I'm fine with the FYF lineup as it is and am really looking forward to it. But yeah, I'd rather they replace Death Grips with someone I like and let me make my own decisions about my charitable donations.
I find myself surprisingly agreeing with Supre. Even though it's the norm, it's always a douche move when festivals don't replace dropouts (assuming there's enough time to book someone new). That FYF promised to do so only makes this more irritating.
It's awesome that FYF's putting the leftover funds to a good cause. But we gave them those leftover funds for a band. Unless we all told them to use the money differently, they should have felt a commitment to use the cash as they promised to when we paid for our tickets.
I was a bit disappointed at first, but if that extra void means a longer time for a band like Slowdive or Interpol (unfortunately, we don't know what bands were planned for Death Grips' stage), I'll get over it. Money to charity is still more than Coachella ever did with the money for Cat Power, Klaxons, Lou Reed, etc.

they should have used that money to give everyone a free churro.
Regardless, we are 23 days away and I couldn't be more excited for this weekend to come.
But did they actually promise a replacement, or did they say they would just try to find one?
Also how much did Death Grips cost and how much of that are they really been donating to these charities and not to Shawn ' s cocaine and morning after pill supplies.
I still think they should have used it to give out free churros.
I rather have extended time slots for the other bands and not some random replacement. When Baroness and Wild Flag dropped off two years ago, FYF's replacements (I forgot who) where nowhere near as rocking. Don't replace rock bands with synth-pop.
They should have donated the money and used the extra time to recreate the Death Grips no-show extravaganza, featuring cannons that shoot out churros from the stage. Boom, everyones happy.

Always great to come to the Coachella message board to be reminded of the things that are considered problems these days.
To me, it just means that people shouldn't be super upset about the fact that FYF "promised" anything. Thanks for pointing out that they did exactly what i said they did.

But you dont deny the fact their statement actually had the intention of replacing death grips, right? If they did not INTEND to book another act, why go out of the way and ask? Thats the part youre missing out on. You just think making such open ended statements, provides a get out of jail free card for whatever that ends up being decided upon. ''Well, we didnt really INTEND to do anything, so why are you so upset'' is the attitude everyone is supposed to maintain? If this was an act that was one line higher, you would be asking for more answers. But since its somebody that's for all intents and purposes ''marginal'' given their reputation, you just shrug your shoulders, yes?
churros. fuck yeah.

Maybe they tried to find a replacement but couldn't find anyone they deemed worthwhile? Who gives a fuck? Longer set times, even if only by a few minutes, is a much better option than throwing in someone like Touche Amore or Title Fight (*again*) just to make people feel like they're getting their money's worth.
