Default They Used to be GREAT: Discography CPR.

I have been tinkering with the idea of this for a few days after relistening to The Strokes Comedown Machine. Let's pick a band who has had undoubtedly had their share of great albums then released a few albums that left fans scratching their heads. Then make a 12 track or an album worth of songs/80 minutes worth from the less desirable albums to help fans catch up without all what we concur as a collective filter. I do not want one person to pick everything so two or three songs max per a band and we can discuss what should and should not be on this as well what flows better for an collective "catch up album".Also another rule no embedding please just put a link to your youtube links.

So first up The Strokes since they inspired this thread.I would say arguably that most people consider First Impressions of Earth,Angles,Comedown Machine are their undesirables.

I think "50/50 "has a early The Stroke sound yet wouldn't really fit on This is It or Room of Fire,no synths, played fast, and somewhat angry.

As well "Under Cover of Darkness" sounds like it belongs on Room of Fire

I personally think Comedown Machine is The Strokes weakest album. I'm a big fan of Angles, and First Impressions was fantastic at the time but still holds up. Anyone care to help me understand the love for Comedown Machine?

Also, I get what you're trying to do with this thread. Not a bad idea.

I feel like Juicebox is one of the top 5 songs they have ever written. The bass lines have never been matched or more powerful in any other song and the energy is outstanding.

All the Time would fit perfectly on Room on Fire and one of those songs that make Comedown Machine better than Angles. From the same album I'm huge fan of Chances too though the music is kinda boring Julian kills it on vocals

Dude! The Strokes are the most intense and just all around fucking awesome live band ever! They are my favorite, with out a doubt. The first 3 tracks off of First Impressions are fantastic . "You Only Live Once" has great lyrics and is a classic, not to mention it was YOLO before Drake, "Juicebox" is just as theklien described and "Heart In A Cage" Is the ultimate Air Gutair song. I'll stand by these guys forever because they hold it down live. They're right up there with the Stooges for me. Anyways, I'll add three amazing tracks from every album after other peps chim in.

There was this guy back on the old board who started a thread "What band will be the next Beatles?" and his nomination for most likely was the Strokes.

I've got both Angles and Comedown Machine, but the band's own seeming lack of enthusiasm about either has made it hard for me to dig in too deeply. But "You Only Live Once" (YOLO?!?!?) off First Impressions of Earth - their first album I wasn't totally into - is one of my favorite Strokes songs. It's got a vibe like their earlier stuff.

I actually like Angles a fair bit and thought the material translated really well live at their Coachella 2011 set. First Impressions of Earth and Comedown Machine are abysmal though. And I do agree with Crispin. Even The Strokes seem disinterested in The Strokes at this point, which might explain their sharp downward trajectory.

I have always thought YOLO was a really great song so right now it looks like we need six more.

Maybe I'm the only one but I always thought Vision of Division off First Impressions of Earth was one of their strongest songs. Shame that I'll probably never see it live at this rate.
