling displeased yet.
My pipe-dream wish list could go on and on but its a great start. I also need to re-address Vatican Shadow's output as it seems right up my alley.

The Haxan Cloak is touring the US in summer, so not likely for dB. Bummer.

Edit: Actually I guess my comment isn't really valid since he's back and forth between the US and Europe this summer.

Yeah I've been all kinds of irritated by the amount of artists that are hitting the west coast with no Seattle date. The Haxan Cloak is one of them!
