If you guys are going to list your must sees, I mean, it's probably helpful if you provide at least some sort of minimal explanation as to the genre/style and why you are excited about that particular artist.

    11/28: Dixon @ TBA
12/1: Angel Olsen, Kevin Morby @ GAMH
12/6: Dream Police @ Brick and Mortar
    12/12: Ancient Methods @ Mercer
12/13: RRose, Carlos Souffrant @ TBA
12/17: Sleepy Sun @ Brick and Mortar

I'm excited for Slowdive. They are a shoegaze band from the very late 80's and early 90's. they are dreamy. I am also excited for Darkside as well. They play music that people would listen to if they were attempting the act of baby making in space.

My bad. To add to my previous post, Grimes is a solo experimental synthpop act. She handles most of the production aspects in studio and in a live setting by herself. Her selection of beats and weird sci-fi sounds mixed with her incrediblly high pitched vocals is the best part of what she does. I would describe her live show as an art performance (dancers, etc) mixed with a DJ set, since she improvises a lot of the loops and synth right on the spot. I'm excited to see her again considering the level of energy that she brought at her Coachella set last year.

I swear if we get any sound issues like we did with My Bloody Valentine for Slowdive or Blood Orange. I'm going reconsider going to another FYF and checking out First City next year if the line up is decent. I also do realize it was MBV playing and that was more prone to happen.

They were so bad Kevin Shield stopped the show to complain and hope they could fix it.

Cara and I didn't go to Movement because we went to Austin Psych Fest. We are going to see Metro Area tonight.

Since you like him, have you heard Chet Faker's cover of No Diggity? I normally hate shit like this because I usually feel it's contrived but for some reason this really worked for me. Listened to it an absurd amount of times last year.

How's Against Me live these days? I haven't seen them since their free show at Off the Record in like 2003 (anyone remember that???) and still haven't listened to the new album but can't wait to sing along to some of their classics.

I've been advocating Connan Mockasin on the message board every now and then for a bit now, but if you guys miss him at fyf you guys are really missing out. His style of music is really unique. In general his sound is psychedelic but theres so many things going on in his songs its hard to pinpoint. I feel like there is a whole wave of bands doing the whole psychedelic throwback kind of thing right now but Connan doesn't simply emulate the past; he digests the past and puts his own spin on it that is completely his. I also think he finds the nice middle ground of mixing the avant-garde and with pop music
His new album is completely different from his first. I would suggest checking out his first album(Forever Dolphin Love) unless you're a prince fan. If you like prince definitely check out his latest album(Caramel) first. Its like what prince would sound like if he had a more psychedelic odball edge to him. Either way though, none of Conan's recorded albums do his live shows any justice. I found Caramel really disappointing when i first heard it(and still kinda do) until i saw him perform those songs live. He has this natural charisma to him and he really knows how to work it without seeming like he's trying to hard. And his live band has this quality of sounding really tight but loose and at the same time. Anyway heres two live recordings. One song from each of his albums.

    From Forever Dolphin Love.
First song that really got me into him

Favorite live track from his live album.

    From Caramel
The first song he played at the recent echoplex show. Its mainly instrumental so its probably not best thing to post but there arent really any live recording of his new stuff.

sorry for potentially staring the ominous page with a shit ton of youtube videos.

Their new album is their best since Finding A Former Clarity without a doubt and they are on fire this tour. Their shows have been receiving nothing but great reviews and the show I saw back in March was better than the time I saw them in 2003. Lots of Reinventing Axl Rose material too. Highly recommended you check both them and their new album out.

Yeah, I've been giving the new Against Me a ton of rotation, it's really solid. Good to hear that there is a lot old stuff in the setlist, from what I've seen the sets look fairly heavy on the first three albums. Never seen them before so I'm pretty sure I'll be watching them at FYF.

    9/21 - Arsis @ New Royal Dive
    10/28 - Tycho @ North Park Theatre
10/30 - The Rural Alberta Advantage @ Soda Bar
    11/4 - United Nations @ Los Globos
    11/12 - DFA 1979 @ House Of Blues
11/14 - The Presets @ North Park Theatre
    11/29 - Cake @ Del Mar
