And there was another post stating that it only got its US release recently. So people can decide on what rules they want to apply to their own lists.

Also I don't understand why more people don't have The Men on their lists.. that's like my album of the year so far.

I Like it a ton, but for me it's a bit of a drop off from their previous two releases, and I think that's a big part of the reason it's not showing up on more lists - people comparing it to the bands prior releases rather than what it's up against in the 2014 field. Still, it'll be top ten for me on my next update once i decide whether the new Swans is knocking Sun Kil Moon out of first place or coming in at second.

    Pearly Gates is phenomenal though.

For me, 2014 has been the weakest year for new music in a while. The only albums I think are great are Ought's More Than Any Other Day, and Cherry Glazzer's Haxel Princess, (which is funny because I don't generally dig Burger bands, most of them are pretty boring/generic garage rock in my opinion). But yeah, those two have been in constant rotation and are the most refreshing albums to come out this year. I like Liars', Mac Demarco's, and Swans' new ones as well, but they're just good in my opinion, nothing too great. I fucking love Swans, but am I the only one that thinks their songs drag out a little too long sometimes?

And regarding Benji, I absolutely love "Carissa" and it's one of my favorite songs of 2014, but I don't dig the rest of the album too much.

    9/23 Modest Mouse @ Pappy & Harriet's
10/7 Ought @ Eagle Rock Center For The Arts
10/25 Beach Goth @ The Observatory

Have you listened to the new records from Cloud Nothings and Chad VanGaalen? They are 2 of my favourite records of the year so far and I highly recommend giving 'em a spin. I think both of them would be right up your alley.

I agree with you Feels that 2014 isn't a year for upholding albums. I do think the Liars - Mess is a top of the year album for me yet Swans's To be Kind is ok and songs do tend to stay over welcomed . I hope to update my list when I come across albums that I think are really great.

I am not sure what you meant to use there, but "upholding" doesn't mean anything the way you used it.

Also, I think this has been a great year for music. There are a ton of albums I already love. I am moving slower than usual because I have been addicted to podcasts, but I certainly have about 40 albums I really like.

Couldn't disagree more - mostly because I felt 2013 was the worst year in over a decade...this one, with Sun Kill Moon, Swans, War On Drugs, Future Islands, Neneh Cherry, Silver Mt. Zion, Wild Beasts has been much more in my wheelhouse. Maybe because I'm an old classic rock fan and 2014, even in out there releases like To Be Kind, has had a strong classic rock flavor to it.

I was trying to use upholding in place of too much verbiage for that I'll remember a certain album at the end of year and will be a constant in my top albums of the year list. Thanks for pointing that out, Drinkey.
