As Guedita said earlier, Bonnaroo is massive compared to Coachella. We got their late Thursday night and ended up a little over a mile from the entrance. The humidity is also ridiculous compared to Coachella's dry heat. It might've just been the year I went (2011) but the weather was unbearable and there was dust everywhere. The advantage Bonnaroo has is that there is no real curfew. Several tents will go until sunrise which is pretty cool and a lot of the bands get longer sets than they would get at Coachella. Another thing to consider is that like at the main stage at Sasquatch, the very front sections of the stages don't allow you to just walk up. They have a capacity limit and there is a barrier and you usually have to wait in line to get in later in the day. I'm not sure if getting close is important to you but you should know that if you want to get up front for a headliner you usually need to go earlier than usual to get in. As far as atmosphere goes there's annoying people at both festivals you just need to decide if Sahara people are more annoying than hippies to you.

edit: here's an aerial photo of Bonnaroo and the camp grounds to give you an idea of the size.

You have to pay to shower at Bonnaroo.

I'd have to say even last years coachella line up was better than this years Roo. Elton is certainly a legend and can still jam but not too interesting these days, and Kayne is so full of shit...yes he just had a major successful tour but all that says is that there are quite a few dumb fucks out there that don't know talent. I'm tired of this bullshit. Roo's lineup isn't that good this year plain and simple

I went the same year as Cara and had pretty much the same experience. If you go, I would recommend VIP since it is much closer and I think you get free showers. I honestly didn't think a 45 min trek to the festival was going to be as bad as it was, but I was waaaay wrong. The dust is awful. Crowd kinda sucks, but last year's Coachella crowd was worse for me personally. The conflicts are usually horrendous, and make seeing everything you want difficult. The main stage area is also huge and poorly lit making it impossible to navigate at night. The food and beer were exceptional at the festival. I ended up spending a lot of time at the brooers tent because it was hot and there were so many great beers. I didn't go in the movie tent, but it always has some neat things going on. The comedy tent was fun, but don't get stuck waiting in one of the huge lines. That's another thing, people line up everywhere for no fucking reason other than not paying attention or asking what the hell is going on. The festival is so massive and spread apart that it is hard to compare to the convenience of Coachella, but it is a decent festival. I have considered going back the past couple years, but the memories of dust clouds, crab grass, and manure everywhere always seem to dissuade me.

They both have killer audio systems but neither hire engineers worth a fuck to run them is the problem. This occurs way to often on the smaller stages not so much the main.

Also both fests have established their brand enough where the bottom line is much more important than exclusive bookings. I know many stagehands that will not work Bonnaroo because of the low pay and conditions. If you pay the people that make it happen a half ass amount theyre gonna work half assed.

This is something that usually makes roo interesting. They get a ton of goofy novelty ideas like this. Not that this is going to happen, but it should

Coachella tickets are about 100$ more. Bonnaroo should charge a little more and improve a lot of the shit that everyone and myself bitch about there.

    Roboto, Coachella has better sound.

Ice Cube, Die Antwoord, Dr. Dog, Danny Brown, and Hannibal Buress (highly unlikely anyway) would have been nice, but what ya gonna do. Kanye West would have been cool to see again, would have preferred him over Muse. I doubt they'd do two rap headliners though, so I'm happy with who they chose.
