Last year, getbetter and I stayed at Americas Best Value Inn on West 7th street. Cheap and dingy but it was fine for a place to crash at the end of the night and was close to the metro.

I am much more interested in new Sparta, Sleepercar, or any other Jim Ward related project than I am anything Omar or Cedric related.

I did indeed check it out, or else I wouldnt be bashing it. I was a huge MArs Votla fan myself, still am I guess, But it all officially ended after Amputechture. They havent been able to put anything decent post-Amputechture. Total bummer when the original drummer left.

I really don't understand why they are calling themselves Antemasque now. Its the two official members of Mars Volta making music together. Shit, they even have Flea, who played on Deloused.

Thanks Drinkey & guedita! I went ahead and snagged a room at the Westin (starting at $199/night right now) since my husband has a bad hip and he likes that chain. At least this way he'll have energy for Sunday. Now I can sit and wait for the line up

The GF and i stayed at a hostel type deal next to Hotel Cecil for FYF. The rooms were $50 a night which was pretty awesome. Not your typical hsotel where you share rooms. We had our own room/bathroom

If you want walking distance to the Coliseum The Radisson Midtown is nice. However, it will likely be way overpriced as USC move in is that week, so yeah, DTLA is better. The good news is Metro runs the trains late when there are big events, so you shouldn't have to worry about getting back.

It seems like they are doing the festival route. That said, they were super fun during Weekend 2. Still so many songs in their catalog to play, a club date would be amazing.

As much as I love FYF's lineups, it sucks for me that it is the same weekend as the First City Festival. The lineup last year was not great, but I live in Monterey, so commuting by bicycle is a large plus. I still wish FYF was back on Labor Day weekend.

Was hoping so but they make it clear that Pygmalion will be their first show back and that happens after FYF.

As Widdershin said, they are not doing their own shows (except for the arena gig in Minnesota, which likely will be a huge thing with a bunch of guests). They are making a lot more money playing festivals.

FYF seems a bit small-timey for the 'Mats. How does Riot Fest compare in size and prestige to FYF? That said, I hope they get a 1.5-hour slot to really show off their catalog.
I have been to concerts. I will go to concerts in the future.

Are we considering Shaky Knees the big time now?

Looks like a more-renowned field (i.e., top of the bill plays bigger venues) than FYF.

Do you consider The Replacements a "bigger" act than YYY and/or MBV? I don't think it's that much of a stretch for them to headline this year.

Well, I sure do. In the who could sell out what venue context, you're probably right. They may be pricier than those acts, though, if that makes any sense, but I have no evidence to back that up. Maybe it's just my "this is too good to be true" side naysaying this because I would love for this to happen.

"Improvements include a new location near City Hall in downtown L.A., additional entrances (with a separate entrance for VIP and press), better (and cheaper, healthier, more abundant) food options, and water."

Since Made in America will be there the following weekend, it definitely seems feasible. I will cross my fingers for this over the Coliseum. I wonder how accurate that rumor is...

It is not feasible. They were setting their location in place way before the Made In America deal started getting made. Made In America happening in grand Park is a huge giant deal too that is pissing a lot of people off too. having another event a week before by a completely different promotor is not happening.
