Thread: FYF 2014

The place I was supposed to stay at for the weekend fell through, so I'm now in an unfortunate position where I need to find a last minute place to stay. Would anyone know of any decent motels with decent prices in the area that may still have open rooms? I've googled a few places and it doesn't seem likely, but I figured I'd give this a shot.

I would strongly recommend parking at 7th and Figueroa for about 8-10 bucks and taking the Metro Expo Line to the Vermont stop, as the entrance to the venue is off of Vermont.
I have been to concerts. I will go to concerts in the future.

Not to get spammy and all, but Viva Pops is my niece's business, and she makes the most delicious, gourmet organic popsicles/paletas anywhere. For reals. And she is one of the most darling people to grace the planet. So everyone, please have a Viva Pop while you're there. So yummy, cool and refreshing!

Stay somewhere near the expo line toward Culver City, or the Red line in Hollywood. There should be plenty of availability.

Thanks for the rec, HtDI will eat a VIVA POP. Also I had really good quesadillas from STREET FOOD truck last year, though it still remains the dumbest food truck name I've ever heard.

We ate at the Street Food truck last year, too, ahahaha. Really good tacos.

Southern Fried Vegan is really fucking good, whether you are vegan or not. I highly recommend their "fried chicken" sliders. The "beef" isn't as good. Cajun tots are great too.

I wonder which food truck(s) will be banished to VIP? I don't want to get my heart set on something I can't have.

My suggestion would be to stick around the arena for most of John Talabot. Flying Lotus is great, but he's playing the stage that is farthest away from the main stage, so you wouldn't be able to catch more than a few minutes of him. I'm unfamiliar with Blood Brothers.

I was just gonna wing parking in that area, so THANK YOU. Now, I have an actual destination.

I'll happily get a VIVA POP as well. I'm sure I'll have a popsicle/ice cream craving, being outside and all.

That boiler room set isnt going to be very accurate. That was for a early day time pool party during WMF where people were hung over from partying all night. His FYF timeslot is at night and indoors so he will play more house and techno but probably nothing too crazy.

This is his set from Melt festival a month ago which is a lot more techno focused but that is catered to that festivals crowd. Would be a welcome surprise if his set sounds more like this.

    http://soundcloud.com/john-talabot/j...dj-set-melt-14

Edit: doesn't look likely as he states in the soundcloud description this was very unlike him to play so much techno in his set.

If you like noise, The Blood Brothers are it. If you want crazy tripped out visuals with bad ass beats, Flying Lotus is your ticket.

The lobster truck with the lobster skewers sounds really fucking good, so probably that, because we non-rich people can't have nice things.

I've had lobster rolls in Maine, and Cousins' does a roll every bit as good as the ones you get over there.

    It's expensive, though. Like $18?

When they're not in a festival, Cousins rolls are like $14. That's how much they cost at every stand in Boston too, though.

$18 is ridiculously expensive, but it is the west coast. They are so good that I will probably grab one over the weekend, though.

This is my problem with the last time I saw John Talabot (DJ set a couple years ago) - went expecting more of his stuff, got none. Love him on record, skipping him at FYF (all-in for Blood Brothers loudness).

This has a pretty cannibalistic vibe coming from Zoidberg.
