Thread: Question about The Knife's live show.

  1. #1

Default Question about The Knife's live show.

From everything I've read the Shaking The Habitual Tour has been very unconventional. Is the duo actually there to perform? Or is it just that dance troupe dancing along to a CD?

when they announced the US tour dates, they said that it's going to be different. here is their statement:

"In 2013 we played at clubs and festivals in European cities. Now it’s 2014 and we’re about to tour North America. With care and attention, we gathered our impressions and got back together to rework the show. This is a continuation. Some songs are the same, some songs are new. Moves are added and changed. Some instruments are electrified and more voices are heard. Things glow and along the way we have elevated ourselves.
This time, we, The Knife, are a group of people with diverse approaches to dance, moves and music. Some of us are musicians, some of us are vocalists, some of us are choreographers, some of us are experienced performers and some of us are not. We are very proud to announce that Shannon Funchess from the electronic punk duo Light Asylum (New York) is joining the show. Already familiar with the project as she sings on the record, she is now with us on stage."

hopefully it's even better. can't freaking wait.

To add to that and to answer the original question, my understanding is they do "perform," - certainly not in the traditional sense of a band performing songs with instruments and singing live, but I think it is a much deeper experience than simply a "dance troupe dancing along to a CD"

There's a list of songs that they perform live and others that they dance to. Honestly, it's not the most impressive setlist, even if it was performed live. However, they are apparently retooling the tour so there might be more live tracks and maybe a different setlist at Coachella. We'll have to wait and see.

Ask yourself one question: "Do I want to dance to Silent Shout at Coachella?" If yes, you should go to The Knife's set. If the answer is anything other than yes, hang yourself.

I saw this show with a group of friends at Bestival. We were probably evenly split between liking it and not liking it at all. I was part of the latter. I was bored at times and easily distracted by the large number of annoying assholes around me. I am glad I saw it to judge for myself even though I had a fairly good idea that I would not be too impressed. I ate some acid and hoped for the best. It was an interesting trip but I was happy when it was over and I was able to go dance to Ben UFO.

I would love to dance to Silent Shout at Coachella. But if Karin and Olof aren't actually there, doesn't make sense to me.

    Whiskey Sour

    2 oz blended whiskey
    Juice of 1/2 lemon
    1/2 tsp powdered sugar
    1 cherry
    1/2 slice lemon

Shake blended whiskey, juice of lemon, and powdered sugar with ice and strain into a whiskey sour glass. Decorate with the half-slice of lemon, top with the cherry, and serve.

I am reserving judgement til I see it in person. I am guessing I won't like as much as I would like to. It is what it is. They are performing and by that I mean dancing around in weird outfits to a mostly pre recorded set with some visual effects. You know like the Silent Shout tour

Be there to listen to the Knifees desperately trying to explain to bored stupefied kids how "deep" the "performance" is despite not being "traditional."
